The Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco-Servytur) estimated that around one million establishments and economic losses of between 1.5 billion pesos (mdp) and 2 billion pesos (mdp) , although these figures are still being tallied .

The impact would also have reached approximately 4.8 million people who work in these establishments in 24 states of the country, the agency detailed in a statement.

The Concanaco-Servytur stressed that events such as those that occurred on February 22 could cause temporary destabilization lasting weeks or months, and therefore called for maintaining clear channels of communication, paying attention to official information, and sustaining an institutional presence in the territory .

He noted that security is a practical condition for sustaining employment, investment, and local activity, and indicated that if criminal structures are weakened, there could be a 10% to 20% reduction in crimes such as extortion and other illicit acts in high-pressure areas.

“As an order of magnitude, this could represent up to 18,645 million pesos per year as a reduction in the cost of crime for companies (equivalent to 0.08% of the Gross Domestic Product), subject to official measurements and field verification,” he explained.

He pointed out that extortion directly affects operations: “charges, threats and conditions that force adjustments to schedules, reductions in inventory, cancellation of routes or halting investments , with effects on temporary closures, less hiring and higher protection costs.

According to the National Survey of Victimization of Companies (ENVE) 2024, prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , in 2023, extortion was the most frequent crime with 1,562 cases per 10,000 units, corresponding to 25.5% of the total crimes committed.

The violent events of February 22 also caused disruptions on highways , where blockades and vehicle burnings were reported, forcing the suspension of operations and the activation of internal protocols in the freight transport sector.

According to a logistics intelligence analysis by Overhaul , impacts were recorded on strategic routes such as the Guadalajara–Tepic highway (MEX-15D), the Guadalajara–Colima highway (MEX-80/MEX-54), the Mexico–Queretaro corridor (MEX-57D) and the Mexico–Puebla highway (MEX-150D), among other sections.

Various points in the northern, central, western and Bajío regions of the national territory were also affected .
