Scania Mexico relocated  its headquarters to León, Guanajuato, with an investment of 51.19 million pesos (mdp) , as part of its expansion and network renewal plan in 2025, with which it seeks to improve after-sales service in the logistics corridors of the Bajío region .

Manuel Aranda, Retail Director of Scania Mexico, noted that the new headquarters is part of a national framework for coverage and process standardization .

“This site was created to be closer to the customer and translate that closeness into operational agility. The network grows where it adds the most value: through direct access, efficient flows, and predictable scheduling,” he explained.

For his part, Alejandro Mondragón, president and CEO of Scania Mexico, indicated that the new headquarters seeks  to serve flows connecting Mexico City, Aguascalientes, Guadalajara and San Luis Potosí, in proximity to the Silao logistics and industrial cluster .

The new facility, located on the highway and featuring a larger maneuvering yard, has a total area of ​​5,323 square meters (m²), including a 1,580 m² workshop, seven work bays , and an estimated capacity of 1,900 services per year . It also has a 120 m² warehouse that houses nearly 3,000 part numbers.

It is also designed to streamline the entry and exit of units, reduce wait times, and improve service to carriers . Additionally, four additional bays were added compared to the previous location, as well as an area dedicated to major component repairs.

In terms of sustainability, the facility stands out for its LED lighting, 11 cooling units, workshop air extraction system , and a waste separation area, as well as attention to units that operate on compressed natural gas (CNG).

Scania’s relocation adds to the dynamism of the automotive sector in Guanajuato, which in 2024 produced a record 896,000+ assembled vehicles , according to state government data. During the first half of 2025, automobile exports to the United States grew by 27 billion pesos, according to figures from the Guanajuato Automotive Cluster (CLAUGTO) .

At least seven out of 10 mines in Mexico do not use specialized vehicles , which represents high costs, greater physical strain on operators, and less safe working environments, Scania Mexico warned.

In the context of National Miners’ Day, the Swedish company noted that transportation for this activity must guarantee operator well-being through ergonomic cabins, state-of-the-art braking systems, and reinforced suspensions for safe handling in extreme terrain.

Therefore, he called for strengthening specialized transportation and the supply chain in mining , through services and products that contribute to making the sector more profitable and sustainable.

Operational efficiency, profitability, and environmental commitment in the extraction of metals and minerals are key factors that will define Mexico’s role in the new geopolitical mining landscape, the company emphasized in a statement.

“One of the sector’s main needs is the fastest possible movement of extracted minerals and metals in the shortest possible time and at the lowest possible cost. In terms of transportation, every liter of diesel consumed and every minute of downtime directly impacts the return on investment of projects,” said Said Vivas Sáenz, Director of Transportation Solutions for Mining, Special Applications, and Engines at Scania Mexico.

Mexico has seven of the 21 metals—including copper, graphite, and manganese—  classified by the International Energy Agency (IEA)  as essential for the development of clean technologies and batteries. Given this advantage, Scania believes the country must position itself as a leader in the global energy transition , and therefore must begin optimizing mining transportation.

Towards operational efficiency

Scania Mexico highlighted the efficiency of mines in Banámichi, Sonora, and Fresnillo, Zacatecas, which operate with vehicles fully adapted for mining and achieved fuel savings of between 35% and 37% , in addition to a significant reduction in the emission of pollutants such as carbon dioxide (CO₂) and nitrogen oxides (NOx).

Vivas Sáenz emphasized that specialized vehicles are essential to improving the sector’s efficiency and that, to position Mexico in the global mining sector, incorporating smart technology throughout the supply chain is key.

The mining industry in Mexico is among the five most important in the country , according to the Ministry of Economy , which indicated that in the fourth quarter of 2024 this sector generated a GDP of 1.13 billion pesos, with a growth of 2.4% compared to the previous quarter, and that it employs more than 300,000 people.

The Canada-Mexico Chamber of Commerce ‘s (CanCham) Women in Business and Inclusion Committee recognized the “Scania Drivers” program for promoting female inclusion in the trucking sector.

Among the internal changes that were faced, as described by Cristhian León, is his arrival at the Commercial and After-Sales Department, but also the new structure where the Retail Department was incorporated to serve a segmented market that also demands Scania products.

One element that the manager highlights is the profitability achieved during 2024 by Scania , which translates into a greater capacity to have organized growth in the corporation, which is evident in the market.

“Companies are looking to improve their profitability and our business model is to be another department in our clients’ structure, oriented to be equally or more profitable,” said Cristhian León.

One element that the manager highlights is the change in market conditions, and where Scania is aware that it cannot depend on a group or a series of groups to achieve sales goals, which is why, “we must increase the field of action to reach more customers in a scenario of uncertainty.”

Scania was a pioneer in the implementation of maintenance policies, changing the traditional model of transporters where they were responsible for these activities, to now transfer them to the supplier, even if it is within their facilities.

To this end, León Navarro explained that the corporation has an investment plan, such as the Tepotzotlán branch in the State of Mexico, or the Central Parts Warehouse that is already operating.

In addition to infrastructure, the other front is the workforce, which is why a training center will be inaugurated in Querétaro, which aims to increase the capacity of the teams that serve the fleet in circulation, which is constantly growing every year.

“Our fleet in circulation is constantly growing, and more than 90% of these units have a maintenance policy, which is why we must increase our support capacity,” emphasized Cristhian León.
