QUERÉTARO, QRO.- TRUMPF México , a company specializing in machines, tools and laser technology, has focused its efforts on self-sufficiency, which it considers a strategy to improve its operations and the quality of its products, as well as making deliveries in the shortest possible time, for which it relies on an efficient logistics system.

“We have a policy that we must manufacture over 80% of the components ourselves to be practically self-sufficient. So, based on that principle, we manufacture frames, for example, made of metal for our stations, which we cut, bend, and drill ourselves,” explained José Magaña, Sales Representative for TRUMPF’s Laser Technology Division for Central and Bajío Regions of Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America.

For shipments to various parts of the world, the German-based company relies on three logistics service providers and customs agencies to manage imports and tax regulations.

Magaña noted that the main distribution ports in Mexico are Altamira, Tamaulipas, and Veracruz , while smaller equipment can be shipped by air to international airports.

He shared that the manufacturing of its machines is concentrated in Europe, mainly in Germany and Switzerland , and the products are shipped to America according to demand.

On the other hand, he indicated that delivery of his machines varies between eight weeks for the smallest, and up to 20 weeks for the largest, although each order begins with the construction of the equipment.

“The equipment begins manufacturing when the purchase order comes in. We don’t keep stock because the variety of options available in each application makes the equipment unique. That’s when the delivery time starts,” Magaña said.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company said the supply chain faced challenges due to shortages of microchips and electronic components, which caused deliveries to take up to twice the estimated time. The company implemented a follow-up distribution system, shipping equipment with missing parts and completing installation at the customer’s site.

In Mexico, the company has a facility in Monterrey, Nuevo León, where certain components are assembled. There are 150 employees there , approximately 100 of whom are in production . TRUMPF has a warehouse and service center in Mexico City, while it has a distribution center in Querétaro.

At a seminar held at its Querétaro facilities , the company unveiled its latest equipment, designed to support production processes linked to electric mobility.

Among the machines presented are the TruFiber P family, developed for welding complex materials such as copper and aluminum. Also featured is the TruMicro system, which offers extremely precise cutting and drilling in sensitive materials.

Among other equipment, TRUMPF displayed parts that can be built using its machinery, ranging from object engraving to automobile chassis manufacturing.
