Hapag-Lloyd will apply a peak season surcharge (PSS) to cargo moved from northern Europe to the west coast of Latin America, Central America and the Caribbean.

This PSS will take effect from July 24, 2024 and will be valid “until further notice.” Meanwhile, for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, the implementation date is August 17 of this year.

The increase was set at 200 euros for 20-foot containers and 400 euros for 40-foot cargo containers.

It is worth mentioning that dry cargo moved from the Indian subcontinent to the east and west coast of Latin America, Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico is subject to a general rate increase (GRI) .

This GRI is valid from August 1, 2024 and “until further notice.” The amounts were set at one thousand dollars per 20-foot dry container and for the 40-foot dry and High Cube containers.

Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd is positioned as the fifth largest shipping line in the world , with 2,160,104 20-foot containers at its disposal and 285 container ships in its fleet, according to Alphaliner.
