Cargo theft continues to put pressure on logistics operations in Mexico. In 2025 alone, 10,367 thefts of heavy vehicles were reported , according to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) , while 62% of industry leaders say that these types of incidents have increased in the last five years .

In response to this scenario, Samsara presented its new Incident Center in Mexico , a platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that seeks to streamline the detection and handling of operational and asset security risks from a single system, the company reported in a statement.

The solution centralizes real-time monitoring, data analysis, and coordination of security teams on a single operational panel, with the goal of reducing reaction times to events such as fuel theft, GPS jamming , accidents, misuse of units, activation of panic buttons, or abnormal stops.

Key features of the platform include proactive alerts , the visualization of operators , vehicles, and assets on a single map , and workflow automation to accelerate response protocols and improve coordination between teams. It also incorporates post-incident analysis tools to detect recurring patterns and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented actions.

Luis Larrea, Sales Engineering Manager at Samsara in Mexico, explained that one of the main challenges for companies is the fragmentation of systems during an emergency, which delays decision-making at critical moments.

“Unlike traditional protocols, where security teams must follow several steps or even switch between multiple platforms, this solution consolidates all critical information into a single dashboard to contact the operator, immobilize the unit, or escalate the case in real time,” he said.

The company noted that, in many cases, monitoring areas still rely on intermittent GPS signals, manual calls, and various platforms disconnected from each other, complicating the immediate response to a theft or operational incident.

Furthermore, the system prioritizes events according to their severity level to prevent security teams from focusing on minor alerts and losing sight of critical operational risks. Claudia Fernández, Prevention Manager at MexAmerik , stated that the platform provides a comprehensive view of operations and allows for faster detection of criminal patterns.

“The Samsara Incident Center allows us to have a comprehensive overview of the operation instead of reviewing each unit individually. Because the information is visually easy to understand, we can detect crime patterns on the map and make decisions much faster,” he noted.

The representation of the trucking industry in the State of Mexico is being renewed at a time when operating on highways involves increasing pressure. Insecurity , overregulation, and rising costs are the main challenges that the new Board of Directors of the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar)  in the state will have to address.

In that context, Paulina Montserrat Muñoz Mortara took over as state delegate with a marked stance: the chamber must cease to be just a representative body and become an entity that listens and resolves.

“Today we make a commitment: to be a delegation that is approachable, a delegation that listens and a delegation that acts, that not only represents, but also solves problems,” he said during his swearing-in ceremony.

From her first address, the new delegate placed the transportation sector at the center of the agenda, particularly micro and small business owners , acknowledging that they face the greatest difficulties in their daily operations. She stated that her goal is to strengthen ties with the sector and build a more proactive representation to address its challenges.

The challenge is significant. Trucking handles over 80% of the country’s goods and more than 548 million tons annually , making it a pillar of the national economy, Muñoz noted.

At the state level, the relevance is even greater. The State of Mexico is consolidating its position as one of the country’s main logistics hubs, with a high concentration of goods flows and constant transit of cargo units.

In that sense, more than 1.2 million cargo vehicles travel along the Mexico-Queretaro highway each month, reflecting the operational intensity of the region, commented Augusto Ramos, national president of Canacar.

Furthermore, around 85,000 cargo units operate in the state , which illustrates the magnitude of the activity and the need to improve its conditions, he said.

Given this scenario, security remains the sector’s main enemy, along with the shortage of operators and the need to strengthen competitiveness, according to Ramos, who warned that the challenges lie outside the industry and require coordinated work.

“The enemy is not here, the enemy is out there, it’s called insecurity… it’s called a shortage of operators… it’s called conditions for the trucking industry to be more competitive,” he said.

In that regard, he stressed the importance of maintaining permanent working groups between authorities and the private sector , especially on issues of security, infrastructure and rest conditions for operators, such as comprehensive rest stops.

The approach also aims at professionalizing the sector , both in training current operators and in attracting new profiles to an activity that he described as “dignified and well-paid”.

In this second edition of the international ranking, six Mexican executives were included. Logistics operations in Mexico face increasing pressures that force companies to rethink the management of their fleets, in an environment where costs, insecurity and operational efficiency have become determining factors, explained Luis Larrea, senior regional manager of Field Engineering at Samsara Mexico.

At The Logistics World Summit & Expo , Larrea explained that eight out of every ten products consumed in the country are transported through the logistics sector , while 72% of the national economy depends on foreign trade , highlighting the importance of trucking to economic activity. However, this dynamism coexists with rising costs: fuel prices have increased by 16.7% , while insurance premiums have risen between 15% and 20%.

Adding to this context is the issue of insecurity. Between January and October 2025, 5,200 robberies were recorded on Mexican highways , according to data from Samsara, with estimated losses of between 7 and 10 billion pesos annually.

Given this scenario, technological adoption is becoming increasingly important. Currently, 48% of fleets already use artificial intelligence (AI) , although its implementation requires clear objectives and a defined strategy to generate value in operations.

One of the main challenges remains fuel, which can represent between 30% and 50% of operating costs . In this respect, even marginal reductions can translate into significant impacts on profitability.

Operational visibility is positioned as a key element. Tools such as telematics, process digitization, in-cab cameras with alerts , operator training programs, and monitoring systems allow for improved operational control, optimized routes, and more efficient cost management, Larrea explained.

In particular, measuring idling speed and fuel consumption becomes critical . Identifying unnecessary expenses, analyzing driving habits, and differentiating between productive and unproductive idling allows for performance improvements, cost reductions, and real-time operational visibility.

Concrete examples reflect these benefits. Companies like Potosinos have reported a 23% increase in delivery time productivity , as well as a 20% reduction in fuel leaks and a 7% reduction in operator turnover .

In terms of fleet utilization , monitoring key performance indicators—such as productive hours, unit usage, maintenance, and route management—allows for progress toward more efficient operations. This translates into reduced operating costs, fewer units out of service, and improved asset management.

In this process, AI is positioned as a cross-cutting enabler that impacts various areas of the operation. From operators, with vehicle inspections, document interpretation, and in-cab monitoring, to maintenance and administrative teams, where this technology facilitates route management, report generation, invoicing, and order tracking.

The benefits are also reflected in financial and safety indicators. One example is PROAN , which achieved an 80% reduction in freight collection time and a 64% decrease in speeding violations , in an operation with more than 450 vehicles and over 70 years of experience .

Larrea emphasized that the combination of technology, data, and discipline in measuring indicators is emerging as the path to strengthening efficiency, reducing costs, and improving the competitiveness of the trucking industry in Mexico .

Grupo Flecha Amarilla reported a reduction in distracted driving behaviors after integrating Samsara ‘s Connected Operations Platform® into its operations, as part of a strategy focused on fleet monitoring, data analysis, and operator training.

According to the company, between 2024 and 2025 there was a 14% decrease in cell phone use while driving, after centralizing the operational information of more than two thousand vehicles on a single technological platform, which allowed for improved fleet visibility and real-time decision-making.

The industry context shows that distracted driving remains one of the main road risks. According to the report “The State of Connected Operations: Distracted Driving in Physical Operations ,” prepared by Samsara, 79% of commercial operators worldwide experienced at least one near miss in 2025 related to distractions. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that using a mobile phone while driving increases the likelihood of being involved in a traffic accident by up to four times.

Juan Pablo Martín Yamín, corporate commercial director of Grupo Flecha Amarilla, explained that before adopting the Samsara platform, operations were managed using four different systems. “We didn’t have a platform that integrated all the operational information,” he noted, which limited fleet visibility and real-time response.

As part of the implementation, Grupo Flecha Amarilla incorporated 1,600 telematics terminals and 1,600 dashboard cameras with artificial intelligence , integrated via API into Samsara’s Connected Operations Platform. In addition, critical alerts related to events such as unscheduled stops and door openings were automated, as well as door and temperature sensors for monitoring onboard conditions.

In the area of ​​training, the company, which operates as a training center authorized by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) , adjusted its training programs based on real driving data.
