After closing 2025 with a decline, the Mexican manufacturing industry would have rebounded in January 2026 , according to the Monthly Indicator of Manufacturing Activity (IMOAM), prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

In the first month of the year, the agency anticipated a slight  increase in manufacturing activity of 0.1%  compared to the same month in 2025.

In January 2026, the indicator showed a value of  104 points , as an advance calculation of the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI) of the manufacturing sector.

This result reflects that, amidst the tariff policy promoted by the United States, the Mexican manufacturing industry continues to show resilience in the face of global trade changes.

Economic activity advances

Meanwhile, the Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE) anticipated an annual increase of 2.3% in the Mexican economy in January 2026 , driven by the manufacturing industry and the services sector.

In its monthly measurement, the IOAE would also have shown a positive figure, registering an  increase of 0.3%  in the first month of the year.

By economic activity groups , an annual increase of 2.1% is expected in secondary activities – which include manufacturing and construction – and 2.2% in tertiary activities , which include services such as trade, transport and storage, communications, education and health.

On a monthly basis, the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) is projected to grow by 0.3% . Secondary activities are expected to increase by 0.4%, and tertiary activities by 0.3% in January 2026.

According to  KPMG , a consulting firm, Mexico is expected to have a mixed economic outlook this year, with opportunities in diversifying trade relationships, strengthening strategic logistics projects, and developing key industries such as manufacturing.

However, he indicated that a moderate slowdown with inflationary pressures is anticipated, “so it will be necessary to monitor the capacity of regional development to boost investment and productivity.”
