<p><span dir="auto">The trucking industry in Mexico faces a scenario of multiple challenges, both operational, structural, and systemic, which is why companies must find the tools that will improve their results.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In this context, </span><a href="https://gomotive.com/get/es-mx/"><span dir="auto">Motive</span></a><span dir="auto"> is strengthening its technological offering to respond to the specific needs of Mexican trucking, said Omar Camacho, General Manager of the company in Mexico, in an interview with T21.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In this regard, Motive&#8217;s strategy considers four priority areas for the national market: </span><strong><span dir="auto">asset security, road safety, productivity, and operational efficiency</span></strong><span dir="auto"> . According to Omar Camacho, these four areas encompass a significant portion of the concerns of transport operators.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">Among the results of this process is the development of outstanding functionalities such as </span><strong><span dir="auto">monitoring and alert systems to detect sudden fuel losses</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , identification of risk zones and linking of incidents with operating patterns, tools that seek to combat practices associated with fuel theft and improve fleet control.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">One factor that Omar Camacho highlighted is the new generation of smart cameras with two-way communication, the ability to operate even when the vehicle&#8217;s power is interrupted, and driver identity validation mechanisms, </span><strong><span dir="auto">elements focused on reinforcing the safety of operations</span></strong><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<h4><strong><span dir="auto">Profitability, the goal</span></strong></h4>
<p><span dir="auto">For Motive, the main challenge for the sector is not focused on a single problem, but on the need to improve results in a more complex context.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">Omar Camacho explained that companies are simultaneously facing increased fuel costs, a higher incidence of accidents, a rise in theft, regulatory pressures, and challenges related to cross-border trade. Given this scenario, fleets are seeking solutions that allow them to &#8220;do more with the same,&#8221; improving profitability without significantly increasing their operating costs.</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">This vision coincides with a growing trend in the logistics industry, where digitalization is no longer perceived solely as a control tool, but as a factor to generate measurable financial returns through reduced accidents, optimized routes, better asset utilization, and decreased unproductive time.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">Unlike models focused exclusively on telematics, video security or satellite tracking, Motive argues that the evolution of the market points towards comprehensive platforms capable of connecting multiple operational processes.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">From Camacho&#8217;s perspective, many clients begin by adopting tools for road safety or property security, but later incorporate new functions related to fleet management, performance analysis, operational intelligence, and asset management. <p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">The combination of </span><strong><span dir="auto">increased accidents, cargo theft, and a shortage of drivers</span></strong><span dir="auto"> is creating a near-crisis scenario for Mexican trucking, where technology is becoming an indispensable tool to ensure the continuity of operations.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">During its annual event, </span><a href="https://gomotive.com/es-mx/"><span dir="auto">Motive</span></a><span dir="auto"> unveiled new solutions based on artificial intelligence (AI) and on-device processing capabilities (Edge AI), designed to respond in real time to the challenges facing the industry.</span></span></p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">“We are seeing a very complex, almost crisis-like scenario. It is a very resilient industry, but there is a significant increase in accidents, thefts and costs, in addition to a shortage of operators that is approaching 100,000,” said Omar Camacho, CEO of Motive, in an interview with T21.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">The company presented solutions, including </span><strong><span dir="auto">AI Dashcam Plus and AI Omnicam Plus</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , devices equipped with Edge AI, which allows for the interpretation of events and the generation of responses without the need to send information to the cloud.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span dir="auto">It also announced </span><strong><span dir="auto">Atlas</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , a conversational AI interface through which operators can interact with the system and receive real-time recommendations regarding traffic jams, risk zones, or emergency situations.</span></p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">“We are seeing an increase of nearly 20% in accidents compared to last year, and we estimate a similar increase for next year. Today we have almost 16,000 registered robberies, and all of this creates a vicious cycle that could force many companies out of the market,” he warned.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">Camacho explained that, given this scenario, fleets require integrated solutions capable of reacting in real time.</span></span></p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">“Organized crime uses cutting-edge technology, and many carriers continue to operate with isolated systems. What we are proposing is a comprehensive platform that responds to these challenges,” he said.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">According to the executive, some implementations have managed to reduce </span><strong><span dir="auto">accidents by up to 80% in the first six months</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , as well as decrease fuel consumption by up to 30% and reduce insurance costs.</span></span></p>
<h4 class="p1"><strong><span class="s2"><span dir="auto">From a raid to an expansion</span></span></strong></h4>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">One of Motive&#8217;s success stories is </span><a href="https://grupoadet.com/"><span dir="auto">Grupo ADET</span></a><span dir="auto"> , a company specializing in last mile delivery for e-commerce clients such as Mercado Libre and Amazon.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">Its CEO, Donaji Alvarado, explained that the company was founded almost four years ago with the conviction that technology should be a central part of the business.</span></span></p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">“We worked at a company where tractor-trailers would disappear and we’d find out three days later. We’d say, ‘How is it possible that this is still happening?’ From the beginning, we knew we needed GPS, cameras, and monitoring tools,” he recalled.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">After operating with another provider, Grupo ADET adopted Motive&#8217;s solutions and currently none of its units go on the road without monitoring and telemetry devices.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">The executive recounted that, during the first operations with Mercado Libre in Naucalpan, one of their vehicles was robbed. However, the panic button and real-time monitoring allowed them to alert the control center and coordinate a response with the authorities.</span></span></p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">“The monitoring team found out immediately, called the police, and they arrived at the house where the merchandise was located. They uncovered a major network involving stolen vehicles and arrested the group. Since then, we haven&#8217;t had any more robberies in that area, whereas before there was one per month,” he explained.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">The incident ended up becoming a </span><strong><span dir="auto">growth opportunity</span></strong><span dir="auto"> .</span></span></p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">“We took all the evidence to the client, and from there we experienced enormous growth. We went from operating about 10 units to nearly 160 with that client. If that hadn&#8217;t happened, we probably wouldn&#8217;t be where we are today,” he said.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<h4 class="p1"><strong><span class="s2"><span dir="auto">The last mile remains under pressure</span></span></strong></h4>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">Alvarado noted that the recent Hot Sale left a sustained demand for deliveries during June, forcing companies to </span><strong><span dir="auto">increase their capacity by up to 50%</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , in an environment where hiring staff has become increasingly competitive.</span></span></p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">“Such rapid growth is a financial challenge and also a human capital challenge, because all last-mile companies are looking for operators and staff at the same time,” he commented.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">In the last two months, Grupo ADET increased </span><strong><span dir="auto">its fleet by between 30% and 40%</span></strong><span dir="auto"> and is currently in a consolidation phase to take full advantage of the technological tools already available, including operator training solutions.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">“Visibility is everything. It helps us in human resources, finance, and operations. There comes a point where it&#8217;s essential to have a system that allows you to know where all the units are and what&#8217;s happening with them,” he stated.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span dir="auto">For Motive, artificial intelligence and real-time reaction capabilities will be key to facing the challenges that threaten road transport today.</span></span></p>

<p><strong><span dir="auto">At its annual Vision 26</span></strong><span dir="auto"> event, <a href="https://gomotive.com/">Motive</a> unveiled a new generation of solutions powered by </span><strong><span dir="auto">artificial intelligence (AI) and integrated </span><em><span dir="auto">hardware</span></em></strong><span dir="auto"> , focused on solving two of the main challenges of physical operations: tool fragmentation and the burden of manual tasks.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">During the meeting, the company unveiled new capabilities geared towards fleets and operational teams, with the aim of automating processes, improving safety and increasing productivity through a unified platform.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">“All the operations leaders we spoke with had two problems in common: their systems were too fragmented, and their workflows included too many manual tasks. The solution lies in integration and automation,” said Shoaib Makani, CEO and co-founder of Motive.</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">He added that Motive has been dedicated to eliminating data silos, so </span><strong><span dir="auto">“now we focus on helping our customers leverage AI to gain critical </span><em><span dir="auto">insights</span></em><span dir="auto"> and automate interventions so they can operate more securely and productively</span></strong><span dir="auto"> . ”</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The company highlighted that the new solutions allow data to be consolidated into a single view and complex workflows to be automated using AI, reducing manual intervention in critical processes.</span></p>
<h4><strong><span dir="auto">AI Omnicam Plus: AI-powered 360° vision</span></strong></h4>
<p><span dir="auto">One of the main announcements was </span><strong><span dir="auto">IA Omnicam Plus</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , a new 360° camera system for commercial vehicles. The solution integrates the IA Dashcam Plus platform and the Qualcomm Dragonwing QCS6490 processor, allowing it to run more than 30 AI models simultaneously.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The system offers real-time monitoring from multiple angles and generates automatic alerts to detect risks such as pedestrians, cyclists, or other vehicles, helping to </span><strong><span dir="auto">prevent incidents before they occur</span></strong><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<h4><strong><span dir="auto">AI Dashcam Plus expands prevention capabilities</span></strong></h4>
<p><span dir="auto">Motive also announced new features for </span><strong><span dir="auto">AI Dashcam Plus</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , its AI-powered dashcam designed to detect unsafe behavior and issue instant alerts to operators.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Among the new features, the following stand out:</span></p>

<li><span dir="auto">Collision prevention through object tracking and trajectory prediction.</span></li>
<li><span dir="auto">Automatic license plate recognition to facilitate investigations and documentation of incidents.</span></li>
<li><span dir="auto">Real-time speed limit detection using computer vision.</span></li>
<li><span dir="auto">Live two-way calls between operators and managers without the need to use cell phones.</span></li>
</ul>
<h4><strong><span dir="auto">Atlas: Motive&#8217;s new AI assistant</span></strong></h4>
<p><span dir="auto">Another launch was </span><strong><span dir="auto">Atlas</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , an AI assistant that allows you to query information, analyze data, and execute actions from a single interface.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The tool incorporates platform-wide search capabilities and integrates with third-party tools such as Claude and ChatGPT via the Model Context Protocol (MCP), facilitating tasks such as cost analysis, regulatory compliance, or operational management.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In addition, Atlas will be available inside the cabin via an AI-powered voice assistant, allowing operators to perform actions using voice commands without being distracted from driving.</span></p>
<h4><strong><span dir="auto">Automations to act in real time</span></strong></h4>
<p><span dir="auto">The company also introduced Automations, a feature designed to trigger immediate actions in response to critical events detected in real time.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The intended uses include detecting excessive inactivity, </span><strong><span dir="auto">alerting for regulatory compliance risks</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , and automatically activating communication with operators in response to signs of fatigue or mechanical failures.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">According to Motive, the goal is to reduce risks and accelerate operational response without relying entirely on human intervention.</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">The firm also announced new capabilities for AI Vision, a computer vision solution focused on automating documentation and monitoring tasks in physical economy industries.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">That was the starting point for a conversation that went beyond bridges and sensors: a dialogue about how to break down the bureaucratic, cultural, and technological barriers that still hinder the digital transformation of transportation in Mexico.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">For </span><strong><span dir="auto">Juan Carlos Villa</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , Manager of International Trade and Border Transportation at the </span><a href="https://tti.tamu.edu/"><span dir="auto">Texas A&amp;M Transportation Institute</span></a><span dir="auto"> , the problem lies not only in the infrastructure, but in the lack of technological integration between Mexico and the United States.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">He explained that although there are more than 26 border crossings, </span><strong><span dir="auto">only six account for 80% of cargo movement</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , which generates delays, high logistics costs, and a significant environmental impact.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">&#8220;The inspection process is long and confusing; projects take up to 10 years to complete. That&#8217;s why technology is the most viable option,&#8221; he warned.</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">Among the solutions already being implemented, he highlighted the use of </span><strong><span dir="auto">RFID, Bluetooth, computer vision, license plate readers (ALPR), and GPS data</span></strong><span dir="auto"> to measure crossing times and analyze flow patterns. These tools allow for calculating delays, congestion, and actual wait times, using historical and real-time information.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The goal, he said, is to build </span><strong><span dir="auto">“smart border ports”</span></strong><span dir="auto"> that integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and shared databases, where information is useful to authorities, shippers, and planners alike.</span></p>

<h4><strong><span dir="auto">AI is no longer a promise</span></strong></h4>
<p><span dir="auto">For his part, </span><strong><span dir="auto">Omar Camacho</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , CEO of </span><a href="https://gomotive.com/es-mx/"><span dir="auto">Motive</span></a><span dir="auto"> , stated that AI-based technology has ceased to be a future promise and has become an immediate tool for security, productivity, and efficiency.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">The panel also agreed that technology costs are trending downward, but their true value depends on how data is used. &#8220;It&#8217;s getting cheaper to implement technology, but you have to know how to analyze the information,&#8221; Villa said.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Camacho added that the benefit should not be measured solely in cost reduction, but in competitiveness: &#8220;Technology is not adopted to save, but to survive.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Among the most illustrative examples, Camacho mentioned how Artificial Intelligence could </span><strong><span dir="auto">prevent tragedies such as the explosion of an LP gas pipeline in Iztapalapa</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , by detecting risk conditions, fatigue or excessive speed.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">He also spoke about the use of digital traceability to combat fiscal huachicol, allowing verification of the origin, destination, and authenticity of hydrocarbon cargoes.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">Andree Robles, Commercial and After-Sales Manager for Electric Vehicles and New Energy at </span><a href="https://www.foton.mx/"><span dir="auto">Foton Mexico</span></a><span dir="auto"> , said that </span><strong><span dir="auto">telematics is the backbone</span></strong><span dir="auto"> of intelligent fleet management, as it enables the real-time compilation of critical information on vehicle performance.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">It also enables fleet management, route optimization, maintenance scheduling, greater operational safety, and cost reduction, as well as more sustainable operations.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">“We manage five types of energy: internal combustion engines, diesel, natural gas, gasoline, electric vehicles, and hydrogen. We&#8217;ve been working with our own telemetry for years, and thanks to the integration of big data, machine learning, and even our Artificial Intelligence (AI), we&#8217;ve been able to transform telematics data into automated, strategic decisions,” he emphasized.</span></p></blockquote>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Therefore, it&#8217;s not just about </span><strong><span>cameras, sensors, or artificial intelligence</span></strong><span> , but about how these tools adapt to the complexities of the Mexican context.</span></span></p>

<div class="ads-wrapper align-center "><span class="s1">Mexico ranks first in Latin America </span><span class="s2">in cargo theft, with more than </span><strong><span class="s1">20,000 robberies annually</span></strong><span class="s2"> , according to data from the <a href="https://anerpv.mx/">National Association of Vehicle Tracking and Protection Companies (ANERPV)</a></span><span class="s1"> , in which <strong>85% of robberies </strong></span><span class="s2"><strong>occur with violence</strong> , and 90% are concentrated on highways in the center and southeast of the country, especially in the State of Mexico, Puebla, Veracruz and Guanajuato.</span></div>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>In an interview with T21, </span></span><span class="s1"><span>Omar Camacho </span></span><span class="s2"><span>, general manager of </span><a href="https://gomotive.com/es-mx/"><span>Motive México</span></a><span> , explained how the company&#8217;s platform has evolved to offer integrated solutions that respond to the most urgent needs of transportation in Mexico: </span><strong><span>asset security, accident prevention and increased productivity</span></strong><span> .</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Camacho recalled that in the early days, the transportation industry </span><strong><span>often relied on isolated technologies:</span></strong><span>  one for telemetry, another for document management, or fleet management.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>However, this has been changing. Motive has been committed from the outset to integrating everything into a single platform based on artificial intelligence.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>&#8220;The goal is to digitize the physical world; if you can see it completely, you can improve it. Many of the models we use were created in Mexico,&#8221; Camacho said.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>A clear example is the </span><strong><span>development of algorithms that detect when a door is opened on a unit</span></strong><span> , combining that information with the route, destination, and identity of the person interacting with the cargo. This has made it possible to identify thefts in real time and prevent multi-million-dollar losses for clients in the </span><em><span>retail</span></em><span> and distribution sectors.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Camacho also addressed the country&#8217;s structural challenges.</span></span><span> Although the platform operates robustly in both the United States and Mexico—including cross-border routes—the biggest obstacle in the Mexican market is insecurity.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>“Ironically, it&#8217;s in these contexts that our technology can make a difference,” he said.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>From detecting </span><strong><span>unusual behavior to generating automated alerts</span></strong><span> , Motive enables you to react to physical and financial risks faster.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>For his part, </span></span><span class="s1"><span>Enrique Viana </span></span><span class="s2"><span>, Senior Director of Revenue Strategy and Operations at Motive Mexico, agreed that the real value lies in </span></span><span class="s1"><span>combining cutting-edge technology with local sensitivity </span></span><span class="s2"><span>.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>A notable case is that of the company </span><a href="https://www.mexitrans.com/"><span>Mexitrans</span></a><span> , which significantly reduced merchandise theft thanks to the platform&#8217;s video analysis and traceability capabilities.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Viana also highlighted the development of a </span><strong><span>fatigue detection model</span></strong><span> that&#8217;s more accurate than the American one, designed specifically for the working conditions of Mexican operators.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Both executives agreed that the </span></span><span class="s1"><span>digital transformation of transportation </span></span><span class="s2"><span>is not just a matter of technology, but of cultural change.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>&#8220;It&#8217;s not about viewing these systems as a cost, but rather as an investment that returns value in the short term,&#8221; Camacho noted.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>According to Viana, the challenge is to </span><strong><span>involve the entire organization</span></strong><span> , from operators to directors, in the intelligent use of data.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span>In the United States, </span></span><strong><span class="s2"><span>$11 billion is lost </span></span></strong><span class="s1"><strong><span>each year due to not wearing seat belts</span></strong><span> , and </span></span><span class="s2"><span>94% of accidents </span></span><span class="s1"><span>are caused by human decisions.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Most seriously, </span><strong><span>more than nine deaths a day </span></strong></span><span class="s1"><strong><span>are due to distracted driving</span></strong><span> , and more than </span></span><span class="s2"><span>50% of crashes </span></span><span class="s1"><span>occur at or near intersections.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span>At the event, experts mentioned that the future of transportation isn&#8217;t built solely on innovation, but on uncomfortable conversations, listening to experiences, and recognizing mistakes.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span>The figures are alarming, and they also increase when we talk about the fact that  1.9 million people </span></span><span class="s2"><span>in the world </span><strong><span>lose their lives due to traffic accidents, </span></strong><span class="s1"><span>according to a </span><a href="https://www.un.org/es/"><span>United Nations</span></a><span> report ,</span></span></span><span class="s1"><span> and the situation does not improve if the figures are delved into Mexico, since, according to the </span></span><span><span class="s1"><a href="https://www.aleatica.com/">Aleatica</a></span><span class="s1"> Road </span></span><span class="s3"><span>Safety Monitor </span></span><span><span class="s1">, there are </span><span class="s2">15,674 deaths in 2022 alone </span><span class="s1">due to this type of accident.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span>In this sense, </span><strong><span>digitalization and the use of technologies</span></strong><span> for transportation safety gain relevance.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>For example, Jaimie Weinberger </span></span><span class="s1"><span>, a sales engineer at Motive, mentioned a common reality among fleet managers: a reliance on spreadsheets.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1"><span>This manual work, which includes downloading multiple spreadsheets and spending hours generating reports, means that key tasks such as </span><strong><span>driver training, preventive maintenance planning, and cross-departmental collaboration</span></strong><span> fall by the wayside.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Emily Parsons </span></span><span class="s1"><span>, Senior Product Manager at Motive, added that the goal of </span><strong><span>Motive Analytics</span></strong><span> is to simplify access to data without requiring advanced technical knowledge.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>During the panel </span><em><span>Shifting Gears: Navigating the Changing Regulatory Landscape</span></em><span> at </span><strong><span>Motive Vision 2025</span></strong><span> , experts discussed potential regulatory changes that could come with the new U.S. presidential administration, as well as current efforts to improve safety and efficiency in the industry.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Travis Baskin, head of Regulatory Affairs at </span><a href="https://gomotive.com/"><span>Motive</span></a><span> , addressed the </span></span><span class="s1"><span>impact of the change in administration on the regulatory agenda </span></span><span class="s2"><span>, particularly at the </span><strong><a href="https://www.usa.gov/es/agencias/administracion-federal-de-seguridad-de-autotransportes"><span>Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration</span></a><span> (FMCSA)</span></strong><span> .</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Sean Garney, co-principal of </span><a href="https://scopelitisconsulting.com/"><span>Scopelitis Transportation Consulting</span></a><span> , explained that while a confirmed administrator has not yet been named, the new administration is expected to continue a more deregulatory approach, focusing on streamlining existing rules rather than introducing new ones.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>He also highlighted that the latest revisions to the </span></span><strong><span class="s1"><span>Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA)</span></span></strong><span class="s2"><span> were well received and could help improve visibility and equity in carrier safety scores.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>For his part, Matt Camden, director of the Heavy Vehicle Safety Division at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, stressed that while political priorities may play a role, the </span></span><span class="s1"><span>FMCSA&#8217;s research agenda tends to remain stable </span></span><span class="s2"><span>due to the long-term nature of the studies; however, there is a </span><strong><span>growing focus on </span></strong></span><span class="s1"><strong><span>data collection that allows for greater flexibility</span></strong><span> for carriers </span></span><span class="s2"><span>.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>One of the notable studies is one that evaluates the impact of </span></span><span><span class="s1">driver </span></span><span class="s1"><strong><span>detention times</span></strong></span><span class="s2"><span> at loading and unloading facilities.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>This project, funded by the FMCSA and developed by VTTI and Motive, seeks to understand how these delays affect safety, schedule compliance, and operational performance.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Garney noted that while the study&#8217;s results don&#8217;t guarantee immediate changes, they can </span><strong><span>provide tools to justify future improvements or regulatory adjustments.</span></strong></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>“We all know that detention is a problem, but we need data that shows how large the impact is,” he said.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Baskin emphasized the need to involve all stakeholders in the logistics chain to address the problem of downtime.</span></span></p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>&#8220;We are at the mercy of the shippers. Neither the brokers, nor the receivers, nor the shippers themselves fully assume their responsibility,&#8221; he noted.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>To address this situation, he proposes using </span><strong><span>existing data to identify patterns and hold</span></strong><span> the appropriate actors accountable.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><strong><span class="s1"><span>Deregulation and innovation from the FMCSA</span></span></strong></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>On the other hand, Matt Camden stressed that one of the current priorities is </span><strong><span>to deregulate without compromising security</span></strong><span> .</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>“The Department of Transportation has asked for ideas to eliminate regulations, and many are already participating,” he said.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>He stated that the administration has an opportunity to innovate with creative and industry-savvy officials, and suggested that the random drug testing rate could be reduced from 50% to 25%, given that positivity rates have been below 1% for two consecutive years.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>“It would be a significant reduction in the regulatory burden,” Camden said.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Although flexibility is a priority, experts agreed that the focus on security will not disappear.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>“The DOT and FMCSA will remain committed to keeping carriers and operations safe,” said Matt Camden.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>In this regard, Sean Garney anticipates greater regulatory efficiency with the possible confirmation of Derek Barrs as FMCSA administrator.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>“Derek is already deeply immersed in the industry, so we won&#8217;t have to start from scratch,” he explained.</span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>He compared this potential continuity to the previous chaos, where new administrators lacked understanding of key programs like the CSA, delaying important decisions.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>He also mentioned that the new “10:1” regulatory model (one new regulation requires eliminating ten existing ones) represents a major challenge, but also an opportunity to do more with less.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Camden, on the other hand, expressed concern about whether the FMCSA will be able to keep up with the pace of innovation.</span></span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>This availability allows researchers to work with real-world data to improve policies without increasing the operational burden on carriers.</span></span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s2"><span>Among the adjustments that could be coming soon, Sean Garney mentioned greater flexibility in the CDL testing process, changes to the length of mandatory retention for certain records, improvements to the DataQs appeals process (FMCSA&#8217;s system), and a review of roadside warning device regulations, prompted by a lack of prior research.</span></span></p>
