QUERÉTARO, QRO.- The track gleamed in the daylight as the vehicles picked up speed to face the most demanding tests, such as panic braking, evasive maneuvers, and exercises that tested every reflex. Amid turns, precise pauses, and the roar of the tractor-trailers, female operators began the practical phase of the Master in Road Safety , a training program designed to raise the standard of professional operation in the trucking industry

Thus, the asphalt track of the Mexican Transportation Institute (IMT) facilities became the stage for the Master’s Program in Road Safety, organized by the National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP) . The event brought together 18 female drivers from companies such as Bimbo , Pilot , OXXO , and Coca-Cola FEMSA , among others, who put the knowledge acquired during the theoretical phase taught by the ANTP into practice on the track.

The day’s activities aimed to reinforce technical skills and replicate the real-world conditions faced by roadside operators. Following the theoretical portion, the process began with a medical evaluation to ensure everyone was physically and mentally fit for the tests.

Following this, the participants underwent a vehicle safety check and a physical-mechanical inspection designed to identify minimum requirements for safe driving. As they progressed, they also incorporated awareness tools such as “Fatal Vision” goggles, which simulate the effects of intoxication and demonstrate how perception is distorted under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

From there, things got tough: vehicle recognition drills, evasive maneuvers over short distances, panic braking on dry and wet surfaces, merging at intersections, and assisted reversing maneuvers . Each action was evaluated according to criteria of safety, precision, and reaction time.

“The first maneuver is an 80-meter maneuver, where we simulate a vehicle cutting across. This is followed by a 60-meter evasive maneuver, continuing at a sustained speed of 70 kilometers per hour (km/h) to perform a panic braking maneuver on dry pavement from 70 to zero,” explained Luis Ángel Nieto, Transportation Management consultant at Innotran .

From the technical area, Scania Mexico supported the training with trucks equipped for the tests. Víctor Calderilla, a testing specialist, explained to the operators how the retarder works, its operating modes, and best practices to ensure control and stability during maneuvers.

For her part, Adriana Davy, Marketing and Communications Manager for Scania Mexico, highlighted the brand’s pride in participating in this ANTP initiative from the beginning . “For Scania, safety is non-negotiable; that’s why we joined as sponsors from the start. The tests are conducted with a Scania because this demonstrates not only performance, but also safety,” she noted.

Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of promoting the inclusion of women in transportation operations and how programs like these strengthen their presence in a historically male-dominated sector.

The ANTP explained that this Master’s in Road Safety is part of a project that has been in development for more than a year, with the objective of establishing an advanced certification standard for instructors and operators with the highest technical level within companies.

Alex Theissen, president of the ANTP Board of Directors, stressed that Mexico continues to face critical figures in terms of road accidents, so raising the level of training is a strategic priority for the sector

He explained that the Master’s in Road Safety is progressing toward its consolidation as the most robust operational professionalization program in the industry. The ANTP plans to hold 30 events next year and certify at least 450 operators , expanding its reach to affiliated and non-affiliated companies seeking to improve their road safety standards.

In this edition, telemetry also played a key role. Thanks to Motum ‘s support , the vehicles were equipped with cameras to document the operators’ reactions in each maneuver , allowing for the analysis of habits, decisions, and behaviors in risky situations.

With the theory now ingrained and the practical exercises completed, several operators shared that the day left them with a mix of pride, confidence, and renewed responsibility. The maneuvers, technical feedback, and instructor guidance allowed them to confirm their skills, but also to identify areas for improvement. At the end, the presentation of certificates symbolized not only the conclusion of the day, but also the recognition of their commitment to safer, more professional, and more humane transportation.

GUADALAJARA, JAL. – Artificial Intelligence (AI) has dominated speeches and panels in recent years. However, for Tecnomotum , its value lies not in the trend, but in its practical application within freight transportation , an industry where every operational decision influences safety, costs, and business continuity.

That was the premise that the company presented at Expo Transporte ANPACT 2025 , along with a key message: AI only generates results when fleets adopt it and integrate it into their daily operations .

ANIA: The AI that processes millions of data points in seconds

During his conference, Carlos Cota , Vice President of Revenue at Tecnomotum, explained how the industry has moved from traditional tracking systems to operational intelligence models, where data must be processed in real time.

“A customer with a thousand trucks generated a million alerts a month. It’s humanly impossible to handle them all. AI should help us filter that information and act only on what’s truly relevant,” he said.

With that challenge as a starting point, Tecnomotum developed ANIA , its artificial intelligence neural agent, capable of correlating information, analyzing operational patterns, detecting anomalies and activating automatic actions such as engine stops, route redefinition or activation of security protocols.

Beyond hardware : adoption as the true differentiator

In its space within the event, Tecnomotum showcased an immersive experience, where operators could experience real-life scenarios: distractions, fatigue, attempted robberies, and critical situations inside and outside the cabin.

The goal was not only to demonstrate technology, but to show how perception changes when the operator understands what AI is for .

Several participants shared their impressions:

“I used to think the camera was for pointing out mistakes, but now I see that it’s for helping us.”

“AI alerts me when I’m too tired. It works.”

This type of feedback points to a cultural change that Tecnomotum has promoted: that technology is not seen as punishment , but as a tool for support.

Cota expressed it this way:

“AI is not meant to replace people, but to give them superpowers.”

The future of transport

Cota also addressed the convergence between generative AI and digital twins , technologies that will allow the simulation of complex logistical scenarios—such as blockades, storms, or port closures—and anticipate the best operational response.

“We will be able to ask the system: what happens if my route floods?, what do I do if my driver has been driving for more than 12 hours or if the brakes indicate a failure?” he explained.

One of Tecnomotum’s differentiating factors is the regionalization of its algorithms , designed to understand the Mexican and Latin American context.

“Our models understand when an operator says ‘the rats came out’ and know that they’re not talking about animals, but about an attempted robbery. The AI has to speak our language,” he commented.

In addition, the company has developed specific functions for the domestic market, such as weapons detection in the cabin , engine shutdowns with automated protocols , and predictive alerts adapted to high-risk routes.

Training: the key to turning technology into results

Tecnomotum emphasized that adoption doesn’t happen on its own. Therefore, it promotes Enlace Freightliner Academy , a continuous training program for operators, monitors, and fleet managers.

The goal is to ensure that teams understand how AI works, how to interpret information, and how to integrate the technology into their daily operations.

For Tecnomotum, the formula is clear: without training, AI is just a tool; with training, it becomes an enabler of efficiency, security, and decision-making .

The message Tecnomotum delivered at Expo Transporte is direct: artificial intelligence is no longer an aspirational concept , but an operational component that allows for preventing incidents , responding to emergencies, and improving productivity.

And its impact is greatest when the technology is adopted, understood, and becomes part of the daily routine of those who manage, monitor, and direct the operation. Motum: More than Artificial Intelligence, real results.

GUADALAJARA, JAL. – In a sector accustomed for years to hearing promises about technology, Motum demonstrated at Expo Transporte ANPACT 2025 that artificial intelligence has moved beyond mere rhetoric to become a measurable impact. Through the evolution of Enlace Freightliner 3.0 and the Artificial Intelligence Neural Agent (ANIA) , the Mexican company presented real results in safety, efficiency, and productivity for the country’s fleets.

As part of the event, Motum launched an exclusive Experience, designed specifically for the country’s leading fleets, located in a VIP area at a hotel near the exhibition venue. There, guests were able to experience the new generation of connectivity firsthand, view hard data, see real-world case studies, and hear testimonials from clients who have already achieved significant improvements in safety and operations.

Pedro Rivera , CEO of Tecnomotum, recalled that the alliance between Tecnomotum and Freightliner Mexico began ten years ago, in 2015, with the first Enlace.

“The challenge was clear: to improve the user experience and leverage the potential of vehicle information,” he explained.

Next came Enlace 2.0 in 2019, which unified tracking, telematics, and predictive maintenance functions into a single platform; and now Enlace 3.0, which adds a two-way camera (Driver Coach) and an artificial intelligence system called ANIA (Artificial Intelligence Neural Agent) .

“With ANIA, we can combine information from the truck, its surroundings, and the cameras to perform predictive analysis. We want to warn before an event occurs and thwart a robbery before it happens,” Rivera emphasized.

ANIA integrates data from multiple sources, such as traffic, weather, security alerts, telemetry, and driver behavior, to provide real-time analysis and automated or assisted decision-making. The goal, according to Rivera, is to move from reaction to prevention.

“In cases of theft, accidents, or maintenance, our goal is to be proactive first, then proactive, and only reactive at the very end. If you wait to react until your truck has already been stolen, the chances of success decrease every minute,” he asserted.

The system also interacts with authorities such as the National Guard, generating reports of risk zones and critical times to help redirect units and prevent incidents.

For her part, Itzel Alpízar, Freightliner’s Connectivity and Electrification Strategy Manager, stressed that technological evolution only makes sense when it adds real value to the customer.

“We want technology to translate into safety, efficiency, and profitability. Through Enlace 3.0 and our exclusive fault codes and safety systems, we offer accurate information to prevent accidents, theft, or catastrophic failures,” he said.

The executive explained that Enlace Freightliner Academy , also presented at the event, is a digital learning platform that allows operators, analysts, and fleet managers to train themselves independently on topics such as safety, maintenance, best practices, and proper use of technology.

“Technological adoption is key. It’s not enough to have the camera or the telematics; you have to understand how to use it. That’s why we created an academy that professionalizes the end user,” Alpízar pointed out.

Rivera acknowledged that, as with seatbelt use, there is still resistance among drivers to adopting technologies like cameras. However, she asserted that awareness campaigns are yielding results, especially among female drivers, who report feeling safer with video assistance.

SAN JUAN DEL RÍO, QRO.– On Mexican roads, safety no longer depends solely on the operator. In recent years, technology has become a silent co-pilot that alerts, corrects and predicts risks before they occur, as explained by transporters, suppliers and manufacturers during the 9th National Road Safety Congress of the National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP) , when presenting the innovations that today transform the operation of cargo transportation.

Ninety percent of accidents are related to human error. Therefore, Transportes Azteca relies on artificial intelligence-based systems that detect distractions, fatigue, or lane departures, in addition to automated transmissions that reduce the driver’s decision-making burden, explained Aldo Daniel Osuna, representing Transportes Azteca.

“Every technological advance is an opportunity to save a life,” Osuna said.

Along the same lines, Coca-Cola FEMSA explained how the use of simulators and indoor and outdoor cameras has strengthened the training of its personnel.

“The operator is the central axis, which is why we look for tools that make their work easier and safer,” said Sebastián Cerón, Primary Processes and Distribution Manager, highlighting that the company’s strategy combines trained talent, digitalization, and technological support .

The innovation contribution came from Motum , which develops integrated solutions for fatigue monitoring, fuel management, safety alerts, and even laboratory-tested engine shutdowns.

“The key is for artificial intelligence to help make decisions in real time and for everything to be integrated into a single ecosystem,” emphasized Carlos Cota, VP of Revenue at TecnoMotum, underscoring the need for these tools to respond to the reality of Mexican roads.

For its part, Kenworth has made it clear that safety is one of its design pillars. Its models include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, and digital rearview cameras.

“Our commitment is to ensure that operators understand and make the most of these technologies,” said Gerardo Vega, the company’s Product Planner.

Daimler Truck Mexico demonstrated the potential of artificial intelligence to simplify processes for operators and monitors.

“AI doesn’t replace humans, it empowers them to make better decisions and prevent accidents,” said Itzel Alpízar, manager of Connectivity and Electric Mobility Strategy at Daimler Truck Mexico, when presenting the Detroit Assurance 5.0 suite, integrated into Freightliner tractor trucks and capable of detecting fatigue, issuing intelligent alerts and centralizing critical information.

At Volkswagen Truck & Bus , product engineer Jaime Cano emphasized that artificial intelligence is no longer a science fiction dream, but a reality. He said the brand’s vehicles integrate traffic sign detection, hill start assist, blind spot radars, and automatic speed adjustment systems.

In addition, the company is advancing autonomous transportation projects in Europe that set the tone for the future, according to Cano.

Isuzu Mexico ‘s turn was marked by the presentation of its new cabin, designed with ergonomic and safety in mind. Its innovations included impact absorption systems, speed alarms, and a rearview camera.

“We want every trip to be safe and comfortable, because the operator spends a large part of his or her life in the truck,” said Víctor Flores, Isuzu Product Planning Manager.

Finally, International emphasized preventive and reactive safety : from tire pressure monitoring to anticipate failures to systems that allow for automatic response to an incident.

“Prevention is key to avoiding road risks,” said Marcel do Prado, Business Support Director of International Mexico.

The common thread running through all the presentations was the premise that road safety is no longer limited to training operators or improving infrastructure. Today, technology—from sensors, cameras, and artificial intelligence—is positioned as an indispensable ally in protecting lives and addressing the challenges of Mexican roads.

Carlos Cota recommended that carriers evolve by converting monitoring centers into intelligence centers, which will have the following advantages:

Intelligent alert assignment.

Alert segmentation by risk.

Neurovision and automated reports.

Discover how to turn your monitoring center into an operational intelligence center .

While this solution is integrated into EFL 3.0, it can be implemented on any truck or tractor-trailer model to achieve the benefits mentioned.

A practical example of how Artificial Intelligence supports decision-making is the following: “It takes AI less than two minutes to analyze 60,000 alerts generated by the units; in a highly efficient action, it would take a monitor 480 hours,” described Javier Altamirano, Director of Product Marketing at EFL 3.0.

Altamirano explained that the advantages of EFL 3.0 can be described in three areas: first, the ability to group alerts into three lanes: possible vehicle theft, fatigued driving, and possible accidents, “allowing us to find the needle in a sea of alerts . “

In the case of road safety, the Dangerous Driving Meta-Alert module allows the monitoring center to reduce risk through preventive alerts. Calls are made by a robot through the Neuropanel, and actions can be automated according to the defined processes.

The previous one is the second lane, automation.

While the third lane is determined by creating alerts on cameras with AI, “this function allows us to identify the correct operator, recognize objects that should not be in the cabin, all of this is done by Motum on our supplier’s original camera, which is the added value we give to our market offering ,” Javier Altamirano asserted.

The approach presented by Tecnomotum executives generated a shift in perspective for some of the transporters present, motivating them to be more receptive in order to obtain greater benefits from Artificial Intelligence.

With 50 years in the freight transport business, Fletes Hesa (member of the Top 100 of Autotransporte® ) is evolving its strategy and operation , diversifying into different sectors and adopting new technologies , according to Humberto Torio, its commercial director, who told T21 about the current challenges and initiatives to consolidate its leadership in the sector.

Since its inception in 1975, Fletes Hesa has established itself in the transport of steel and paper . However, market dynamics and the need for growth led the company to expand into other segments.

“We no longer only transport steel and paper, we also unload ships in the port area with different materials,” said Torio.

In recent years, the company has expanded its focus on the transportation of hazardous materials , including cryogenic products and steel waste. It has also strengthened its presence in the transportation of containerized cargo and general cargo. By 2024, it has also expanded its involvement in the beverage sector and the cement industry .

Currently, Fletes Hesa has a fleet of 286 tractor trucks , mostly composed of Freightliner and Scania units , as well as approximately 600 trailers of various types , including platforms, dump equipment, pressurized trailers and units for transporting industrial gases.

The company also strengthened its strategic alliances with carriers to expand its operational capacity without committing to large investments in its own fleet.

Security is a central aspect in the operation of Fletes Hesa. A distinctive element is the implementation of Motum (Tecnomotum) , a tracking and telemetry system developed internally 22 years ago under the initiative of Edgar Chahín, CEO of Fletes Hesa.

“It was initially designed to monitor unit performance, but over time it has evolved to include safety features,” Torio explained.

The system can identify mechanical failures in real time , record driver behavior and, in the event of attempted theft, activate protection mechanisms such as remote shutdown of the truck. This technology has been adopted by Freightliner, which now installs it in its units at the factory.

The transport sector faces a common challenge: the shortage of trained operators . Fletes Hesa responded by creating its own driver training school .

“Young people can begin their training from the age of 18 and, depending on their performance, in one or two years they are ready to operate cargo units,” Torio said.

This strategy allowed the company to nurture its workforce with talent trained under its standards, minimizing the impact of labor turnover in the industry.

In addition, Hesa has participated for 15 years in the National Road Safety Award , obtaining various recognitions for both the company and its operators.

“We have drivers who have achieved the highest level of certification for their safety performance,” Torio said.

As for its projection, the company aims to double its fleet in the next three years. “By 2027 , we hope to have 600 units , always guaranteeing the quality of the service,” said the Commercial Director.

Despite the challenges of the logistics environment, Fletes Hesa is betting on diversification, technology and training to consolidate its position in the market. Adaptability remains a key factor in facing the transformations in the sector.

Cargo transportation in Mexico is the fundamental pillar of logistics both in the domestic market and in foreign trade. With more than 41,223 companies involved in this activity, it is crucial to have tools that adapt to different fleet sizes and that offer safety and efficiency.

In this context, Freightliner Link 3.0 , developed in collaboration with Motum , emerges as a platform that not only meets logistics needs, but also transforms asset security with the power of artificial intelligence (AI).

Itzel Alpizar , Connectivity Strategy Manager at Daimler Truck Mexico , mentions that one of the key aspects of Enlace Freightliner 3.0 is its flexibility: “The solution is not limited to one type of vehicle, it adapts to any fleet size,” making it a viable option for large and small companies.

Luis Galán , CTO and founder of Motum , highlights the importance of AI in this transformation process. “Historically, monitoring centers have been focused on logistics, but today they must also respond to heritage needs, such as asset security. This is where artificial intelligence plays a crucial role, simplifying these complex tasks and allowing for more efficient operations.”

Galán points out that without AI, it can take a person several minutes to gather information about a unit in critical situations, while with AI all the information can be obtained in a matter of seconds.

Galán adds that simplicity is one of the great attributes of AI applied to transport. “Time is the most valuable factor in any operation, and the ability to act quickly through AI can make the difference between a crisis and an effective resolution.”

Luis Galan and Itzel Alpizar.

Freightliner 3.0 includes technological advances such as weapon detection both inside and outside the cabin, anti-jammer systems , and integration with Detroit Assurance , an ecosystem that reinforces driver safety in real time. “We want operators to feel protected, not monitored, and that is exactly what we have achieved,” adds Galán. “We have even developed a function where AI can communicate with operators via a phone call, helping them in critical moments and reinforcing that feeling of protection.”

Alpizar reinforces this vision by mentioning that one of the great benefits of Freightliner Link 3.0 is its ability to eliminate the “human factor” in certain aspects of monitoring, where personnel limitations make it difficult to maintain constant surveillance. “With AI, it is like having a complete team of people monitoring the operators’ path, identifying risks and acting proactively.”

In addition to improving safety, the platform also helps to optimize driver behavior. “It’s not about chasing the driver,” says Alpizar, “it’s about improving their driving technique, correcting habits such as distractions, sudden braking or lane departures, which results in safer and more efficient operation, and also generates savings in fuel consumption.”

Given the initial resistance of some operators to dashcams and other solutions, Galán emphasizes that when drivers experience the benefits of these technologies, they quickly become their advocates. “In crisis situations, such as an accident, these tools can be the key to delineating liability and protecting the operator from an irresponsible third party,” he explains.

Freightliner 3.0 and Motum are leading an evolution in freight transportation, where artificial intelligence is not just a trend, but a real and accessible tool that transforms operations. With a vision focused on asset security and operational efficiency, this platform is helping carriers face current challenges effectively and simply.

Over the years and the growing demand for quality logistics and transportation services, companies have observed that the digitalization of processes helps them offer increasingly efficient services with a consequent reduction in operating costs and an increase in asset security. and road . The adoption and integration of digital technologies and advanced tools at all stages of the supply chain and fleet management are the natural step to continue competing in an increasingly demanding market.

Based on the principle that technology is an instrument for continuous improvement, Solistica integrated tools from an early age that have helped it eliminate deviations in its operation, as Carlos Alberto Lembo, head of risk management for Solistica, shared with T21.

“Something you don’t measure, you can’t control and what you don’t control you can’t improve. For this reason, in the company we have indicators to begin to control what happens with our units and with the operators, especially to take care of both safety and security risks,” said Lembo.

The company representative stressed that in recent years the transportation of goods and merchandise has experienced a significant increase in the crime of theft, “unfortunately crime goes one step beyond technology, it has become a race against theft , so Solistica has always sought best practices, partnering with technology providers that are capable of meeting our needs, such is the case of Motum , which at our request developed an automatic engine stop that works with geofences,” said Lembo.

This solution, combined with the incorporation of door opening sensors, backup GPS and locks to prevent the boxes from being unhooked, allowed Solistica to significantly reduce theft events that often ended in the loss of merchandise and property. unit. To date, the company averages 10 events a year, of which 50% have been frustrated due to the implementation of technology.

“We understood that if the vehicle and the operator are not protected in the first 60 seconds of the criminal act, the probability of successful recovery is zero percent. But the most important thing is that the vehicle is capable of activating automatically when a risk situation arises,” said the head of risk management for Solistica.

The risk management specialist explained that, although so far Solistica has found the formula to significantly reduce thefts and reinforce road safety, there is always room for improvement , which is why in coordination with Motum they are developing geofences with speed and cutting. accelerator that seeks to prevent road accidents. “At Solistica we seek to ensure that technology always works in favor of the operator to safeguard his integrity,” said Lembo.

Another area that Solistica has reinforced with Motum technology is the telemetry of the units to attend to preventive and corrective maintenance. “We need our trucks to be running in the best conditions and not to be stopped due to a failure. The moment a truck goes out onto the street, visibility is lost and only technology can help us know what is happening with the units ,” stated the manager.

Finally, the risk management specialist shared that to achieve efficient operations it is necessary to record what happens in the fleets. “To improve, it is crucial that companies have indicators, that they are not afraid to say if I was robbed or if I had an accident, because no one is immune, the important thing is to recognize that you have a problem, then attack it with the technologies that they are within reach and partner with a supplier that understands their needs and is capable of accompanying them at all times,” he stated.
