In the report of results of the Quarterly Exports by Federative Entity (ETEF) , the organization highlighted that Chihuahua, with 13.9%, Coahuila, with 11.9%, Baja California, with 10.6%, Nuevo León, 10.5%, and Guanajuato and Tamaulipas, with 6.6% each, contributed 60.2% of the total value of exports in said period.

In Nuevo León , they totaled $15.1955 billion , representing an annual increase of 6.6 percent.

Tamaulipas reported a contribution of $9.6 billion to Mexican exports , a 10.8% annual increase. Guanajuato , meanwhile, had exports of $9.526 billion , although they fell 2.5% compared to the fourth quarter of 2023.

The remaining states recorded exports totaling $57.471 billion during the last quarter of last year, representing a 3.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

INEGI (National Institute of Statistics and Geography) specified that by economic activity sector, in the October-December 2024 quarter, manufacturing accounted for 91% of the total value of state exports. It was followed by mining (oil and non-oil), with 5.9% , and the agricultural sector, with 3.1% .

On an annual basis, the value of state exports increased 5.6 percent . By economic sector, manufacturing exports increased 6.5 percent and agricultural exports increased 3 percent . Mining exports decreased 5.6 percent .

The manufacturing sector’s exports stand out for their largest annual variation in Zacatecas, Nayarit, Jalisco, Morelos, and Yucatán; agricultural exports in Guerrero, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Colima, and Michoacán; and mining exports in Zacatecas, Sinaloa, Sonora, Coahuila, and Guerrero.

Within the states, exports from the manufacturing sector predominated, with the exception of Baja California Sur, Guerrero, Campeche, Tabasco, Michoacán, Chiapas, Zacatecas, and Sinaloa. Within these states, exports from the mining (oil and non-oil) and agricultural sectors were prominent.

In terms of their contribution to the value of total exports, transportation equipment manufacturing stood out in the manufacturing sector in the fourth quarter of 2024 , representing 38.9% of the total value. This was followed by the manufacturing of computing, communications, measuring, and other electronic equipment, components, and accessories , with 17.8% , and the manufacturing of accessories, electrical appliances, and power generation equipment , with 6.1% .

Mining, oil, and gas extraction contributed 3.8 percent . Agricultural subsector exports accounted for 2.9 percent . Together, these five subsectors accounted for 69.5 percent of the states’ total exports.

According to INEGI (National Institute of Statistics and Geography), exports by state closed out 2024 on the rise, marking five quarters of annual increases . Meanwhile, the northern states of Mexico maintained their lead in exports during the fourth quarter of last year.

However, this increase could be affected by the uncertainty generated by the imposition of tariffs that Donald Trump , President of the United States, is seeking to implement on various products from Mexico and other countries, which would lead to a decrease in sales abroad, especially to the country’s northern neighbor, the main buyer.
