The transportation, communications, postal and storage sector  registered an annual drop of 238,027 jobs in Mexico during March 2026 , according to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE), carried out by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

According to the survey, Mexican logistics reported  3,555,074 jobs  in the third month of the year, while in March 2025 it was 3,793,101 , which meant a decline of 6.27% in the period.

According to the ENOE, in March 2026 the Economically Active Population (EAP) was 61.6 million people , an annual increase of 558,000 people.

By gender, the economic participation rate for women was 45.1% and for men 73.8%. Compared to March 2025, women’s participation decreased by 0.5 percentage points and men’s by 1.3 percentage points.

The employed population reached 60.2 million people (97.6% of the economically active population), an annual growth of 422,000 people.

By sector of economic activity, the employed population was distributed as follows: services concentrated 27 million people (44.9%); commerce 11.9 million (19.9%); manufacturing industry 9.4 million (15.6%); agriculture, livestock, forestry, hunting and fishing 6.3 million (10.4%); construction 4.6 million (7.7%); and other economic activities —which include mining, electricity, water and gas supply— 417 thousand (0.7%) in that period.

In the reference month, the unemployed population was 1.5 million people , representing 2.4% of the economically active population.

The economically inactive population (EIP) was 43.6 million people , an increase of 1.7 million people compared to March 2025.

In March 2026, the underemployed population —people who reported needing and being available to work more hours than their current job demands—was four million, 100,000 more than in March 2025. The underemployment rate stood at 6.7% of the employed population, an increase from 6.6% in March 2025.

During the cycle, the population employed in informal labor was 33 million people and the rate of informal labor was established at 54.8% of the employed population, a percentage higher than the 54.3% of March 2025.

On the other hand, employment in the informal sector was 17.7 million people , which meant 29.4% of the employed population, 0.4 percentage points above that recorded in the third month of 2025.

According to the ENOE of March 2026, employment in Mexico has remained resilient in the face of factors such as the uncertainty caused by the United States’ tariff policy, which has affected various productive sectors of the country.

However, the annual decline has been felt more acutely in the logistics sector , indicating a slowdown in the labor market in this industry associated with a slowed Mexican economy that has affected domestic consumption.

Given this, the logistics industry continues to undergo a period of readjustment due to the growth of activities such as e-commerce, which has been one of its drivers, with the demand for more warehousing and transportation services .
