Betase Logistics secured its participation in the movement of vehicles at the Puerto del Norte in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, an infrastructure project that aims to become a logistics hub for Monterrey, Nuevo León; Saltillo, Coahuila; and San Luis Potosí.

Cristian Betancourt, the company’s Director of Operations, told T21 that during the start of operations they carried out a cabotage movement with vehicles of different brands .

“There were 20 vehicles from Monterrey to Matamoros. We hope more units arrive and we can activate customs,” he said.

He mentioned that this new route will improve costs and transportation times for vehicles between the aforementioned destinations, and will also provide an option for managing these types of vehicles.

This new service is part of the company’s expansion to the port of Altamira, where they are seeking to establish a vehicle storage yard . Although this project is still under negotiation, they hope to finalize it this year.

It is worth remembering that Javier García Bejos, director of Special Projects for Latin America at Mota-Engil , a company that, together with the Tamaulipas Comprehensive Port Authority (API Tamaulipas), is carrying out the modernization of the infrastructure of the port of Matamoros, announced that they will invest more than four billion pesos to consolidate the T-MEC maritime terminal as a driver of trade, energy and industrial development.

“The design of the entire port area and its customs office guarantees that the port will consolidate its position as an agile, efficient, safe, and competitive alternative. Furthermore, we will implement an energy sustainability program that will allow us to minimize our carbon footprint by using solar energy and alternative solutions,” he explained.

The northern port is located 80 kilometers from the U.S. border and has a 3,800-meter navigation channel and a 138-meter pier, in addition to 324.94 hectares for port development and more than 100,000 hectares for industrial development.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that this new infrastructure “is a very important port. The highway to access the port of Matamoros needs to be expanded, but it has enormous potential.”
