Women’s participation in technical areas of the trucking industry is gaining ground with the launch of ” Techniques of the Future ,” a program promoted by Scania Mexico and the German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) that seeks to train specialized female talent for the heavy transport industry, the companies reported through a press release.

The initiative is part of the “ Women Driving Change ” project and started with a first generation made up of nine women who will begin their automotive technical training at the CEDVA Group Educational Center.

The program includes six months of training: two months of theoretical and practical training and four months of professional internships accompanied by Scania specialists .

The goal is to increase female representation in technical and specialized positions within an industry facing transformations related to electromobility, digitalization, and the decarbonization of transport.

The project has technical and financial support from the develoPPP program, promoted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), in addition to the participation of Pro Sociedad and Grupo CEDVA.

Johanna Wysluch, director of the Cities and Transport project at GIZ, pointed out that the future of transport will depend on the sector’s ability to attract and develop diverse talent, and therefore considered that specialized training for women contributes to reducing participation gaps in an activity historically dominated by men.

The curriculum includes 32 training modules . Of these, seven focus on technical knowledge related to automotive mechanics, and 25 are part of a career development plan. In addition, participants will receive introductory training in electromobility and 10 courses focused on social-emotional skills.

Alejandro Mondragón, president and CEO of Scania Mexico, highlighted that the technological evolution of transportation demands increasingly specialized profiles, particularly given the advancement of electric vehicles, diagnostic systems and solutions geared towards sustainability.

Once the training is completed, the participants will have a career plan and will be linked with job opportunities within companies in the transport sector, with the support of Scania and the organizations involved in the project.

The initiative adds to the efforts that various companies and organizations have promoted in recent years to increase female participation in an industry where the presence of women continues to be a minority, particularly in operational and technical areas.

Samuel García, governor of Nuevo León, recently visited Sweden and made new announcements for the heavy vehicle industry in the Mexican state. Volvo Trucks has already begun operational testing at its Ciénega de Flores plant , and Scania confirmed a new investment in the state with the opening of a branch in García.

During his visit to Scania’s global facilities, the governor of Nuevo León noted that the brand, belonging to the Traton Group , maintains an investment in Escobedo and announced that there are ongoing discussions for future projects in the state with International Trucks, another firm that is part of the conglomerate.

“We’re very happy. Today we were at Scania, which belongs to the Traton Group, this large global truck conglomerate. They already have a company, a very large investment of 800 million dollars in Escobedo. They are going to expand, and we agreed to meet soon in Nuevo León for future projects of Scania and International Trucks,” commented Samuel García in a video shared on social media.

In some messages shared during his tour of Sweden, Samuel García alluded to a possible Scania investment related to a manufacturing plant in Nuevo León .

Meanwhile, Alejandro Mondragón , CEO and general manager of Scania Mexico , responded to García and confirmed the opening of a new branch in the municipality of García in November of this year. The facility will be located on Periférico and Lincoln, will have more than 30,000 square meters of space, and will generate more than 50 direct jobs, in addition to a similar number of indirect jobs.

“We are very excited to continue strengthening our presence in the state,” said Mondragón, who added that Nuevo León maintains a vision aligned with the industrial growth, infrastructure and sustainable mobility that Scania promotes in Mexico.

The executive also highlighted that the company is already developing initiatives in Monterrey such as Scania Drivers , a program focused on training and job placement for female operators.

Scania’s investment comes as Volvo Trucks accelerates the start-up of its plant in Ciénega de Flores, where production tests have already begun since April, according to Samuel García.

“They’ve already finished their plant in Ciénega de Flores. They completed the plant in seven months,” commented the state governor, who also indicated that the first truck production run took place on April 27 and that mass hiring and large-scale production will begin in July.

He also reported that Volvo will begin by hiring 600 people and will subsequently increase its workforce by 2027.

The Ciénega de Flores plant is part of Volvo Trucks’ expansion strategy in North America and strengthens the consolidation of Nuevo León as one of the main manufacturing and investment hubs for the trucking industry in Mexico, according to Samuel García.

El cargo Samuel García announces Scania’s investment in Nuevo León; Volvo begins plant testing apareció primero en T21.

The  inclusion of women in the trucking industry  is beginning to take shape in  Scania Mexico ‘s strategy , in a sector where the presence of  female operators  remains marginal and progress is gradual. 

The low  participation of women in the industry  is also reflected in official data. At the end of 2025, only 1% of valid federal licenses were held by women, that is, 6,902 female operators compared to more than 717,000 men, according to the  General Directorate of Federal Motor Transport (DGAF) . 

The gap widens in the freight segment, where the sector’s activity is most concentrated. In this area,  female participation reached 5,335 licenses, equivalent to only 0.9% nationwide, a proportion that reveals the significant room that still exists for their incorporation into freight transport. 

In this context,  Scania Mexico  has made progress with its  Scania Women Drivers program , which has already completed seven cohorts  and graduated 72 women . The automaker is preparing to launch the eighth cohort, which will take place in Monterrey, Nuevo León, with the expectation of adding 10 new participants. 

“We already have seven graduating classes, 72 women. So, we are very happy. This year we expect to have three more graduating classes, so that by the end of the year we will have reached 100 female drivers,” emphasized Rodolfo Hernández, Manager of Institutional Relations and Sustainability at Scania Mexico.

The program’s next step also marks a change in its structure. The  eighth generation  will be the first in which they collaborate with the German technical cooperation agency  GIZ , in addition to having sponsors in Monterrey. 

At the same time, the company secured the support of a civil association called Pro Sociedad , which will help systematize the monitoring of graduates. The goal is to obtain more precise information about their progress within the sector, from their working conditions to the challenges they face in their work, through surveys and data collection. 

Until now, support  for the operators  has been provided directly , but the program’s growth has made it necessary to structure this process. Through this monitoring, the company seeks to understand how the graduates’ circumstances have changed and what adjustments are needed to strengthen future generations. 

With  three generations projected for this year , the goal of reaching the 100th operator  not only represents a symbolic objective, but the beginning of a stage where the program begins to consolidate with greater reach, monitoring and measurement capacity in a sector that still has ample room to integrate female talent.

Scania Mexico inaugurated a new facility in Chihuahua , part of its strategy to strengthen its logistics operations nationwide . The facility meets the infrastructure, security, and connectivity standards required to serve its customers.

The headquarters has a total area of ​​700 square meters (m²) and has three work areas divided into two boxes and an area for turning larger components.

The facility will begin operations with a team consisting of three technicians, a service advisor, a workshop manager, and a service coordinator.

The project seeks to establish a direct presence in the region’s operations , through infrastructure and equipment designed to provide better service to transport operations.

Scania operates as a transport solutions provider with an international presence.  In 2025 alone, it delivered 87,600 trucks and 6,500 buses and coaches to its customers.

The company employs more than 53,000 people in over 100 countries. It has maintained a presence in Mexico since 1994 and has its own network of 17 branches, 55 service points, and 1,000 employees.

The push to incorporate more women into the trucking industry in Mexico has entered a new phase. The Scania Women Drivers program , which began as a training initiative, now seeks to consolidate itself as a movement with sustained impact .

The challenge, however, remains profound. Women’s participation in freight transport operations is still limited in a sector historically dominated by men.

The gap in operations is most evident in the official figures. According to data from the General Directorate of Federal Motor Transport (DGAF) , at the end of 2025, only 1% of valid federal licenses belonged to women , with just 6,902 female operators compared to more than 717,000 men.

In the cargo segment, where the greatest activity is concentrated, female participation reaches 5,335 licenses, which is equivalent to just 0.9% at the national level , demonstrating the wide margin that exists for their incorporation into the sector.

This limited participation is compounded by an additional challenge. According to the International Road Transport Union (IRU) , the sector faced a shortage of around 99,000 operators by 2025, a scarcity that is beginning to put pressure on companies’ operations.

In this context, Scania Mexico announced the launch of a new cycle of its Scania Women Drivers program , scheduled to begin in 2026, with the addition of three new cohorts. This will bring the total number of trained cohorts to 10 , solidifying its position as one of the most consistent initiatives for increasing female participation in freight transport.

This is significant progress. For years, the presence of women in the trucking industry has been limited, both in operations and in technical areas. In response to this situation, the program has evolved into a more structured model, with an emphasis on professional development and employability .

This new phase will be developed in collaboration with GIZ Mexico and the develoPPP program, strengthening training standards. The approach includes not only technical training , but also the development of professional and soft skills, as well as job placement programs that facilitate entry into the formal sector.

The goal is to move beyond the perception that operating a truck is a restricted domain. Under the “Drive Like a Woman” concept , the initiative seeks to redefine this idea and position it as a standard of leadership, precision, and resilience within the industry.

The results are beginning to show. To date, the program has trained seven generations, with more than 70 graduates and a job placement rate of nearly 80% , which points toward greater economic independence and permanence in the sector.

Beyond the numbers, the change lies in the approach. Scania Women Drivers is no longer an isolated effort but a continuous strategy aimed at strengthening communities, opening opportunities, and contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable transport system.

Scania Mexico announced that it will soon release more details about this new phase, which aims to further expand the program’s reach in the coming years.

Strengthening after-sales service and continuously improving the customer experience are among Scania Mexico ‘s priorities for the coming years, in a context where the industry demands greater operational efficiency and closer relationships with carriers, according to Gisela Quintero, the company’s Customer Experience and Services Director.

Quintero commented that the company seeks to promote programs focused on evaluating and improving the customer service processes that support the operation of its field units. The intention is that every interaction with the service network contributes to improving customer relations and unit availability.

“The area has a strong focus on supporting after-sales service, but also on going a step further, on continuing to improve the experience of our customers every time they visit us,” he emphasized.

He explained that the goal is to ensure that internal programs allow for constant review of what is being done and how the experience of those who acquire or maintain their vehicles within the brand’s network can be improved.

In that regard, he emphasized that having a structured approach to customer experience is fundamental for the transportation industry, as it allows supporting the carrier throughout the vehicle’s life cycle, from acquisition to maintenance services.

One of the elements the company considers a differentiator is its close relationship with its users. To this end, Scania holds regular service meetings where it reviews, together with the carriers, the performance of their vehicles and the specific needs of each operation.

“We sit down with the clients to see how their operation is going and how together we can ensure that the unit is where it needs to be, which is on the roads, moving passengers or cargo,” he explained.

The company is also continuing to expand its service network . Last year, it completed eight projects, including new locations and facility renovations, a strategy aimed at strengthening service coverage across the country.

Among the projects that Scania Mexico completed in 2025, there was the relocation of its headquarters in León, Guanajuato, as well as the relocation of its Quality Assurance Center for Buses to the Innovation Technology Park in El Marqués, Querétaro, and others.

In 2026, Quintero noted that the economic environment remains somewhat uncertain , particularly during the first half of the year. However, he expressed confidence that the market’s direction would become clearer by the second half.

“I think the third quarter will give us much more visibility into how to handle things in the future,” he commented, referring to the potential impact of the definition of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Despite this situation, the company maintains a long-term perspective focused on supporting its customers , with solutions that integrate product and service to keep the units operating on the road.

The search for greater operational efficiency and lower emissions in passenger transport motivated Scania Mexico to present its new Super chassis , a platform designed to increase energy performance, safety and profitability of bus fleets.

The launch took place during Expo Foro Movilidad 2026 , where the firm highlighted that the new development is part of its strategy to move towards a more sustainable transportation system.

Alejandro Mondragón, president and CEO of Scania Mexico, explained that sustainability in transportation should not be understood as an additional cost for companies, but as a direct improvement in operational efficiency.

“Every percentage point of fuel efficiency improvement we make automatically impacts operating economy and emissions reduction,” he said during the presentation of the new model.

The executive emphasized Mexico’s importance to the company within its global bus business. According to Mondragón, the country has become Scania’s most important market worldwide for long-distance buses , a result of the sector’s growth and the work carried out in recent years.

The brand’s history in the passenger segment in Mexico, he explained, has been built on operational and service innovations. Among these, he mentioned the Customer Workshop Services (CWS) model , which operates workshops located within customer facilities and was introduced in 2009, now totaling more than 40 centers in the passenger segment .

In that context, the new Super chassis is presented as the next technological evolution of the brand.

During the launch, Néstor Lara, director of Buses at Scania Mexico, explained that the new chassis offers 8% more fuel efficiency compared to the Nuvak chassis , an improvement that, he noted, becomes significant when translated into liters consumed and operating costs for transport companies.

In addition to energy efficiency, the model incorporates safety improvements through an optimized ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) , which seeks to increase protection for both operators and passengers.

Another of the announced improvements is the durability of the powertrain —comprising the engine, gearbox and differential— which now offers 25% more useful life compared to the previous chassis .

In environmental terms, the new development also aims to reduce the impact of transportation. According to the company, the Super chassis allows for a 9% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to the previous model , while maintaining Euro 6 emissions technology .

The model maintains a modular architecture that facilitates fleet operations. Scania indicated that the new chassis retains 90% component compatibility with other products from the brand, which facilitates spare parts availability and maintenance tasks.

For the company, this combination of energy efficiency, greater durability and operational compatibility seeks to strengthen the profitability of passenger transport companies.

With the launch of the Super chassis, Scania seeks to consolidate its presence in the Mexican bus market, a segment in which the firm has strengthened its participation in recent years through technological innovation, service development and expansion of its support network.

Scania Mexico announced the relocation of its Bus Quality Assurance Center (BBMQA) to the Innovation Technology Park in El Marqués, Querétaro , as part of its strategy to expand and improve its customer service.

“The bus market in Mexico today demands high-tech products and increasingly robust quality processes. With this relocation, we strengthen our ability to support customers with reliable solutions, from the chassis to the ready-to-operate vehicle,” highlighted Alejandro Mondragón, president and CEO of Scania Mexico.

The new facility has a surface area of ​​two thousand square meters (m²), which will allow for increased assembly capacity . With this infrastructure, up to five pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) focused on buses can be carried out daily, reinforcing quality control of chassis and the final product, the company explained in a statement.

The location of the Innovation Technology Park offers logistical and operational advantages by concentrating quality assurance, assembly and PDI activities in one place; which would facilitate coordination with bodybuilders, partners and actors in the value chain.

Gisela Quintero, Director of Customer Experience and Service at Scania Mexico, indicated that the Quality Assurance Center for Buses is a key link in the service network .

“In this way, we will deliver more products that meet expectations in terms of safety, comfort, and availability. When we say that Scania is committed to the customer experience, we are talking about decisions like these—that is, investments in infrastructure, processes, and people so that the promise we make is fulfilled in every unit,” he emphasized.

For his part, Néstor Lara, director of People Transport Solutions at Scania Mexico, said that this new facility increases the capacity to work with bodybuilders and ensures that each bus is ready to generate value from the first kilometer .

In 2024 alone, Scania delivered 96,443 trucks, 5,626 buses, and 11,170 industrial and marine propulsion systems. The company operates in more than 100 countries with 59,000 employees and production facilities in several regions. In Mexico, it has more than 1,000 employees, 17 branches, and over 60 service points .

Scania Mexico celebrated the graduation of the seventh generation of Scania Female Drivers, a program that since 2022 has promoted the training of women truck operators in response to the shortage of operators in the country.

“With Scania Women Drivers, we confirm that freight transport can be more competitive precisely because it is more inclusive. We don’t just train operators; we help more women integrate into an industry that is key to the economy, ensuring that our customers’ fleets have qualified talent,” said Alejandro Mondragón, president and CEO of Scania Mexico, at a ceremony held in the capital of San Luis Potosí.

For the seventh graduating class, Scania collaborated with Grupo PASA , Autotransportes Pilot and the Institute for Job Training (ICAT) of San Luis Potosí , with the goal of ensuring that the training translates into employment and more units in operation.

Since its inception, the program has trained more than 72 women operators; the first six cohorts trained 62 participants , and eight out of ten are now employed by transportation companies. Most found jobs within a month of completing their training.

“Each graduate makes a real difference to the operation of our customers’ fleets: greater vehicle availability, increased road safety, and greater professionalization of truck driving. Their effort translates into increased productivity for the industry,” stated Jorge Navarro, Director of Trucks and Power Solutions at Scania Mexico.

Delia López Rodríguez, representative of the seventh generation, thanked Scania and the allied companies for providing training opportunities and for the support received during the process.

The graduates were: Jennifer Ximena Suvea Bustamante, Perla del Carmen Serna Trejo, Ángela Agustina Ramírez Vaquera, Alma Daniela Ramírez Becerra, Andrea Natalia Pérez Gómez, María de Jesús Pacheco Gallegos, Norma Geraldine Moreno Santanta, Delia López Rodríguez, Juana Griselda Hernández Escareño and Claudia Gutiérrez Loredo.

Leonardo Gómez, executive president of the National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP) , highlighted that the graduates inspire other women, support their families and pave the way for new generations, strengthening the sector with their participation .

For her part, Mariana García, Technical Training Manager of Grupo PASA, highlighted that the graduates demonstrated commitment and that their effort becomes a tangible contribution to the industry .

Estefanía García, Human Resources Manager at Autotransportes Pilot, stated that there is a support network for women who decide to join the transportation sector, and that their participation breaks paradigms in a historically male-dominated industry .

Scania Drivers offers a 196-hour theoretical and practical curriculum in safe driving, basic mechanics and maintenance , in coordination with the Industrial Work Training Centers (Cecati) and the ICAT, in addition to instruction in the maneuvering yard by Scania master drivers.

Scania Drivers was born in Argentina in 2019 and arrived in Mexico in 2022, with the goal of increasing female participation in the transport labor market and addressing the shortage of operators that affects national logistics.

Data from the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) and the International Road Transport Union (IRU) indicate that Mexico faces a shortage of tens of thousands of operators, with estimated economic losses of 1.5 billion pesos (mdp) annually due to idled units and higher operating costs.

El cargo Scania female drivers graduate their seventh generation in San Luis Potosí apareció primero en T21.

Scania Mexico opened its 18th branch in the country, located in Villahermosa, Tabasco , continuing its national expansion plan and strengthening its customer service network.

“This opening reflects our commitment to being close to those who trust Scania every day. Behind every kilometer traveled is a business, a family, and a story that requires friendly, timely, and quality service, and Villahermosa allows us to be closer to them,” emphasized Gisela Quintero, the company’s Director of Customer Experience and Services.

The new facility represents a strategic location for the Swedish-based automaker in southeastern Mexico, the company emphasized in a statement.

“Villahermosa is consolidating its position as a logistics and energy hub for this region of the country, connecting Tabasco with key states such as Veracruz, Chiapas, Campeche, and the Yucatán Peninsula, where the Distribution Centers (CDI) of major supermarket chains are located. It is also a large oil-producing region linked to the Olmeca Refinery and the ports of Dos Bocas and Frontera,” the company emphasized.

The opening of this branch represented an investment of 23.56 million pesos , which aims to consolidate Scania’s presence in the southeast of the country and provide first-class service to the region’s customers.

“Villahermosa is strategic because it connects Tabasco to the peninsula and to high-impact logistics corridors . More than 270 Scania units circulate here , and customers will now have access to modern infrastructure, certified technicians, and spare parts availability to keep their operations moving,” said Manuel Aranda, Scania’s Retail Director.

The facility has a total area of ​​1,604 square meters (m²), including a 940 m² workshop and a 218 m² warehouse , as well as spaces designed for clients and employees such as a dining room, coworking space, bedrooms, dressing rooms and showers, a rest area for operators, and parking.

The workshop features four service bays—including one for gas engines and one for buses—as well as a stationary pneumatic and lubricant network, and eight mobile cooling units.

A team of nine direct employees—including advisors, technicians, and parts specialists, all trained to ensure timely and quality service—are servicing the new unit.

In terms of sustainability , the branch incorporates LED lighting, which reduces electricity consumption. It also has eight cooling units for thermal comfort , which reduce the need for heating, and an air extraction system that regulates temperature and humidity. “Thanks to these solutions, we optimize resource use, save energy, and actively contribute to environmental protection.”

In addition to selling cargo vehicles, buses, and special applications, the Villahermosa branch will offer certified technicians in CNG technology (gas engines), as well as a large spare parts warehouse and assistance team.

With the new facility, Scania reaffirms its vision of being a strategic partner for transportation in Mexico, offering comprehensive solutions focused on innovation, after-sales service, and sustainability .

It’s worth remembering that Scania operates in more than 100 countries and has 59,000 employees.
