PepsiCo Mexico has launched an initiative called “Women Behind the Wheel” aimed at increasing female participation in roles traditionally dominated by men, such as driver-salesperson, the company announced in a press release.

Currently, 8% of these positions within the company are held by women, a figure that doubles the national average.

The program, active in 39 cities across six regions of the country, offers training in driving standard units, financial support for obtaining specialized licenses, and flexible working hours, as explained in the press release.

With these measures, the company aims to break gender stereotypes and promote the professional development of its female employees.

In Mexico, women represent only 11.4% of the workforce in the cargo transportation sector, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi). However, PepsiCo’s program is enabling more women to access these roles. Since its launch in 2023, over 78 women have joined this initiative.

Rosalina Tornel, Vice President of Gamesa Quaker and Sonrics at PepsiCo Foods Mexico, emphasized the importance of continuing to promote equity.

“Our goal is to continue promoting gender equity through programs that offer equal job opportunities and inspire more women to forge their path as operators,” said Rosalina Tornel.

Those interested in participating in “Women Behind the Wheel” must have experience in driving automatic transmission vehicles, possess a type A driver’s license, and have a passion for sales. The program operates in cities such as Tijuana, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Puebla, Mérida, and Cancún, among others.

The company aims to remain committed to the inclusion and professional development of its female employees, striving to be a leader in the workplace.
