Mitsubishi Motors de México inaugurated a 42,000-square-meter (m²) storage yard at the port of Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, with a capacity for up to 2,000 units. The facility is part of a partnership with SSGA (General Services and Automotive Supplies of the Port) .

The yard features a perimeter fence, specialized paving, video surveillance systems , and flood prevention measures. This project responds to the growing need to improve the reception, storage, and distribution processes for vehicles from Japan, Thailand, and Indonesia.

“At Mitsubishi Motors de México, we continue to move forward thanks to the support of a dealer network that continues to strengthen. Our commitment is to ensure the availability of the necessary inventory to meet your needs quickly and in a timely manner. Therefore, we are inaugurating these new facilities, which will allow us to reduce vehicle delivery times by up to 50%,” said Ah-kin Vázquez, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors de México.

With the launch of this new storage yard in Lázaro Cárdenas, the company expects to reduce the delivery time of units to distributors from a current range of 10 to 12 days to just five to seven days .

The new yard isn’t the only logistics strategy implemented by the automotive company. In 2020, it moved its operations from Mazatlán to Lázaro Cárdenas, and in 2024, it opened specialized offices in this port.

It is worth remembering that Mitsubishi sold 25,373 units in fiscal year 2024 , which represented a 23% growth compared to fiscal year 2023.

During the first four months of 2025, the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas handled 278,448 vehicles , exceeding the 261,742 registered during the same period in 2024. This consolidates the port’s position as the national leader in automotive cargo, accounting for 34% of Mexico’s total vehicle import and export traffic, according to data from the Lázaro Cárdenas National Port System Administration (Asipona) .
