A group of financial institutions led by funds managed by Fortress Investment Group , Fidelity Management & Research Company and Invesco Senior Secured Management , will now be the main owners of the company.

These partners contribute significant financial resources , experience in the transportation and logistics industry, and commitment to the future strategy as the leading integrated provider of multimodal transportation and logistics in North America.

“The completion of this process marks a pivotal moment for STG, positioning us to invest in our people, our service, our technology, and our capabilities,” said Geoff Anderman, the company’s Chief Executive Officer.

It’s worth recalling that on January 12, the firm announced it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States. At the time, it stated that through the Restructuring Support Agreement (RSA), it would seek to reduce 91% of its debt and inject up to $150 million of new capital, with the aim of supporting future growth and increasing its liquidity.

After a little over five months in this process, STG Logistics, Inc. and some of its affiliates reached an agreement, whereby the firm reduced its financed debt obligations by nearly one billion dollars and secured new capital, providing the necessary financial flexibility to support its business operations in the future.

“With a significantly strengthened financial foundation and the backing of our new ownership group, we are well positioned to continue leading the industry as the only true provider of single-stop, port-to-door container shipping in North America, and we look forward to a bright future,” Anderman said.

He stated that with a significantly deleveraged balance sheet and the financial flexibility to invest in the business, the company will be well-positioned to capitalize on opportunities as the freight transport market recovers.

NUEVO VALLARTA, NAY.- The intermodal transportation industry in Mexico has made progress in gender equality , although just over a decade ago the majority of jobs were held by men, as was or still is the case in other sectors.

Hoshi Jurado , AVP Intermodal at Grupo México Transportes (GMXT) , acknowledged that when he joined the intermodal transportation industry 13 years ago, he thought: “Wow, this is like a mechanic’s shop . ”

Jurado has been a clear example of the integration and advancement of women in intermodal transportation , but she has also become a conduit for more of her peers to occupy positions in this sector.

During her participation in the panel Women in the Intermodal Industry , held at the XXVI Intermodal Congress 2025, organized by the Mexican Association of Intermodal Transport (AMTI) , she proudly emphasized that most of the team she currently leads has a balance tilted towards women .

“Not just for quotas. We don’t have to be a number; women have to be taken into account for their knowledge and abilities (…) the intermodal industry is driven by women,” she stated.

Linda Hernández has been working in the railroad industry for 17 years , although it wasn’t her first career choice when she was younger. Now, as Intermodal Sales Director at Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) in Mexico , she acknowledged that the sector has provided her with stability and renewal.

But these characteristics have not come by themselves; his time in the steel industry has provided him with mentors who “have been spectacular,” he stated during his participation in the panel. However, he also indicated that he has had to make sacrifices in his growth , although the key here is to maintain constant communication with companies to find areas of flexibility and support.

Linda is clear about her goal of supporting women in the railway sector, which is why, since February 2022, she has been the representative in Mexico of the League of Railway Women (LRW) , which promotes the careers of its members (around three thousand professionals) with scholarships or mentoring programs.

“If a woman grows, educates herself, and develops, she will surely have an impact on the companies where she works,” she said.

In the case of Vianey de la Mora , current general director of the Mexican Association of Railways (AMF) , her passion was not trains but the arts, although her career led her towards the railway sector in the construction and engineering projects area, but as she herself said, “everything happens for a reason.”

The industry leader asserted that companies have become more flexible to accommodate more women, although they have faced various obstacles that have made them “tougher-skinned . “

“It would be ideal to overcome the barrier of equity by that of capabilities,” he shared with attendees at the 26th Intermodal Congress 2025.

For her part, Paloma Burnell , Senior Vice President of Sales Operations at STG Logistics , recalled that a few years ago at the same company where she works, in a meeting with 22 executives only two participants were women , a reality that has been changing over time.

“We must be aware of the development of women’s leadership. The most important thing is to have a growth mindset, be curious, and keep exploring,” she said.

The panelists asserted that there will be more women in the intermodal transportation industry in the future, a step that can only be achieved with the empathy of all participants, in a world that still prioritizes the allocation of positions among men, a trend that must be eradicated .

Luis Hernandez, vice president of Intermodal for Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) , a subsidiary of Grupo Mexico Transportes (GMXT) , which was in charge of revealing the winner, said that since his beginnings at Maersk in Mexico, Javier has been a driving force behind intermodalism.

After his time at the shipping company, and together with a not-so-young group of entrepreneurs, he began a seemingly impossible task: getting the Ferromex intermodal terminals up and running on the Mexican railroad that had recently been concessioned to private enterprise.

He indicated that he has designed many processes that are still in use today in the operation of the country’s inland terminals, “although from his current position he criticizes them and often even forgets them. Today, he operates from the customer’s perspective, always seeking continuous improvement in service marketing and chasing us all to get things right.”

“It’s been a very important and beautiful part of my career. I’ve also had many setbacks. I’ve had many friends in the industry who have helped me get back on my feet. It’s been a long road, but I’ve been very happy in this career,” said Javier Sánchez.

Innovation

Likewise, the Silver Container for Innovation , a recognition that highlights the ideas, projects and solutions that are transforming the way cargo is moved in Mexico, went to Canadian National (CN) for its Falcon Premium service , which also includes Union Pacific and Grupo México Transportes, where it offers integrated transportation in the three North American countries .

With 100% rail operations and 53-foot containers, it offers a seamless service up to 24 hours faster than other routes. From Silao to Chicago in 96 hours, to Canada in 144. Lower costs, more capacity, and an emissions reduction of more than 75 percent.

“This award demonstrates what teamwork can do. This is an achievement of three railroads with three different cultures, acting as one. Spanning three countries—Mexico, the United States, and Canada—it definitely demonstrates what we can do as a team, with one goal in mind: to provide customers with a more efficient alternative at a fair cost. Thank you very much because behind all of this are many people who have dedicated a lot of time to making this service possible. We still have a long way to go, but we’re on the right track,” said Rodrigo Estrada Martínez, general manager of CN in Mexico.
