The Agency for Trains and Integrated Public Transport (ATTRAPI) launched the call for bids for the construction and design of 82 kilometers (km) of section II of the Querétaro-Saltillo train , Querétaro-San Luis Potosí section, San Miguel de Allende-Villa de Reyes subsection, chainage from km 68+000 to km 150+000.

According to the document, representatives from Holcim Mexico Operations , Calzada Construcciones, ICA Constructora , VISE , and GP Construcción were present during the first working visit .

In addition to China Communications Construction Company Mexico , Regiomontana de Construcción y Servicios, and Proveedora de Materiales del Norte.

The tender includes the construction of viaducts, tunnels, bridges, railway underpasses, railway overpasses and pedestrian bridges in Guanajuato , with the purpose of connecting the cities of Querétaro and San Miguel de Allende.

The agency specified that the first and second clarification meetings will be on October 13 and 31, respectively, while the submission of bids will be on October 2, and the decision will be announced on the same day.

According to ATTRAPI, the work will begin on November 2, 2026, with a completion time of 1,003 calendar days .

El cargo ATTRAPI launches tender for section II of the Querétaro-Saltillo train apareció primero en T21.

The production value of construction companies in May 2026 grew 2.7% on a monthly basis , while in its annual comparison it registered an increase of 7.5%, according to the results of the National Survey of Construction Companies (ENEC), prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

In the fifth month of the year, on a monthly basis, construction -related works , especially those in the private sector, increased by 0.7 percent. Water, irrigation, and sanitation increased by 14.3%, achieving its second consecutive month of strong performance.

Transport works , such as the construction of passenger trains, recovered in May 2026, with a monthly increase of 9.3%, after the drop last April.

Regarding the number of people employed  in the construction sector, Inegi reported a monthly increase of 0.8% and an annual increase of 0.3%.

Hours worked showed mixed performance in May 2026. This item showed a 0.5% increase on a monthly basis, but had a year-on-year decline of 0.1%, reflecting a slight deterioration in this indicator.

Meanwhile, average real wages performed well, increasing by 0.3% monthly and 3.3% annually, which improved the income of construction workers.

Construction is one of the sectors that contribute to economic growth and job creation in the country, derived from private and public projects, such as railway works (Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo train), and the Economic Development Poles for Well-being , which will promote the construction of industrial parks in several states of the country such as Hidalgo, Michoacán and Guanajuato, among others.

However, despite the rebound shown last May, construction, like other industries, faces a slow recovery, so investments in the sector are viewed with caution and uncertainty, generated by internal factors such as a weak economy, and external factors, such as the United States tariff measures and the conflict in the Middle East, which have increased the cost of some important inputs for this industry, including steel, aluminum and PVC pipes.

According to the National Chamber of the Housing Development and Promotion Industry (Canadevi) , the conflict in the Middle East has increased housing construction costs in Mexico by up to 5%.

El cargo Production value of construction companies, with solid foundations in May apareció primero en T21.

Grupo México Transportes (GMXT) reported a 14.3% increase in its total revenue during the second quarter of 2026 (2Q26) , and confirmed that it is looking to invest in the railway sector of Brazil and Argentina.

“We are analyzing different investment opportunities seeking to generate value for our shareholders; these opportunities include railway operations in Brazil through acquisition and in Argentina through the bidding of railway assets for rail freight movement,” the company stated.

He specified that in the case of Brazil there is the possibility of a stake in a relevant asset of the country, with a view to growing volumes in a diversified manner and improving efficiency .

For Argentina, he explained that they expect the corresponding tender to be launched, which, if it is a comprehensive model, could be attractive to the company , unlike the divided model ( open access ) that has proven to generate losses and require subsidies from the government and would not be of interest to Grupo México .

“Both offer a significant opportunity for increased volume transport by rail. With our 30 years of experience and advanced technologies, we could integrate them into the aforementioned rail networks and gain market share, higher volumes, and greater efficiencies,” he emphasized.

Regarding its Q2 2026 results, GMXT went from $853,221,000 to $975,238,000 year-on-year , growth that was mainly driven by the agricultural, intermodal and automotive segments.

According to the report sent to the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) , EBITDA reached $406 million 648 thousand in Q2 2026, an 8.3% increase year-on-year.

Meanwhile,  the cargo transported grew 7% compared to the same period in 2025, totaling 524,649 cars.

The increase in volume was led by the metals segment , with a 26% increase in cars, followed by intermodal which grew 12% and the agricultural segment with a 6% increase.

El cargo GMXT reports increased revenue in Q2 2026; seeks to invest in Brazil and Argentina apareció primero en T21.

The adoption of predictive maintenance schemes based on artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) will be fundamental to preventing failures, strengthening operational safety, optimizing spending on railway infrastructure and bolstering Mexico’s logistical competitiveness, said Tomás Allen, commercial vice president of Fracttal , a company specializing in the digital maintenance of equipment and physical assets.

“The rail infrastructure of the future cannot be managed solely through periodic inspections and manual reports. As the complexity of networks increases, the ability to anticipate failures using artificial intelligence will be a requirement to guarantee service continuity and the safety of millions of users,” Allen said.

Predictive maintenance combines IoT-connected sensors, cloud platforms, and AI algorithms capable of continuously monitoring the condition of tracks, turnouts, brakes, electrical equipment, and other critical assets.

With this information, it is possible to identify wear patterns , prioritize interventions, and reduce unscheduled downtime before it evolves into major failures, the specialist pointed out.

For the railway sector, this technological evolution also represents a financial decision , as various international operators have incorporated predictive maintenance strategies to improve the availability of their assets, reduce repair costs and strengthen operational safety, relying on advanced analytics and AI to process information generated by sensors installed in the infrastructure in this transport.

In Mexico, Tomás Allen pointed out, the challenge takes on a strategic dimension, since the federal government plans to build at least 2,377 kilometers of new railway lines during the six-year term , in addition to strengthening the Interoceanic Train and other railway systems.

“ In railway infrastructure, the cost of an unplanned failure is often several times the cost of a preventive intervention , considering operational disruptions, logistical impacts, asset repairs and safety risks,” Allen emphasized.

In addition to passenger transport, modernizing maintenance will be a key element in strengthening the country’s logistical competitiveness , since, he stated, a more reliable infrastructure favors the continuity of freight transport, reduces downtime and improves the use of public and private investments in a context where the railway is regaining prominence within supply chains.

Therefore, with the new generation of railway projects under development, he considered that the digitization of maintenance will cease to be a complementary tool and become an essential component of the operation.

Incorporating technologies, advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence from the early stages will protect long-term investments, strengthen operational security, and increase the resilience of an infrastructure that will be crucial for Mexico’s mobility and economic competitiveness.

El cargo Predictive maintenance will boost rail safety and efficiency: Fracttal apareció primero en T21.

The Mexican government has started the second stage of passenger train construction, whose works and tenders will be in charge of the Ministry of National Defense (Defensa) and the Agency of Trains and Integrated Public Transport (ATTRAPI) .

“We finished all the technical studies, basic engineering and demand studies and the Felipe Ángeles Engineering Group will execute the Irapuato-León, León-Guadalajara and we have already launched the international public tender because we want more participation and more bids for the first section that goes from Querétaro to San Miguel de Allende, which is the Querétaro-San Luis Potosí,” said Efraín Deschamps Gutiérrez de Velasco, director of Works at ATTRAPI.

He announced that next Monday they will launch the bidding process for the San Luis Potosí to Saltillo section, while they continue with the demand and pre-investment studies and basic engineering for the Mazatlán-Los Mochis section, although he clarified that he does not yet have an authorized start date.

During his participation in the XXV National Meeting of Land Transportation , organized by the Mexican Association of Land Transportation Engineering (AMIVTAC) which is taking place in Morelia, Michoacán, he reiterated that for these sections there will only be dedicated lanes, so ” there will be no interaction with freight lanes , nor level crossings; we have maximum speeds of 160 to 200 kilometers per hour.”

He also mentioned that the third phase, planned for approximately 1,100 kilometers, will cover the Pacific Corridor, specifically the Guadalajara-Tepic, Mazatlán-Los Mochis (currently under development with no start date for construction), Los Mochis-Guaymas, and Guaymas-Hermosillo sections. A potential fourth phase would include the Tepic-Mazatlán and Hermosillo-Nogales sections.

“ We are building an integrated national rail network, connected to other modes of transport . Each of the stations we are building also includes an integrated space for urban public transport. We want to consolidate a modern rail system,” emphasized Efraín Deschamps Gutiérrez de Velasco.

Regarding the first stage, he recalled that two sections are being built by the Felipe Ángeles Engineering Group, the Mexico-AIFA and AIFA-Pachuca, and Mexico-Queretaro, while ATTRAPI, through tenders, is building the Queretaro-Irapuato and Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo sections.

Regarding the Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo section, he said that it is the longest stretch that is already under construction and covers 396.34 kilometers from the Derramadero industrial zone to Nuevo Laredo.

The consortium led by Recal Estructuras won the bid for the construction and design of 9.204 kilometers (km) of the Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo passenger train, segment 15 “A2”, Monterrey Metropolitan Area.

Together with Constructora Moyeda, Construcciones Urales , Azvi, and Gami Ingeniería e Instalaciones, they were awarded a contract for 10 billion 438 million 249 thousand 060.02 pesos .

According to the tender ruling, the consortia led by Impulsora de Desarrollo Integral , as well as Proveedora de Materiales del Norte , and Tordec were rejected for not meeting the required requirements.

Meanwhile, along with Recal Estructuras, ICA Constructora and Constructora de Proyectos Viales de México complied with the requirements established by the Agency for Trains and Integrated Public Transport (ATTRAPI) .

The agency specified that the work will begin on May 1st and will have an execution period of 1,007 calendar days.

The Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo train is expected to improve regional connectivity in the Bajío region. This 18.06 km rail line will connect the Monterrey Metropolitan Area, passing through urban and rural areas, as well as industrial sites.

It is worth remembering that the overall  Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo train project consists of the construction of a 396.3 kilometer (km) railway line  that will have a double track section without electrification and will run at a maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hour (km/h).

El cargo A consortium led by Recal Estructuras will build a section of the Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo train apareció primero en T21.

The Suburban Train that currently runs from Buenavista to Cuautitlán, and which will reach the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) starting next Sunday , will be operated 100% by the Mexican government, after the purchase of shares from the concessionaire Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) , of Spanish origin; and Omnitren, of Mexico, for five billion 999.23 million pesos (mdp) .

Jorge Mendoza Sánchez, general director of the National Bank of Public Works and Services (Banobras) , specified that CAF had a shareholding of 43.4% and Omnitren of 7.6% of said transport system.

“With this, the Mexican State now has 100% of the shareholding in this train, that is, it passes from private hands to the hands of the people of Mexico,” he said during his participation in the morning conference this Thursday.

He stated that this train has become relevant for the current federal administration because it will connect the different passenger rail projects to the AIFA, as well as the AIFA-Pachuca and those in the north of the country that will pass through Querétaro.

He explained that the amount derives from the concession granted to both companies, as well as the evaluation carried out through the Institute of Administration and Appraisals of National Assets (Indaabin) , so the Suburban Train will also be a majority state-owned company.

Mendoza recalled that the Suburban Train began operations in 2008 and has seven stations running from Buenavista in Mexico City to Cuautitlán in the State of Mexico. Through the National  Infrastructure  Fund  ( Fonadin) , which held 49% of the shares before the agreement, resources totaling 11.201 billion pesos were allocated, along with financing from Banobras for 2.5 billion pesos (from 2005 to the present) .

“It was very important to reach an agreement with the companies so that the Mexican government could take control of the asset; we are going to ensure that this train is managed in the most efficient way,” Mendoza Sánchez said.

He specified that the train will be operated by Fonadin , which is also in charge of the El Insurgente train, which runs from Observatorio to Toluca. “We are creating a company that could take more control of these trains,” he noted.

Similarly, he announced that they will seek to make access to the system through the Integrated Mobility card , and that the fares will remain the same: short trip for 11.50 pesos and long trip for 26.50 pesos.

Meanwhile, for the expansion to AIFA, during its first month of operation it will have a promotional rate of 11.50 pesos and the full rate for 45 pesos , although it was estimated that it will be lower than other transports.

Claudia Sheinbaum, president of Mexico, explained that to avoid problems in the operation of the new trains, the decision was made to purchase the Suburban Train, which will be called “Felipe Ángeles ,” so that the network can be operated publicly.

El cargo Mexican government takes control of the Suburban Train; buys shares from CAF and Omnitren apareció primero en T21.

The federal government awarded the consortium headed by Comsa Infraestructuras  a contract for 2,890,971,095.04 pesos for the construction and design of four stations of the  Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo passenger train .

According to the tender award document, of the five proposals received by the Agency for Trains and Integrated Public Transport (ATTRAPI) , the winning bid was the only one that was solvent and met all the requested requirements.

Comsa Infraestructura formed the consortium with Regiomontana de Construcción y Servicios, Comsa, and Vise. Work will begin on April 27th , with a completion timeframe of 749 calendar days.

The agency highlighted that the 2026 allocation for this project amounts to 1,116 million 688 thousand 100.40 pesos.

The works encompass the construction and design of the  Derramadero, Saltillo, Ramos Arizpe and García stations .

Last February, ATTRAPI declared the bidding process for this project void, as it considered that none of the offers it received met all the requested technical and economic requirements.

The Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo train project involves the construction of a 396.3-kilometer (km) railway line, which will include a section of double track that is not electrified and will operate at a maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hour (km/h). It also includes the following stations and stops: Derramadero, Saltillo Centro, Ramos Arizpe, García, Las Torres, Salinas Victoria, Bustamante, Lampazos, Anáhuac, and Nuevo Laredo.

It is worth remembering that Recal Estructuras , Construcciones Urales , Gami Ingeniería e Instalaciones, Azvi and Constructora Moyeda were the companies that won the construction and design of 8.854 km of this same project in segment 15 “A1”, Monterrey Metropolitan Area.

ATTRAPI also launched tenders for this project for the construction and design of the General Escobedo, Salinas Victoria, Villaldama, Lampazos de Naranjo, Anáhuac and Nuevo Laredo stations; the deadline for submitting proposals is May 12.

Also, on April 29th, the decision will be made for the tender for the construction and design of the Zica Derramadero railway auxiliary buildings, García Workshops and Garages, Las Torres inspection zone, Salinas Victoria maintenance base and Zica Nuevo Laredo.

Meanwhile, the next April 24th will be for the construction and design of the railway systems, and the 21st of the same month for the construction and design of 9,204 km, segment 15 “A2”, Monterrey Metropolitan Area.

The Agency for Trains and Integrated Public Transportation (ATTRAPI)  received six bids as part of the construction and design of 9.204 kilometers (km) of the Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo passenger train, segment 15 “A2”, Monterrey Metropolitan Area.

According to the document, the consortium made up of Impulsora de Desarrollo Integral , Jaguar Ingenieros Constructores , Cargo Energía, Ingeniería y Construcción, Proacon México, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Construcciones Aldesem , submitted the lowest offer with nine billion 278 million 429 thousand 324.98 pesos .

The consortium made up of Tordec , Proyectos y Desarrollos Salve, ZITUM Desarrolladores, and Proyectos y Estudios Ferroviarios, offered the highest bid at 11 billion 89 million 475 thousand 533.02 pesos .

Constructora de Proyectos Viales de México, Caabsa Constructora and Obrascon Huarte Lain (OHL) proposed 11 billion 13 million 703 thousand 496.79 pesos.

The consortium made up of ICA Constructora , Desarrolladora de Infraestructura Puerto Escondido; Controladora de Operaciones de Infraestructura, Compañía Hidroeléctrica La Yesca , ICA Edificio Satélite, Constructora El Cajón, Entia de México, Desarrollo y Construcciones Urbanas, Constructora Garza Ponce, Construcciones y Trituraciones and ICA Constructora de Infraestructura, submitted a proposal of 10 billion 700 million 291 thousand 890.35 pesos.

Meanwhile, Proveedora de Materiales del Norte, Rubau México , González Soto y Asociados, ASCH, Construcciones y Maquinaria SEF, ASCH Infraestructuras y Servicios and ASCH Infraestructuras y Servicios, Agencia en Chile, submitted a bid of nine billion 917 million 991 thousand 547.57 pesos.

Finally, Recal Estructuras , Constructora Moyeda, Construcciones Urales, AZVI, and Gami Ingeniería e Instalaciones, proposed 10 billion 438 million 249 thousand 060.02 pesos.

ATTRAPI detailed that  the project includes the construction of a double railway track , the elevated stations of González Garza and Monterrey Centro, as well as the studies necessary for the correct preparation and authorization of the executive project, among other works.

The agency has set  May 1st as the start date for the work , with a completion timeframe of 1,007 calendar days. It specified that  it has allocated 1,701,168,857.41 pesos  for this project this year.

The agency will announce the winner of this contest on April 17th.

The  Agency for Trains and Integrated Public Transportation (ATTRAPI) launched the call for bids for the construction and design of six railway stations for the Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo passenger train.

According to the document, these are the stations General Escobedo, Salinas Victoria, Villaldama, Lampazos de Naranjo, Anáhuac and Nuevo Laredo .

“The work will be carried out under a continuous management scheme ( fast track ), starting construction in stages as portions of the executive project are completed, without waiting to have the project completed in its entirety, which implies that work can begin as long as the construction elements of the work to be carried out do have the corresponding executive project,” the agency specified.

ATTRAPI highlighted that Salinas Victoria, Villaldama and Lampazos de Naranjo are old stations with historical value  cataloged by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) , so the winner must consider the materials, specialized personnel, tools, equipment, temporary installations and other elements required for their correct execution, in accordance with the guidelines and authorizations issued by this institute.

“The winning bidder will be responsible for coordinating with the competent authorities for the initiation, management, monitoring and conclusion of all necessary procedures, the preparation of studies, reports, executive project and the execution of rescue and salvage actions, as well as for carrying out the corresponding works, within the deadlines established by the agency,” he explained.

The agency specified that the presentation and opening of proposals for this project will be on April 21, and that day the date on which the decision will be made will be announced .

Similarly, he indicated that the start date for the work will be May 21, 2026, with a deadline for the execution of the work of 558 calendar days .
