With an investment of 216 million pesos (mdp) , Marcelo Ebrard, head of the Ministry of Economy (SE) , gave progress on the Economic Development Pole for Well-being (Podebi), Bajío Industrial Park, in Zinapécuaro , with which it is sought to reindustrialize this region.

Ebrard indicated that the formalization phase is complete and that the investment will be allocated to public works, primarily hydraulic and logistical infrastructure such as road and rail access . He specified that the private investment will amount to 2.71 billion pesos .

“This is starting now, the hydraulics are already working and the other works will be completed in March and April,” the federal official stated at the morning press conference this Friday, held in Michoacán, where he specified that the project covers an area of ​​333 hectares.

He announced that in May, chambers of commerce and industry from several countries will visit the industrial park, which he will use as an opportunity to promote investment. He also announced that on February 16, Canadian officials, accompanied by representatives from 231 companies, will arrive in Mexico to be presented with the park as an investment opportunity.

At the event, he highlighted that investment promotion committees have already been established in Uruapan, Lázaro Cárdenas and Apatzingán , in addition to working on trademark and patent registrations to strengthen the competitiveness of local products in international trade, such as avocados.

“We are organizing, we have already held trade fairs, but for the second half of the year we will have a presence from Michoacán in the United States, we are going to tour several points in the United States,” he said.

According to the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) , this hub occupies a geostrategic position within the central-western economic corridor of Mexico. It borders Guanajuato, allowing it to be integrated into a dynamic economic and industrial zone linked to the Bajío region and the Valley of Mexico.

Furthermore, it is within reach of important consumer markets, metropolitan areas and logistics hubs .

It is worth remembering that of the 14 planned poles, seven are already under construction, four will begin construction in the coming weeks, and three will be added to the construction.

The Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) announced that it is considering expanding the cargo terminal at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) through private initiative .

“Sedena was going to absorb that expense, that commitment as in the construction of the entire AIFA, today public-private investment is also being analyzed and several options are being analyzed to create those spaces because it is urgent,” said General Enrique Vallín Osuna, general director of AFAC.

In an interview, he said that the expansion of cargo warehouses is being carried out due to the saturation of the current warehouses.

According to AFAC statistics, from January to August of this year, AIFA has mobilized 300,360.8 tons, 257,159.9 tons more than in the same period last year.

It should be remembered that since September 1, 2023, all dedicated cargo airlines were forced to suspend operations at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) , following the entry into force of a presidential decree that put an end to these operations, and many of them decided to move their activities to AIFA.

Vallín Osuna mentioned without giving further details that there are already interested parties in investing in this project, “but that is up to the authorities of Sedena and AIFA to determine which is the best option for construction.”

He reiterated that ” this is the line that is being analyzed only for cargo warehouses , the AIFA is increasing little by little.”

Currently, the international cargo terminal has 12 simple warehouses (six duplexes per construction system) which are already leased.

It should be remembered that last April T21 reported that the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador was seeking to provide AIFA with more cargo warehouses, and so, through the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), it had requested 2,860.9 million pesos for the construction of said facilities.

“The project involves expanding the international cargo terminal at Felipe Ángeles International Airport by building warehouses, a platform and a taxiway to bring it to its maximum capacity and thus meet the demand for airport and complementary services, strengthening its infrastructure,” he explained.

In the document sent to the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), it was stated that, due to the increase in income that the company receives from airport and complementary services, among the benefits of the new work would be that it indirectly contributes to increasing the number of sources of employment associated with the legal entities that rent the warehouses.
