In the first half of February 2025, the increase in the cost of some products such as eggs, beef and pork accelerated the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) , which measures the variation in the prices of a basket of goods and services, to place it at  3.74% annually , according to information from the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) published this Monday.

The agency detailed that in the reference period, the INPC reported a biweekly variation of  0.15%  in the first half of the second month of the year, while the  underlying price index , which excludes goods and services with more volatile prices or that do not respond to market conditions, increased  0.27%  at a biweekly rate, with an increase in the price of merchandise with  0.21%  and of services with  0.32 percent .

At a biweekly rate, the  non-core price index  registered a fall of  0.25 percent . Within this, the prices of agricultural products decreased by  0.81%  and those of energy and government-authorized tariffs increased by  0.18 percent .

Among the products that registered increases in the period are bananas with  5.74% , eggs with 5.28% , beef with an increase of 1.11% , and pork with an increase of  1.01 percent .

On the other hand, the price of tomatoes decreased by  18.53% , pumpkin fell by 10.27% , onions by 7.81% , and carrots decreased by 4.79 percent .

Among the entities with the greatest increases in the INPC are Michoacán and Durango, each with 0.42% , Guanajuato with 0.37% , Coahuila with 0.34% and Chihuahua with 0.33 percent .

Meanwhile, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Tabasco had variations below the national average, with decreases of 0.12% ,  0.11%  and  0.06% , respectively.

According to these figures, after six fortnights with downward reports, the INPC for the first half of February had its highest level since the second half of December 2024.

In this context, analysts have warned that the economic outlook in Mexico for this year will be moderate and with significant challenges arising from political uncertainty, both in the country and in the United States, whose government, headed by President  Donald Trump , seeks to impose tariffs of up to  25%  on Mexico, a measure that was paused for a month after it came into effect on February 4.
