Recent protests and road blockades have increased pressure on federal authorities to strengthen security coordination meetings. Although dialogue with the Mexican government has been ongoing throughout the year, truckers consider it urgent to accelerate responses to the rise in crime along several highway corridors, stated Héctor Romero, president of Círculo Logístico .

The sector reiterated that extortion and cargo theft continue to disrupt daily operations, especially in areas identified as hotspots: the State of Mexico , the San Pablo-Veracruz corridor , San Luis Potosí , the Bajío region (particularly Guanajuato), as well as a recent increase in Zacatecas and Durango . These stretches require greater surveillance and a more active presence of the National Guard , Romero explained to T21.

The meeting between representatives of the trucking industry and the security cabinet allowed for a review of progress and outstanding issues regarding highway surveillance. During the session, authorities from the Ministry of the Interior , the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, and the National Guard explained that they maintain active operations on 22 sections identified as high-risk in 12 states, Romero commented. Both parties agreed to maintain an ongoing dialogue and strengthen coordination to improve highway response.

The carriers want them to maintain clear strategies and continuity , as they believe that’s where real progress can be made.

One of the most sensitive issues, Romero pointed out, is the operation of checkpoints by the Attorney General’s Office in Tulancingo, Michoacán, and Jalisco , where inspections of vehicles (mainly gas and hydrocarbon trucks) often lead to extortion. He clarified that the inspections are necessary to confirm the legality of the product, “but without engaging in extortion.”

Another request was to expand coordination with state and municipal governments , a proposal that, according to Romero, has already been accepted by federal authorities, which would allow for more effective intervention in the sections where crime is concentrated.
