Cargo theft continues to put pressure on logistics operations in Mexico. In 2025 alone, 10,367 thefts of heavy vehicles were reported , according to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) , while 62% of industry leaders say that these types of incidents have increased in the last five years .

In response to this scenario, Samsara presented its new Incident Center in Mexico , a platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that seeks to streamline the detection and handling of operational and asset security risks from a single system, the company reported in a statement.

The solution centralizes real-time monitoring, data analysis, and coordination of security teams on a single operational panel, with the goal of reducing reaction times to events such as fuel theft, GPS jamming , accidents, misuse of units, activation of panic buttons, or abnormal stops.

Key features of the platform include proactive alerts , the visualization of operators , vehicles, and assets on a single map , and workflow automation to accelerate response protocols and improve coordination between teams. It also incorporates post-incident analysis tools to detect recurring patterns and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented actions.

Luis Larrea, Sales Engineering Manager at Samsara in Mexico, explained that one of the main challenges for companies is the fragmentation of systems during an emergency, which delays decision-making at critical moments.

“Unlike traditional protocols, where security teams must follow several steps or even switch between multiple platforms, this solution consolidates all critical information into a single dashboard to contact the operator, immobilize the unit, or escalate the case in real time,” he said.

The company noted that, in many cases, monitoring areas still rely on intermittent GPS signals, manual calls, and various platforms disconnected from each other, complicating the immediate response to a theft or operational incident.

MexAmerik success story

Furthermore, the system prioritizes events according to their severity level to prevent security teams from focusing on minor alerts and losing sight of critical operational risks. Claudia Fernández, Prevention Manager at MexAmerik , stated that the platform provides a comprehensive view of operations and allows for faster detection of criminal patterns.

“The Samsara Incident Center allows us to have a comprehensive overview of the operation instead of reviewing each unit individually. Because the information is visually easy to understand, we can detect crime patterns on the map and make decisions much faster,” he noted.

With this commitment, Samsara seeks to strengthen the response capabilities of transport companies in a context where asset security and operational continuity have become increasingly critical factors for the industry.

freight transport sector moves more than 570 million tons annually and contributes approximately 5.9% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) , establishing itself as one of the main drivers of the economy, he explained.

In the State of Mexico, the operational pressure is even greater. The state concentrates more than 101,000 federal motor transport units, of which approximately 84% are freight trucks, positioning it as a strategic hub for national distribution, according to Ruiz.

Given this scenario, coordination between authorities and the private sector is emerging as the primary way to address the challenges. The DGAF emphasized that its collaborative work with Canacar continues through ongoing working groups, where key operational issues are reviewed and adjusted.

These measures include promoting service stations, training operators, and strengthening the regulatory framework, with the goal of improving the safety, efficiency, and competitiveness of road transport in the country , the official explained.

Thus, the start of the new state leadership takes place in an environment where the challenges are clearly defined and the demand is not only to represent the union, but to influence the conditions that determine its daily operation.

The representation of the trucking industry in the State of Mexico is being renewed at a time when operating on highways involves increasing pressure. Insecurity , overregulation, and rising costs are the main challenges that the new Board of Directors of the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) in the state will have to address.

In that context, Paulina Montserrat Muñoz Mortara took over as state delegate with a marked stance: the chamber must cease to be just a representative body and become an entity that listens and resolves.

“Today we make a commitment: to be a delegation that is approachable, a delegation that listens and a delegation that acts, that not only represents, but also solves problems,” he said during his swearing-in ceremony.

From her first address, the new delegate placed the transportation sector at the center of the agenda, particularly micro and small business owners , acknowledging that they face the greatest difficulties in their daily operations. She stated that her goal is to strengthen ties with the sector and build a more proactive representation to address its challenges.

The challenge is significant. Trucking handles over 80% of the country’s goods and more than 548 million tons annually , making it a pillar of the national economy, Muñoz noted.

At the state level, the relevance is even greater. The State of Mexico is consolidating its position as one of the country’s main logistics hubs, with a high concentration of goods flows and constant transit of cargo units.

In that sense, more than 1.2 million cargo vehicles travel along the Mexico-Queretaro highway each month, reflecting the operational intensity of the region, commented Augusto Ramos, national president of Canacar.

Furthermore, around 85,000 cargo units operate in the state , which illustrates the magnitude of the activity and the need to improve its conditions, he said.

Given this scenario, security remains the sector’s main enemy, along with the shortage of operators and the need to strengthen competitiveness, according to Ramos, who warned that the challenges lie outside the industry and require coordinated work.

“The enemy is not here, the enemy is out there, it’s called insecurity… it’s called a shortage of operators… it’s called conditions for the trucking industry to be more competitive,” he said.

In that regard, he stressed the importance of maintaining permanent working groups between authorities and the private sector , especially on issues of security, infrastructure and rest conditions for operators, such as comprehensive rest stops.

The approach also aims at professionalizing the sector , both in training current operators and in attracting new profiles to an activity that he described as “dignified and well-paid”.

The event was sponsored by Samsara , a technology company focused on operational and safety solutions for the trucking industry, which supported this day of the sector in the state.

For the new state leadership, the immediate challenge will be to translate these proposals into concrete actions. Their mandate involves not only representing the industry, but also influencing the public agenda in a state that, due to its location and volume of operations, is key to the movement of goods in Mexico.

In Muñoz’s words, the goal is to put the partner at the center, dignify the carrier and demonstrate that, with joint work, the sector can move towards better operating conditions.

The freight transport industry requires its managers to have multifactorial capabilities, where the focus should be on the productivity of the companies , but also on finding efficiencies through the incorporation of various tools, such as technology .

These capabilities were identified by Samsara ‘s “100 Fleet Operators to Watch in 2026” exercise , which recognizes fleet leaders who are transforming their organizations through the strategic use of technology.

In this second edition of the international ranking, six Mexican executives were included. According to Brendali López, Marketing Director of Samsara in Mexico, this growth is not a coincidence , but rather a reflection of an evolution in how Mexican leaders are understanding and using technology within their operations. “It’s not just about adopting technology, but about doing so with a clear vision of profound transformation, breaking paradigms, and demonstrating that disruption can come from any industry , in any country.”

The origin of the paper stems precisely from this logic. Samsara conceived this list as a mechanism to recognize leaders who are using technology as an enabler of structural change, beyond mere operational efficiency .

In the first edition of the list, Mexico was represented by Arturo Pinto , an executive at Flecha Amarilla , in the passenger transport segment. According to Brendali López, this initial recognition paved the way and helped to highlight that things were already being done differently in the Mexican market.

The inclusion of six Mexican leaders now reflects a combination of factors. On the one hand, there is a greater adoption of advanced technological solutions; on the other, a deeper understanding of how these tools can be used to solve each organization’s critical challenges. “It’s the intersection between the optimized use of technology and a very clear business vision ,” López said.

Brendali López, Marketing Director of Samsara in Mexico.

The selection criteria are not focused solely on hard metrics or company size, but rather on the executive’s role as a transformation agent. Samsara assesses how disruptive the leader’s vision is, how they address the main challenges of their operations, and how they leverage technology to turn structural problems into opportunities for change.

Leadership beyond the technological profile

A key element of the list is that not all the recognized executives come from information technology backgrounds. Some have clearly operational, security, or business management profiles. For example, there are leaders focused on security, where the use of technology has reduced incidents, activated preventative protocols, and transformed the organizational culture regarding road and asset security.

“What’s important isn’t where the leader comes from, but rather what their organization’s main challenge is and how they use technology to address it,” the Samsara executive emphasized. This broadens the pool of potential candidates and reinforces the idea that digital transformation in transportation isn’t exclusive to technical departments, but rather a cross-functional responsibility.

From Samsara’s perspective, working with these leaders doesn’t end with their inclusion in the paper . Because they are active clients, the relationship is maintained in an evolving way . Once a priority challenge—such as security, efficiency, visibility, or compliance—is resolved, the conversation shifts to the organization’s next strategic challenge.

This ongoing support has allowed Mexican clients to delve deeper into using the platform. According to Brendali López, after a market adjustment period like the one experienced in 2025, companies have focused more on maximizing the value of the tools they already have , rather than adding solutions without fully utilizing them.

One of the most visible changes has been the increased focus on after-sales services, training, and courses, with the goal of extracting greater operational value. This is complemented by the adoption of new features, such as the AI-powered assistant, which allows users to obtain operational information through natural language, making the platform more intuitive and accessible for different roles within the company.

Ecosystem that is becoming professionalized

The current market context has also contributed to greater maturity in decision-making. According to Samsara, dashboard cameras and basic telemetry tools are now perceived as essential elements of operation, not as disruptive innovations. Differentiation now lies in new functionalities and the ability of suppliers to innovate hand in hand with the customer .

In this sense, the “100 Fleet Operators to Watch in 2026” list acts as a catalyst. By highlighting success stories, it generates a positive ripple effect and motivates other industry leaders to question their own paradigms. “It becomes a virtuous cycle in which colleagues look at what others are doing and say: we can also be more disruptive,” López noted.

Furthermore, the growing presence of Mexican leaders in a global ranking helps strengthen the country’s reputation in logistics and transportation operations, placing them at the same level as executives from the United States or the United Kingdom.

Although Samsara doesn’t set numerical goals for how many Mexican leaders should appear in future editions, the expectation is clear: to continue driving these kinds of transformations . The list will continue to be published annually, and the work with clients—winners or not—will continue to focus on understanding their business challenges and supporting them in overcoming them.

“We are very proud of these six Mexican leaders who continue to break paradigms,” concluded Brendali López. Beyond the recognition, their participation in this paper confirms that digital transformation in Mexican transportation is no longer just aspirational rhetoric, but a reality that is beginning to resonate globally.

In an increasingly competitive and challenging environment for freight transport in Mexico, Fletes RGC ( a member of the Top 100 of Autotransport® ) has consolidated a strategy based on logistical innovation, the intensive use of technology and the strengthening of road and asset security , factors that today translate into greater operational efficiency, cost reduction and a better level of service for its customers.

Fletes RGC’s commitment to optimizing its internal processes and customer relationships is a constant endeavor, resulting in measurable progress by 2024. “One of the main focuses has been the redesign of its logistics operations, with a comprehensive approach that strengthened coordination between the areas involved in the service chain, from trip assignment to final delivery,” explained Kevin Salazar, Operations Manager at Fletes RGC.

The results of this approach are evident in operational efficiencies and a reduction in associated logistics costs , which translates into a significant improvement in customer satisfaction, particularly in delivery times and service quality. “This evolution is supported by more robust communication and close monitoring of each transaction ,” Salazar confirmed.

In parallel, the company advanced its logistics consulting model, offering personalized support to its clients to improve their transport planning and reduce inefficiencies.

Through collaborative technologies and shared management systems, Fletes RGC has achieved greater visibility and control of operations, reducing waste and costs. The ongoing use of KPIs, along with weekly and monthly evaluation meetings , allows for proactive adjustments that strengthen service levels.

Alongside technological developments, Fletes RGC strengthened its operational quality, which was complemented by improvements in support infrastructure and the incorporation of technologies for monitoring unit performance, as well as for managing and documenting preventive and corrective maintenance, both on and off base, meeting quality standards demanded by customers.

In a context where road safety remains one of the main challenges for the sector, Fletes RGC reinforced its asset security strategy by integrating advanced telemetry and cameras with artificial intelligence using Samsara .

“These systems allow real-time monitoring of driver behavior, detecting fatigue, distractions or cell phone use, as well as generating alerts for unauthorized stops, loss of signal or possible jammers, which immediately activates theft prevention protocols,” Salazar explained.

The company also established clear driving guidelines, reinforced adherence to designated safe stops and transit schedules, and conducted internal awareness campaigns focused on a culture of prevention, prioritizing anticipating risks rather than reacting to incidents. This strategy is complemented by increased collaboration with specialized security providers and the optimization of emergency response protocols .

These elements have allowed Fletes RGC to advance its digital transformation by integrating telemetry with dashcams and adopting solutions like Samsara Driver , which strengthen communication with drivers, route tracking, and the generation of evidence in traffic incidents. All of this has resulted in safer, more efficient operations that are aligned with current market demands .

Thus, Fletes RGC consolidates a value proposition based on constant innovation, applied technology, and robust safety processes , positioning itself as an actor that responds proactively to the challenges of modern road transport.

According to the company, one of the most significant changes was observed in its safety metrics. Aralo in Mexico increased its internal score by 164% , rising from 36 to 95, reflecting improvements in driving habits, operational compliance, and proactive risk management.

At the operational level, the reduction in risky behaviors was also significant. The company recorded a 60% decrease in distracted driving per hour , as well as a similar decrease in cell phone use per kilometer traveled, resulting from continuous fleet monitoring.

These advancements come at a time when operations face constant challenges such as operator fatigue, traffic, adverse weather conditions, and congestion in industrial areas. Furthermore, the company was looking to reduce indirect costs associated with incidents, such as cranes, downtime, and claims, explained Natalia Navarrete, Safety Manager for Operations in the United States at Grupo Aralo.

To address these challenges, Grupo Aralo implemented advanced telemetry solutions and dashboard cameras with artificial intelligence , first in its US operations and later in Mexico. This infrastructure enabled the identification of risky behaviors and strengthened preventative training programs based on real data.

Beyond security, digitalization also had an impact on operational efficiency. Between 2024 and 2025, trips in Mexico grew by more than 43% and kilometers traveled by 51%, while in the United States, increases of 44% in miles and more than 50% in trips were recorded, according to José Manuel Martínez, Risk Management Manager.

Overall, the company reported an increase of more than 50% in completed trips in Mexico and the United States in one year, suggesting greater utilization of the fleet without compromising safety.

Logistics operations in Mexico face increasing pressures that force companies to rethink the management of their fleets, in an environment where costs, insecurity and operational efficiency have become determining factors, explained Luis Larrea, senior regional manager of Field Engineering at Samsara Mexico.

At The Logistics World Summit & Expo , Larrea explained that eight out of every ten products consumed in the country are transported through the logistics sector , while 72% of the national economy depends on foreign trade , highlighting the importance of trucking to economic activity. However, this dynamism coexists with rising costs: fuel prices have increased by 16.7% , while insurance premiums have risen between 15% and 20%.

Adding to this context is the issue of insecurity. Between January and October 2025, 5,200 robberies were recorded on Mexican highways , according to data from Samsara, with estimated losses of between 7 and 10 billion pesos annually.

Given this scenario, technological adoption is becoming increasingly important. Currently, 48% of fleets already use artificial intelligence (AI) , although its implementation requires clear objectives and a defined strategy to generate value in operations.

One of the main challenges remains fuel, which can represent between 30% and 50% of operating costs . In this respect, even marginal reductions can translate into significant impacts on profitability.

Operational visibility is positioned as a key element. Tools such as telematics, process digitization, in-cab cameras with alerts , operator training programs, and monitoring systems allow for improved operational control, optimized routes, and more efficient cost management, Larrea explained.

In particular, measuring idling speed and fuel consumption becomes critical . Identifying unnecessary expenses, analyzing driving habits, and differentiating between productive and unproductive idling allows for performance improvements, cost reductions, and real-time operational visibility.

Concrete examples reflect these benefits. Companies like Potosinos have reported a 23% increase in delivery time productivity , as well as a 20% reduction in fuel leaks and a 7% reduction in operator turnover .

In terms of fleet utilization , monitoring key performance indicators—such as productive hours, unit usage, maintenance, and route management—allows for progress toward more efficient operations. This translates into reduced operating costs, fewer units out of service, and improved asset management.

In this process, AI is positioned as a cross-cutting enabler that impacts various areas of the operation. From operators, with vehicle inspections, document interpretation, and in-cab monitoring, to maintenance and administrative teams, where this technology facilitates route management, report generation, invoicing, and order tracking.

The benefits are also reflected in financial and safety indicators. One example is PROAN , which achieved an 80% reduction in freight collection time and a 64% decrease in speeding violations , in an operation with more than 450 vehicles and over 70 years of experience .

Larrea emphasized that the combination of technology, data, and discipline in measuring indicators is emerging as the path to strengthening efficiency, reducing costs, and improving the competitiveness of the trucking industry in Mexico .

In this context, Samsara presented the second annual edition of “100 Fleet Operators to Watch in 2026 ,” a recognition that highlights executives who are raising the bar in sectors such as transportation, construction, utilities, logistics, and field services . These are the people responsible for complex systems—from delivery trucks and heavy machinery to emergency vehicles—whose work often goes unnoticed because, when executed correctly, it simply allows everything to function.

Among the recognized profiles are Scott Amox ( Glazer’s Beer & Beverage ), Otis Anderson ( Jordan Carriers ), Raudel Arriaga ( Blue Rhino ), Reed Aubin (Sobeys), Alfredo Enríquez ( Transportadora San Juan Jr. ), Craig Rhoades (American Electric Power) and Steven Roberts (Deseret Transportation), among other leaders ( see full list ), responsible for critical operations.

Mexico gains presence on global list!

Eric Peñalver, deputy director of Grupo Express del Norte , was recognized from Mexico. He oversees cross-border and regional transportation operations. According to Samsara, his work focuses on strengthening fleet coordination, service reliability, and operational efficiency within a growing logistics network, contributing to maintaining solid standards in the movement of goods.

Julio Encinas, Director of Strategic Development, Quality and Engineering at Mexlog , was also recognized for driving operational improvements in a high-turnover freight transportation network. The award highlights his management’s efforts to strengthen coordination, visibility, and execution from dispatch to delivery, achieving significant reductions in emergency detection times and component theft incidents, while reinforcing safety and reliability standards in logistics operations.

Alfredo Enríquez, General Manager / Operations of Transportadora San Juan Jr. , was recognized by Samsara in the 2026 list for his leadership in operational management, strengthening efficiency, safety and service quality in a growing transportation network.

Also from Mexico, Samsara Hernán Guerra, Chief Information Officer of Trayecto , was recognized for driving digital transformation in fleet and cargo operations, incorporating artificial intelligence, machine learning and connected technology directly into vehicles to strengthen the visibility, efficiency and reliability of the movement of goods.

He was also recognized by Samsara Raúl Monroy Otero, Deputy Director General of TMS , for his leadership in operational safety and technological modernization, establishing clear goals for the reduction of accidents and strengthening the recruitment of operators, including the incorporation of more women in a context of talent shortage in the sector.

AI, from reactive to preventive

When renowned executives were asked about the biggest change the industry will face in the next three years, one theme was consistent: artificial intelligence (AI) is ceasing to be a complementary tool and becoming a structural part of the operation.

The leaders indicated they are moving toward preventative models, relying on solutions that not only analyze what happened but also guide the next steps to reduce risks and avoid disruptions. They are also seeking to consolidate technological platforms to spend less time managing isolated tools and more time monitoring operations.

However, they agreed that AI does not replace human judgment. It can identify patterns and alert to risks, but it doesn’t replace the experience of those who know their drivers, routes, and daily operations. The fleets that perform best are those that combine technological efficiency with operational knowledge.

In Mexico, new solutions for asset recovery

Alongside this global recognition, Samsara announced in Mexico its new generation of smart trackers: Asset Tag and Asset Tag XS , designed to strengthen the visibility and recovery of critical assets in physical operations.

The announcement comes at a time when cargo theft continues to pose a structural risk to the industry. According to the Mexican Association of Private Security and Satellite Industry Companies (Amesis), 71% of thefts reported in 2025 involved the use of signal jammers , reflecting a technological evolution in criminal methods.

The new devices incorporate artificial intelligence to detect assets at risk in real time, even in environments where traditional GPS signals are blocked. They generate automatic alerts when equipment becomes separated from its vehicle outside a reliable geofence and provide context about the last known location and associated vehicle, facilitating more efficient recovery decisions.

Asset Tag is designed for small tools and equipment and offers up to six years of maintenance-free battery life, 50% more than the previous generation. The ultra-compact Asset Tag XS allows you to track high-value hand tools, specialized gauges, or medical equipment, with up to three years of battery life and flexible mounting options.

In an environment where asset security and operational efficiency are crucial for competitiveness, the digitization and traceability of physical assets are becoming a strategic element to strengthen the resilience of transport and logistics in Mexico.

Grupo Flecha Amarilla reported a reduction in distracted driving behaviors after integrating Samsara ‘s Connected Operations Platform® into its operations, as part of a strategy focused on fleet monitoring, data analysis, and operator training.

According to the company, between 2024 and 2025 there was a 14% decrease in cell phone use while driving, after centralizing the operational information of more than two thousand vehicles on a single technological platform, which allowed for improved fleet visibility and real-time decision-making.

The industry context shows that distracted driving remains one of the main road risks. According to the report “The State of Connected Operations: Distracted Driving in Physical Operations ,” prepared by Samsara, 79% of commercial operators worldwide experienced at least one near miss in 2025 related to distractions. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that using a mobile phone while driving increases the likelihood of being involved in a traffic accident by up to four times.

Juan Pablo Martín Yamín, corporate commercial director of Grupo Flecha Amarilla, explained that before adopting the Samsara platform, operations were managed using four different systems. “We didn’t have a platform that integrated all the operational information,” he noted, which limited fleet visibility and real-time response.

As part of the implementation, Grupo Flecha Amarilla incorporated 1,600 telematics terminals and 1,600 dashboard cameras with artificial intelligence , integrated via API into Samsara’s Connected Operations Platform. In addition, critical alerts related to events such as unscheduled stops and door openings were automated, as well as door and temperature sensors for monitoring onboard conditions.

In the area of training, the company, which operates as a training center authorized by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) , adjusted its training programs based on real driving data. According to reports, this approach allowed them to move from a reactive to a preventative model, as well as automate monitoring processes and real-time notifications.

Ricardo Pinto, Planning and Operations Manager of Grupo Flecha Amarilla, indicated that the integration of the Samsara platform allowed them to reduce the operational load of the monitoring teams and improve the response capacity to incidents in daily operations.

For her part, Julia Monroy, regional sales director of Samsara, pointed out that the use of connected operations platforms seeks to address risks associated with road safety and fleet management in transportation.

The company emphasized that these changes are part of its efforts to strengthen the safety of operators and passengers, as well as to improve operational efficiency through the use of data and technology.
