Querétaro ‘s strategic location and the arrival of new investments maintain the state’s economic dynamism; however, one of the challenges will be to attract not only operations but also the corporations from which business decisions are made.

The state’s commercial activity reflects this growth. According to the Ministry of Economy , Querétaro’s exports reached $18.225 billion in June 2026 , a figure that demonstrates the state’s participation in foreign trade and the logistical needs that accompany the movement of goods.

According to Carlos Alberto Canseco Talavera, director of the Querétaro Logistics Innovation Cluster (CILQRO) , there is still a concentration of these decisions in the country’s main cities, particularly in Mexico City.

“It’s not just about money coming in, but also about those who are already investing continuing to do so,” Canseco commented.

Clustering accompanies growth

In this scenario, collaboration between companies and other actors is presented as a tool to strengthen the region’s logistical capabilities.

Canseco explained that CILQRO’s objective is to strengthen logistics chains , primarily for companies in Querétaro, but also for those in the Bajío region and throughout the country. Furthermore, it maintains alliances with clusters in Mexico and the United States to promote the professionalization of the sector.

“It’s about providing solutions to the industry from within the industry,” he said, adding that the experience of those who have already faced certain challenges can contribute to the development of solutions and improvements in productivity.

According to Canseco, clustering requires the participation of five components: industry, government, academia, society, and funding . He considered the latter essential for initiatives to be implemented.

One example is the logistics diploma program promoted by the cluster. According to Carlos Canseco, the first cohort had 54 graduates and the second 74, while he estimates around 94 for the next one.

The program is free for participants through sponsorships from companies within the organization.

Furthermore, he considered the prospects for Querétaro favorable given the arrival of companies and the generation of jobs.

“Querétaro continues its growth boom ,” he stated, highlighting Querétaro’s position within the country’s transportation flows, noting that Highway 57 and its location mean that a significant portion of the goods traffic has to pass through the state.

SIG , a packaging company for the food and beverage industry, announced the opening of a new Business Services Center (BSC) in Querétaro, as part of its growth strategy in the Americas .

“It was just in April that we announced the expansion of our production plant here in Querétaro. Now we are inaugurating a new Business Services Center, reaffirming our confidence in local talent and the infrastructure available in Mexico, and strengthening our operations to be more agile and efficient,” highlighted Ricardo Rodríguez, president of the Americas region of SIG.

The new facility includes the transition of key processes to strengthen operational capacity in the region.

The launch of the BSC for the Americas reflects SIG’s strong commitment to driving long-term growth, innovation, and scalable development throughout the region.

The facilities have been designed to offer greater efficiency, consistency in processes and smooth scalability , by centralizing critical expertise and standardizing regional operations, the company said in a statement.

“I would like to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to making this vision a reality. This achievement is the result of teamwork, dedication, and the conviction that, together, we can create something meaningful and lasting,” highlighted Samuel Salgado, director of the SIG Business Services Center in Querétaro.

With this infrastructure, SIG plans to consolidate the center as a strategic partner for its general operations that will generate quantifiable value throughout the region.

“By opening these doors today, we are creating opportunities for growth, training the leaders of the future, and laying a solid foundation that will support our region for many years to come,” Salgado said.

The new complex represents GIS’s second Business Services Center worldwide and will serve as a support hub for South America, North America, and Central America.

The center will generate approximately 60 new direct jobs and will serve the Americas, supporting the region’s continued growth.

In 2025, SIG produced around 54 billion packages and generated 3.2 billion euros in revenue, according to data from the company itself.

Querétaro continues to attract manufacturing investments . Koblenz announced an investment of over 1.5 billion pesos (MXN) to strengthen its production capabilities in the state through new facilities in the Bernardo Quintana Industrial Park , a project that includes more than 100,000 additional square meters of industrial infrastructure, the company reported in a statement.

The company —responsible for designing, manufacturing and marketing household and industrial products— indicated that the resources will be allocated over the next three years as part of a strategy to expand and modernize its operations in Mexico , to increase its manufacturing capacity and broaden its presence in white goods categories.

According to the firm, the new facilities will practically double its current production footprint and will be focused on strengthening infrastructure, technological integration and operational efficiency of its processes.

In addition to the growth in installed capacity, the project seeks to consolidate Koblenz’s presence in segments such as refrigeration and automatic washing machines through the incorporation of new technological platforms, engineering and advanced manufacturing.

“For decades, Koblenz has built a relationship of trust with millions of Mexican consumers. Today we begin a new stage with a modern, ambitious vision focused on the future,” said Luis Dorador, CEO of Koblenz.

The company explained that the expansion is part of a transformation and modernization process aimed at strengthening its technological and manufacturing capabilities , as well as generating new opportunities for regional and international growth.

Regarding the decision to establish this project in Querétaro , Luis Dorador highlighted that the state was selected for its infrastructure, availability of technical talent, and strategic connectivity.

“Querétaro was selected for its relevance as one of the most important industrial ecosystems in the country, as well as its infrastructure, technical talent, and strategic connectivity. The arrival of new investments and the expansion of companies continue to strengthen Querétaro’s position as one of the country’s main logistics and industrial hubs.

During a business event, Mauricio Kuri, governor of Querétaro, highlighted that the state maintains a positive dynamic in attracting private capital thanks to factors such as its strategic location, infrastructure, security and availability of specialized talent.

The state governor pointed out that, despite the economic challenges facing both businesses and the country, Querétaro continues to register investment announcements that contribute to job creation and regional development.

“Thank you for trusting in Querétaro,” Kuri said, referring to the business owners who continue to invest in the state to expand their operations.

According to the governor, several investment announcements have been finalized in recent days . Among them, he highlighted a water infrastructure project worth three billion pesos (MXN) and expected to create 800 jobs, as well as a commercial investment of nearly one billion pesos (MXN) that will generate around one thousand jobs.

Kuri stated that the state’s economic growth is closely linked to business activity and maintained that employment continues to be the most effective tool for promoting social development.

Querétaro ended the first quarter of 2026 with 1.2 million people employed, that is, 11,000 more compared to the same period in 2025, according to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE) prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

“I envision a Mexico where there are fewer and fewer beneficiaries and more and more entrepreneurs. A Mexico where origin is not destiny,” he commented.

He also highlighted that one of Querétaro ‘s main competitive strengths is the quality of its human capital, a factor that, he assured, has allowed the state to consolidate itself as an attractive destination for new industrial, manufacturing and logistics investments.

The governor added that the state administration seeks to maintain favorable conditions for businesses through services, support, and infrastructure projects that will sustain the region’s economic growth .

Amid growing trade uncertainty between the United States and China, as well as the review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) , Querétaro seeks to position itself as one of the country’s main logistics, industrial and technological hubs.

At the conference “Economic Perspectives for Investment and Strengthening the Supply Chain” at the GOMSA 2026 Event , Genaro Montes Díaz, Undersecretary of Economic Development of Querétaro, stated that Mexico is facing a decisive moment in trade and that the review of the agreement with the United States and Canada will force companies to strengthen traceability, knowledge of their supply chains and communication between operational, logistics and foreign trade areas.

“The United States wants to know where the goods come from, what the DNA of the products is, and how the value chains are integrated,” he said.

During his participation, Montes Díaz explained that the international environment has changed radically since the pandemic and the trade war between the United States and China , which accelerated processes such as nearshoring (relocation of production lines) and the regionalization of production chains.

He recalled that many companies moved their production to China for decades because of the low manufacturing costs; however, factors such as technological restrictions, the pandemic and the semiconductor crisis highlighted the vulnerability of depending on distant supply chains.

“What we are seeing today did not begin with the pandemic. Regionalization already existed, but the pandemic made evident the need to bring production closer to consumer markets,” he commented.

In that context, he warned that the review of the USMCA will be marked by three major issues: the traceability of goods, the rules of origin, especially in steel and aluminum, and the rapid response labor mechanisms.

Querétaro is betting on technology, logistics and talent

The undersecretary highlighted that Querétaro has built an industrial strategy based on diversification and specialization over decades , evolving from the food industry to sectors such as automotive, aerospace, medical devices, data centers and advanced technologies.

Currently, he said, the state concentrates about 75% of the data centers installed in Mexico , in addition to having a strategic geographical position in the center of the country, logistical infrastructure and a network of more than 130 public and private universities.

“Querétaro does not represent even 1% of the national territory, but it has become one of the most competitive and safe states in the country,” he stated.

Montes Díaz highlighted the growth of the Querétaro International Airport as a logistics hub, driven by both passenger traffic and the increase in air cargo, as well as the presence of operations by companies such as UPS and Mercado Libre .

He also emphasized the importance of the aerospace sector in the state, stating that Querétaro is one of only three places in the world where aircraft engines are manufactured , along with France and the United States.

One of the central messages of the conference was the need for Mexican companies to strengthen the integration between production, logistics, purchasing and foreign trade to respond to new international requirements.

The official warned that many companies still operate with fragmented information, making it difficult to prove the true origin of products and comply with the standards that the United States will require.

“If production areas do not share information with logistics and foreign trade, companies will be at a competitive disadvantage,” he warned.

Therefore, he insisted that talent development, digitalization, collaboration between academia, government and industry, and the strengthening of local suppliers will be fundamental to facing the new stage of international trade.

A complex scenario for Mexico

Montes Díaz also addressed the macroeconomic challenges facing the country, including the uncertainty generated by U.S. trade policies, tariff volatility, and the recent reduction in Mexico’s credit rating.

Even so, he considered that the country maintains important advantages thanks to its integration with the US market, which represents the destination of more than 80% of Mexican exports .

“Mexico has a huge opportunity, but we have to prepare. We can’t stop it from raining, but we can put on our umbrellas before the storm,” he stressed.

Siemens announced an investment of 1.3 billion pesos (MXN) to expand its production capacity in Querétaro . The capital will be used to strengthen advanced manufacturing operations within the state and is expected to create 300 new direct jobs in the region.

“Querétaro has become a key pillar for Siemens globally. This investment not only expands our production capacity, but also strengthens our position to support our customers in their transition to more digital, sustainable, and resilient industries,” emphasized Alejandro Preinfalk, CEO of Siemens Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.

This figure, which adds to the more than 1.8 billion pesos previously announced, brings the company’s total investment in the state to over 3 billion pesos in the last year. The expansion will contribute, among other things, to optimizing production processes , reducing delivery times, and advancing the company’s decarbonization goals.

The announcement was made during the Hannover Messe industrial fair in the presence of Stephan May, CEO of Electrification and Automation at Siemens AG; Alejandro Preinfalk; Marco Antonio Del Prete, Secretary of Sustainable Development of Querétaro ; and Felipe Fernando Macías, Municipal President of Querétaro.

Siemens’ operations in the state are focused on manufacturing technological solutions for industrial electrification. Its main activities include the production of panels and control systems for low- and medium-voltage applications , components that supply the demand of industrial sectors such as automotive and food and beverage.

Siemens Group reported global revenues of €78.9 billion for fiscal year 2025, which ended September 30 of last year, and net profit of €10.4 billion for the same period. The company currently employs 318,000 people worldwide in its continuing operations.

The rapid development of data centers, particularly those intended for artificial intelligence (AI) workloads , is positioning Mexico as a strategic market in Latin America, but it is also revealing deep gaps in energy supply, engineering capabilities, and supply chain readiness.

Turner & Townsend ‘s Data Centre Construction Cost Index 2025-2026 warns that 2026 will be a turning point for the industry, driven by the transition to high-density architectures and the increasing use of liquid cooling, a technology that is not yet fully available in the domestic supply chain.

The survey included in the report reveals that 83% of industry experts do not believe that supply chains in Mexico are ready to support the advanced cooling technologies required by next-generation data centers.

The energy challenge is at the heart of the debate. According to Turner & Townsend, energy availability is now the main risk factor for delivering projects on time and within budget, in a context where delays in connecting to the electrical grid have become increasingly frequent.

In this regard, according to Diana Vázquez Castañeda, Energy and Sustainability Coordinator of the Mexican Association of Private Industrial Parks (AMPIP) , the association has 477 industrial parks in 28 states and 103 new parks under construction have been identified, aligned with the federal government’s Mexico Plan.

To highlight the problem, the AMPIP executive pointed out that, to operate by the end of 2025, the parks required between 13 and 15 GW of additional installed capacity and warned that, although 90% of the parks operate within the regulated market, the country’s transmission and distribution infrastructure has critical areas for improvement.

“The strategy we need to meet these energy needs is tremendous. The national infrastructure is not growing at the same pace as our needs,” he said.

Scania Mexico announced the relocation of its Bus Quality Assurance Center (BBMQA) to the Innovation Technology Park in El Marqués, Querétaro , as part of its strategy to expand and improve its customer service.

“The bus market in Mexico today demands high-tech products and increasingly robust quality processes. With this relocation, we strengthen our ability to support customers with reliable solutions, from the chassis to the ready-to-operate vehicle,” highlighted Alejandro Mondragón, president and CEO of Scania Mexico.

The new facility has a surface area of ​​two thousand square meters (m²), which will allow for increased assembly capacity . With this infrastructure, up to five pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) focused on buses can be carried out daily, reinforcing quality control of chassis and the final product, the company explained in a statement.

The location of the Innovation Technology Park offers logistical and operational advantages by concentrating quality assurance, assembly and PDI activities in one place; which would facilitate coordination with bodybuilders, partners and actors in the value chain.

Gisela Quintero, Director of Customer Experience and Service at Scania Mexico, indicated that the Quality Assurance Center for Buses is a key link in the service network .

“In this way, we will deliver more products that meet expectations in terms of safety, comfort, and availability. When we say that Scania is committed to the customer experience, we are talking about decisions like these—that is, investments in infrastructure, processes, and people so that the promise we make is fulfilled in every unit,” he emphasized.

For his part, Néstor Lara, director of People Transport Solutions at Scania Mexico, said that this new facility increases the capacity to work with bodybuilders and ensures that each bus is ready to generate value from the first kilometer .

In 2024 alone, Scania delivered 96,443 trucks, 5,626 buses, and 11,170 industrial and marine propulsion systems. The company operates in more than 100 countries with 59,000 employees and production facilities in several regions. In Mexico, it has more than 1,000 employees, 17 branches, and over 60 service points .

El cargo Scania Mexico relocates its Bus Quality Assurance Center to Querétaro apareció primero en T21.

QUERÉTARO, QRO. – With the review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on the horizon and an increasingly competitive international environment, Mexico must prepare itself with intelligence, coordination, and a long-term vision to strengthen its position in North America , specialists agreed at the panel “ Connecting Markets: Disruptive Strategies for Successful Trade . ”

The meeting, held within the framework of the XXXI Mexican Foreign Trade Congress , organized by the  Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (Comce Nacional) , put on the table the issues that will mark the Mexican trade agenda towards 2026: subnational diplomacy, tariff policy, regional competitiveness, talent and technological transition .

States, key in the USMCA review

Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, head of the  Secretariat of Sustainable Development of Querétaro , stressed that state governments play a strategic role in strengthening production chains and economic diplomacy.

“We are promoting regional integration in eight areas of the country, the development of suppliers, and the professionalization of public officials in foreign trade,” he emphasized.

The official recalled that the 32 heads of economic development recently met at the invitation of the Ministry of Economy , headed by Marcelo Ebrard, to define state contributions in preparation for the treaty review.

“Each state must contribute what makes it strong; the country is diverse, and in that diversity lies our strength,” he stated.

For his part, Kenneth Smith , president of the Mexico-United States Bilateral Business Committee of Comce and partner of AGON , warned that, although the USMCA does not automatically contemplate a renegotiation, there are clear signs from Washington that point towards a deep review under the new US administration.

“Mexico must be ready for an administrative review or even a partial renegotiation. The private sector can support the government with information and proposals in bilateral consultations,” he explained.

Smith considered it would be “ideal to reach the review process in 2026 without tariff pressures” and acknowledged the importance of aligning trade and security policies to maintain the principle of free trade.

“Mexico’s position must be clear: to maintain free and competitive trade that strengthens North American production chains in the face of China,” he stressed.

Automotive sector: an example of regional success

For Francisco González Díaz , executive president of the National Auto Parts Industry (INA) , the auto parts sector is the best reflection of the success of integration in North America.

“The future of the sector is extraordinary. Electromobility, artificial intelligence, and added value will redefine automotive manufacturing, and Mexico is ready to lead that transition,” he stated.

González revealed that INA works with the World Bank , Bancomext and the Mexican Association of Private Industrial Parks (AMPIP)  to train suppliers and certify companies, with an emphasis on technical talent and micro-credentials.

“It’s no longer just about assembling, but about designing and developing technologies. Today, Mexico is part of the global innovation ecosystem,” he noted.

For his part, Del Prete maintained that education is the foundation of economic development.

“We train more than five thousand engineers a year in Querétaro. The challenge is to move from ‘pressing the button’ to designing it. Only then will we be competitive,” he commented.

The official highlighted that Querétaro is committed to new industries, such as aerospace, data centers and space , with a focus on sustainability and technological innovation.

“We want innovation, logistics, supplier development and environmental care to be part of a new stage: moving from local pride to global leadership,” he added.

Regarding tariff policy, Kenneth Smith warned that raising generalized tariffs can cause more harm than good.

“We must use precision-firing tools – such as anti-dumping measures – and not a ‘shotgun blast’ that affects allied countries like Korea or Brazil,” he explained.

He also proposed moving towards a trilateral trade defense policy and regulatory convergence to address unfair practices in a coordinated manner.

Proactive agenda for USMCA 2.0

Smith outlined four strategic lines that Mexico could promote during the review:

1. Sectoral trilateral cooperation in areas such as food, medical equipment and ICT.
2. Joint regulation in artificial intelligence.
3. Acceleration of renewable energies.
4. Real boost to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through mirror financing in the three countries.

González Díaz, in turn, warned that although the term nearshoring has lost prominence, it will return when there is political and regulatory certainty.

“We must prepare ourselves with talent, infrastructure, energy, and legal certainty. If we achieve that, Mexico will be the big winner of this industrial reconfiguration,” he asserted.

The panel made it clear that Mexico faces a crucial juncture: shifting from a defensive stance to a proactive agenda that solidifies its role as a strategic partner in North America. With education, innovation, coordination, and certainty, the country could not only navigate the USMCA renegotiation but also strengthen its industrial leadership on the world stage.

QUERÉTARO, QRO.- The  Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (Comce) kicked off the 31st Mexican Foreign Trade Congress in Querétaro , which, according to Oscar Peralta, president of Comce Querétaro, is a meeting that brings together the voices, ideas and wills that drive the country’s economic development.

During his participation, Peralta highlighted that, with this congress, Querétaro reaffirms its role as a fundamental axis of Mexican foreign trade.

“It is a meeting point where knowledge is shared, alliances are generated, and the future of our country is projected to the world,” he said.

For his part, Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, head of the  Secretariat of Sustainable Development of Querétaro , highlighted the importance of the state as the venue for the congress, since “we want the businesses that are done in Querétaro to benefit Mexico . “

“It is also a way to demonstrate that we can coordinate and align ourselves with the Mexico Plan and link up to strengthen our exports, thereby boosting the economic growth and foreign trade of our country,” he added.

Valentín Diez Morodo , honorary president of Comce, highlighted that Querétaro is distinguished by its productive investment, innovation, and talent.

“Today, Querétaro has become an example for the entire Mexican Republic,” he emphasized.

Furthermore, he pointed out that, since the first congress, organized in 1993 by Comce, a privileged space has been created to unite the most important sector of the national economy, which today represents 75% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) , namely foreign trade.

“After 31 years, we maintain our ambition intact: to promote the growth of Mexico’s foreign trade, which not only moves products, but also builds bridges and positions us as the tenth largest exporting economy in the world,” he emphasized.

He acknowledged that today Mexico faces significant challenges that require adapting to the new world trade order with resilience and innovation ; in addition to strengthening supply chains.

Furthermore, he urged attendees to continue integrating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into production chains, as they are the engine of professional prosperity for exporting companies.

“This forms part of the foundation upon which the integration of Mexico’s manufacturing industry with global production chains is being consolidated. For this reason, this year our congress is dedicating a very special space to the Made in Mexico business forum , to recognize its contribution and promote new opportunities for international development,” he emphasized.
