Mexico’s economic activity is expected to rebound both monthly and annually in February 2026, driven by growth in services such as trade, transportation, and storage.

The  Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE) , compiled by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , anticipated a slight monthly increase of 0.1% in Mexican economic activity during the period. On an annual basis, the IOAE also registered strong performance, with a rise of 1.2%.

By economic activity groups, an annual increase of 1.9% is expected in the tertiary sector (which includes services such as commerce, transport and storage, communications, education and health), and a decrease of 1.9% in the secondary sector (manufacturing and construction).

The estimates include 95% confidence intervals and correspond to seasonally adjusted figures, Inegi indicated.

On a monthly basis, the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) is projected to grow by 0.1% . Tertiary activities are expected to increase by 0.2%, while secondary activities are projected to remain unchanged by February 2026.

According to KPMG , a consulting firm, Mexico is expected to have a mixed economic outlook , with opportunities in diversifying trade relationships, strengthening strategic logistics projects, and developing key industries such as manufacturing; however, a moderate slowdown with inflationary pressures is anticipated .

This stems from a global economy facing geopolitical risks and trade adjustments that create uncertainty for global growth.

Economic activity last November is believed to have fallen due to a decline in secondary activities, following the setback it also experienced in October 2025

The Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE) , prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , anticipated a 0.2% monthly decline in Mexican economic activity in the penultimate month of 2025. On an annual basis, the IOAE would remain unchanged.

By economic activity groups, an annual decrease of 1.5% is expected in secondary activities (manufacturing and construction), and an increase of 0.8% in tertiary activities, which include services such as trade, transport and storage, communications, education and health.

On a monthly basis, a 0.2% decrease is anticipated in the  Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) . A 0.3% decline is projected for secondary activities and a 0.1% decline for tertiary activities by November of this year.

According to estimates from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) , the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would barely grow 0.4% in 2025 , due to tariff uncertainty, weak domestic consumption and a drop in investment.

In presenting the  Preliminary Overview of the Economies of Latin America and the Caribbean 2025 , the organization also projected that  the Mexican economy could grow 1.3% in 2026 , due to factors such as greater trade certainty, as well as the possible ratification of the  United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA)  and the positive effects of the World Cup on tourism.

The state of Morelos ends 2025 with an economic structure marked by contrasts between urban dynamism and persistent productive shortcomings in its rural regions. With over two million inhabitants and an urbanization rate of nearly 82%, the state operates under intense territorial pressure that concentrates employment, services, and infrastructure in specific areas.

According to the State Development Plan 2025–2030 of the State of Morelos , the state economy has transitioned for decades from agricultural activities to services, commerce and light manufacturing, a change that has been consolidated in recent years and has resulted in uneven growth between regions.

The most recent data from the Ministry of Economy (SE) —corresponding to the first quarter of 2025—shows an economically active population of 888,797 people , with an unemployment rate of 1.05% and an informal employment rate of 66.1% , one of the highest in the country. This composition reveals a large labor market in terms of volume, but with limited formal job creation and a strong dependence on activities with low social protection.

In foreign trade, Morelos registered $49,004 million in imports and $44,446 million in exports during January 2025, according to the SE.

The State Development Plan 2025–2030 of the State of Morelos indicated that in 2023 primary and secondary activities showed declines of 4.9% and 1.7% , respectively, while tertiary activities (commerce, services and transport) advanced 3.9% , consolidating their role as the engine of state growth.

In the productive sphere, the 2024 Agro-Food Infographic reported that Morelos had an agricultural and fishing volume of three million 624 thousand 654 tons , of which 96.9% corresponds to agricultural production , with crops such as sugar cane and red tomato  among the most representative.

Although the volume is significant, the concentration in a few crops and the decline of the primary sector highlight the gap between the more competitive urban dynamism and rural capabilities, where limitations in productivity, infrastructure and diversification persist.

Morelos reaches the end of 2025 with indicators that combine solid commercial activity, an expanding urban market and a high level of informal employment, while productive lags and territorial gaps continue to define the main challenges for the state economy.

In September 2025, the  Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE) , prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) , anticipated an annual decline of 0.6% in the Mexican economy , resulting from a slowdown in secondary activities, such as manufacturing.

“The IOAE provides timely econometric estimates of the evolution of the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE), as well as secondary and tertiary activities,” INEGI explained.

In its monthly measurement, the IOAE would have shown a positive figure, registering an increase of 0.1%  in the ninth month of the year .

By economic activity group , a 3% annual decline is expected  in secondary industries , which include manufacturing and construction.

In  tertiary activities , which include services such as trade,  transportation and storage , communications, education and health, an  annual growth of 0.8% is estimated .

Inegi also anticipated an annual decrease of 0.6% in the IGAE for September .

On a monthly basis, a 0.1% increase was projected in the IGAE , as well as in secondary and tertiary activities for the reference month.

The decline in the country’s economic activity last September shows signs of a contraction in the performance of key sectors such as manufacturing, which has been affected by a drop in external demand amid an aggressive tariff policy.
