With a membership of 10 partners, the National Association of Trailer and Equipment Manufacturers (ANFRE) emerges , which aims to give visibility to this industry, give it formality and be key in the regulatory framework that governs this market, but, above all, to combat unfair practices with imports that generate imbalances.

Among the many challenges faced in this market is a high import of used equipment, which in 2025 represented 1.6 times (x) the production of units by formal companies, while manufacturing represented 22 thousand units, the income of equipment beyond the borders was close to 35 thousand units.

Jorge Martínez Madero, president of ANFRE, asserted that the goal is to give representation to a highly fragmented market, but also to regulate production to ensure that inputs that comply with foreign trade rules are used , and of course, to address regulations that promote road safety on national highways and roads.

Speaking about fragmentation, Martínez Madero noted that while 600 trailer manufacturers were mapped in 2018, by 2025 there were only 339 participants , “but of these, more than half of the registered manufacturers produce 10 units a year, that is, not even one a month.”

Jorge Martínez, also director of Fultra and owner of the trailer manufacturer Fruehauf, emphasized that a key focus will be regulating foreign trade and effectively enforcing regulations. “Our sector faces imports that create imbalances, operations that simulate domestic manufacturing, and products that don’t always meet the same standards required of companies formally established in the country. Competition is positive when it develops under clear rules and equivalent conditions.”

In addition to the above, ANFRE will work to strengthen road safety, which, according to the directors, begins with design, engineering, materials, components and manufacturing processes.

Guillermo Rosales, executive president of the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA), described how ANFRE will contribute to promoting manufacturers that guarantee safe, professional, and competitive transportation in our country.

From Rosales’ perspective, the interaction that can be had between different organizations will increase competitiveness in freight and mobility services, and within the framework of the review of the Trade Agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (USMCA) it will be possible to address the agenda for an economic sector that is relevant to the country.

Margarita Alcántara, general director of ANFRE, highlighted that the approach they will take in presenting the statistics aims to show the reality to all stakeholders. She exemplified that last May they were able to identify that within the import of used trailers, units from the 1977 model year were introduced, with all that this implies in terms of safety.

Meanwhile, regarding price dispersion, it can be seen that a third of the used trailers are priced below 100,000 pesos, and a quarter below 50,000 pesos . “What we are wondering about are the conditions under which this equipment is being imported,” warned Margarita Alcántara.

El cargo Combating unfair practices, promoting road safety and protecting national industry: ANFRE’s core objectives apareció primero en T21.

The way companies renew their fleets is changing. In a market where investment decisions are increasingly careful, leasing schemes are gaining ground as an alternative for incorporating vehicles without a large initial outlay.

Although this model still has ample room for growth in Mexico . According to Miguel Elizalde, director of ON Sustainable Mobility , around 15% of tractor-trailer acquisitions are made through leasing , while in the United States the proportion is closer to 50%.

Based on this market analysis, ON Sustainable Mobility launched its tractor-trailer leasing unit , completing the portfolio of services it had been developing for the automotive industry’s value chain. The operation begins with BAIC Nextar X9 units , although the business model will be multi-brand .

“We started with Grupo Get Motors , to whom we are very grateful. We hope to continue adding more units and expanding our multi-brand offering,” Elizalde explained in an interview with T21.

The executive noted that the company began operations offering specialized consulting services to manufacturers , importers, and distributors in the automotive industry. Later, it added the transport of new vehicles and cross-border operations between Mexico and the United States , while leasing now represents its fourth business unit, through which it seeks to strengthen its presence in the sector’s value chain.

Elizalde explained that this new approach responds to the current situation in the heavy vehicle market , where companies are looking for options to renew their fleets without committing to a high initial investment.

“We see a complex fleet renewal market and an environment where initial investments require increasingly careful decisions. In that context, leasing and financing schemes become an attractive option,” he stated.

He added that the company will offer different leasing schemes, adapting to the needs of each client, and indicated that the next step will be to incorporate semi-trailers , a segment where he sees a greater opportunity for growth.

“There we see a significant opportunity, because it is a market where leasing is much more common,” he commented.

As part of this new stage, the leasing company was established as a Public Limited Investment Promotion Company (SAPI) , a structure that will allow it to attract investors to strengthen the growth of the business.

“Leasing companies are very capital-intensive. This structure also represents an opportunity to attract investment that will allow us to grow at a faster pace,” he noted.

With this addition, ON Sustainable Mobility concludes the implementation of the business units it had planned in both Mexico and the United States.

It currently has operations in Mexico City, Mexicali, San Diego and California, focused mainly on meeting the needs of the automotive industry’s value chain.

El cargo ON Sustainable Mobility is committed to tractor-trailer leasing apareció primero en T21.

The semi-trailer market in Mexico began 2026 with Fruehauf as the manufacturer with the largest share during the first quarter of the year, concentrating 10.68% of the national market, according to results of the study by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) .

The company also reported a 35% share in the dry van segment , one of the main types of equipment used in freight transport for moving goods in the country.

In a context of increasing competition for trailer and semi-trailer manufacturers , the company attributed these results to the demand for specialized solutions for different transport operations, including dry vans, platforms, tanks, hoppers, chassis and dollies.

“Being the number one semi-trailer manufacturer in Mexico again is a source of pride and, at the same time, a great responsibility. This result reflects the trust and preference of our customers, employees, and business partners, who drive Fruehauf’s growth every day,” said Rodrigo Arcos, the company’s commercial director.

The company stated that it will continue to focus on product development and strengthening its production and service capacity to meet the needs of the transportation sector.

Fruehauf operates a manufacturing plant in Coacalco, State of Mexico, where it produces various types of equipment for cargo transport, in addition to having a facility dedicated to the manufacture of dry vans in Kentucky, United States.

The company is part of a key industry for the movement of goods and the performance of logistics chains in Mexico.

El cargo Fruehauf maintains leadership in semi-trailers during the first quarter of 2026 apareció primero en T21.

In the January-November 2025 cycle, the General Directorate of Federal Motor Transport (DGAF) registered 21,443 trailers and semi-trailers , of which 93% corresponded to the Federal Public Service (SPF) and the rest to private transport.

The towing equipment segment, as well as motor vehicles, showed a contraction during 2025, based on DGAF data, while in the accumulated January – November 2025 there was a contraction of 38.6% compared to the registration registered in 2024.

Dry van configurations , container chassis, platforms, tanks, curtainside platforms and refrigerated boxes accounted for 72% of all towing equipment registered by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) .

The category with the highest number of registrations was dry vans, with a total of 5,248 units registered in the January-November 2025 cycle. The segment leader was Fruehauf with 1,860 units, followed by ATRO with 698 and Gallegos with 423. These three companies account for 56.8% of the total category, according to an analysis by T21 Business Intelligence .

In the container chassis category, 3,606 units were added ; in this category , Forza led the registration with 839 units, ATRO with 536 and RR Jaliscienses with 299. These three brands concentrated 46.4% of the total.

The platforms totaled 3,274 units , and in this category ATRO led the registration with 330 units, Corpus Christi with 234 and De Lucio with 205. This category is more spread out among the participating companies, according to the data analyzed from the DGAF.

In the January-November 2025 cycle , two thousand 981 tanks were registered , of which Truxton added 310 units, ATRO reached 298 and Gallegos 293, both from the SPF and private transport.

Data from the DGAF showed that 853 refrigerated boxes were registered during the analysis cycle, and in this category there is a greater concentration of participants, where Utility totaled 562 refrigerated boxes and Great Dane added 110 units, together both brands concentrated 79% of the category.

Curtain-sided platforms totaled 628 units , with Operbus accounting for 231 units, Tyrsol 112, and ATRO 108. These three brands reached 72% of the category, according to data from the DGAF.
