Mexican economic activity is expected to maintain annual growth in August 2026, although with moderate monthly progress, according to the Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE) of the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

For the eighth month of the year, the indicator anticipated an increase of just 0.1% monthly , as well as an annual increase of 2.5% .

By activity groups, secondary activities —which include manufacturing, construction, mining and energy generation— would register an annual growth of 2.7%, while tertiary activities , which include trade and various services such as commerce, transport and storage, would advance 2.6 percent.

In its monthly comparison, secondary activities would show an increase of 0.2% in the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE), while tertiary activities would rise 0.1 percent.

Moderation in pace

The August data points to an expansion that maintains a positive pace, but without showing significant acceleration in the short term.

The annual growth contrasts with the monthly advance, a combination that suggests that much of the performance is explained by the comparison with the previous year and not necessarily by a strong expansion between July and August.

For production and logistics chains, the performance of secondary and tertiary activities is relevant due to their connection with manufacturing, trade, transportation, and warehousing. In particular, warehousing and storage are part of the tertiary sector, and their evolution is linked to the movement of goods and the demand for services associated with economic activity.

According to INEGI, the IOAE allows for anticipating the behavior of the IGAE up to five weeks before its official publication. The indicator uses econometric models and various economic and financial series that are updated more frequently.
