2026 is shaping up to be not only a challenging year, but also a turning point for those managing supply chains and transportation in Mexico and around the world. Persistent trade tensions, constant regulatory changes, operational uncertainty, and economic pressures have created an environment where stability is no longer the norm.

In this new scenario, logistics leadership is no longer defined solely by operational efficiency, but by the ability to anticipate, adapt and make strategic decisions amid volatility, according to senior executives in the sector.

“The coming years are years of uncertainty,” says Hugo Ruiz, president of the National Council of Executives in Logistics and Supply Chain (ConaLog) .

From their perspective, the challenge lies not in eliminating uncertainty—an impossible task—but in understanding it and transforming it into a manageable element within the business strategy . This paradigm shift compels organizations to strengthen their operational intelligence and analytical capabilities, recognizing that planning can no longer be built on static assumptions.

UNCERTAINTY, THE NEW CONSTANT

For those directly involved in transportation, uncertainty has ceased to be an occasional factor and has become a structural condition. Gilberto Palomares, CEO of Transportes Pitic , describes an environment where volatility impacts every link in the chain.

“Uncertainty is part of our daily operations. From regulatory changes to roadside operating conditions, everything can change, and that forces companies to develop more flexible and strategic planning. This includes considering customers and operations, as well as maintaining a clear long-term vision,” he explains.

This reality has transformed logistics leadership from an execution-focused function to a role centered on anticipation . Companies no longer simply manage fleets, routes, or inventories; they must now evaluate multiple scenarios, anticipate disruptions, and build organizational resilience.

Reaching 53 years in an industry as challenging as freight transportation is no small feat. For Transportes Pitic , this anniversary, celebrated on February 1st, represents much more than a number: it is the confirmation of a history built on perseverance, adaptation, and a clear philosophy of customer service that has remained unchanged since its inception.

The company was founded more than five decades ago, like any entrepreneurial venture: with enthusiasm, hard work, and a clear vision from its founder. From the beginning, the goal was to offer excellent service that would connect producers, manufacturers, and distributors with the people who need those products in their daily lives. That legacy not only endures but has grown stronger over time, Gilberto Palomares, CEO of Transportes Pitic, told T21.

From operating with just nine trucks, the company evolved to consolidate a fleet of more than a thousand units , a network of 32 branches and a workforce of nearly 1,200 employees, figures that reflect growth, but also the ability to sustain it over time, even in complex contexts such as the one that 2025 represented for the freight transport sector, explained Palomares.

The past year was marked by economic volatility, adjustments in the global environment, and decisions that demanded constant attention. Palomares explained that 2025 was “a complex, difficult year,” influenced by external factors that directly impacted the company’s operations.

However, he clarified that it was not the first time the company had faced an adverse environment and that the focus was on the essentials: “We focused on our own work, on serving our customers in the best possible way and exceeding their expectations,” he emphasized.

That vision allowed the period to end with sound finances, sustained growth, and greater consolidation in strategic segments , particularly in the Pacific region.

Transportes Pitic has focused on something it considers essential: its people . Palomares emphasized that fostering a positive work environment, promoting skills development, and strengthening the team’s capabilities were key to overcoming the challenges of the business world.

“Our people are our strength,” he reiterated. He said that putting staff first allowed them to resolve situations that, at first, seemed like insurmountable obstacles.

Defining Transportes Pitic in a single word isn’t easy, but one idea runs through its entire history: being a customer-centric company . Palomares described the company as an organization “open to the customer, in tune with them, and transparent,” a philosophy that implies honesty, responsibility, initiative, and a service-oriented attitude.

This way of operating has generated certainty over time, to the point that customers know that “they are leaving their cargo in expert hands,” even when conditions are not ideal.

Fifty-three years after its founding, the company celebrates not only its past achievements but also its ongoing development. Palomares emphasized that the anniversary is also a time to recognize those who have been, are, and will be part of the company, with a long-term vision focused on laying a solid foundation for the future.

With pride, he emphasized that Transportes Pitic remains committed to connecting supply chains and contributing, through road transport, to “this country moving forward.”

In transport and logistics, such a vast world!, few companies can boast a solid history full of achievements like Transportes Pitic .  

Founded 52 years ago, the company has navigated through challenging times, resource shortages, economic crises  and constant changes in the market.  

On its anniversary, Gilberto Palomares, CEO, opened a window for T21 into the history that transformed the company into a giant in the sector . 

In his first words, Palomares describes the beginnings of Transportes Pitic as a solo journey, in a completely different Mexico.  

“Transport was regulated, you were only given permission for one route, two at most, and you could not travel on any other route,” he said. 

In Mexico, the company faced challenges from its founding , not only due to restrictions in the sector, but also due to infrastructure conditions that made daily work difficult.  

He explained that at that time the roads were precarious and the distances much longer than they seem today, although he acknowledged that the infrastructure is still deficient today. 

“The operator would come out and give him his blessing, and you wouldn’t see him again until a month later,” he said, explaining part of the sacrifice and perseverance that defined the company’s first workers. 

Although economic crises in Mexico in past decades seemed to put the company’s stability at risk, Palomares highlighted Transportes Pitic’s ability to adapt throughout the journey.  

“That experience, that knowledge, has been passed down from generation to generation. Fortunately, today we are a company with employees who have been with us for many years,” said Palomares. 

Growth and adaptation: a model for sustainability in transport 

Palomares said that over the years, the company has reinvented itself and adapted to the needs of the market. From the beginning, when they focused on service between the northwest of Sonora and the center of the country, until today, when they have a presence throughout the Mexican Republic . 

Currently, the company has 32 branches throughout the country and employs more than 1,250 people , who are part of what Palomares proudly calls “the Pitic family.” 

Diversification, he says, is the key to his success. “ Our services are aimed at the consolidated cargo segment, famous LTL services, but we also have full truckload services where we have dry and refrigerated cargo. We have moved into a B2B business, with a strong focus on large shipments, but we have accelerated our presence in the smaller shipment segment,” explained Palomares.

The company also expanded its reach, reaching the southeast of the country, including Cancun, and strengthening its presence in the north, with routes that include Monterrey and Chihuahua.  

“We are investing in technological solutions to optimize the customer experience, improve security and offer a more agile service,” said Palomares. 

Current and future challenges 

Despite its achievements, the company is not exempt from challenges. Like many others in the sector, Transportes Pitic faces a shortage of qualified operators , a situation that has become a constant challenge.  

Palomares admitted that “the market is dynamic” and that needs are constantly changing, so the company must continually adapt to attract and retain talent. 

Road safety is another critical challenge. “The issue of safety seems to be never-ending,” Palomares said, highlighting the country’s dangerous areas and the constant need to protect operators and cargo. 

At the end of this interview, Palomares also spoke about the legacy he wants to leave with Transportes Pitic. For him, beyond the economic growth or expansion of the company, the most important thing is the impact that it can have on its people and on society.  

“The opportunities are real and they exist, and my own story is proof of that. I started as just another employee and today I am at the head of this great company,” said Palomares. 

The legacy that Palomares wishes to leave is one based on respect, integrity and responsibility. 

 “We want to be a company that stands up for itself, that does things well and that fulfils its commitments. Not only to our clients, but also to our community and our collaborators. We always say that we are a family, and that is what we try to reflect in our way of working,” he explained. 

This commitment to social responsibility has been reflected in the 13 consecutive years in which Transportes Pitic has received the Socially Responsible Company distinction, in addition to its inclusion in the group of the best Mexican companies.
