Inflation in the transportation, postal and storage sector in Mexico registered an increase in June 2026, which resulted in a rise in the country’s logistics prices , which increased 0.45% on a monthly basis, while in its annual measurement the curve was more upward, advancing 5.03% in the period.

This rebound is in line with the increase shown by the tertiary activities of the economy in the sixth month of the year with an advance of 0.21% monthly and 4.37% compared to June 2025, according to the National Producer Price Index (INPP), prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

According to the INPP, the subsectors that make up the transport, mail and storage sector had a differentiated behavior; however, most showed increases that impacted their operations.

Air cargo companies lowered their costs, showing decreases of 0.27% month-over-month and 2.21% year-over-year. This could be explained by the high demand for air freight to supply products such as snacks and goods related to the World Cup.

In June 2026, the  airport usage fee  decreased by 0.28% compared to the previous May, while the year-on-year rate showed an increase of 0.98%. Among the main reasons for this change was the increased passenger traffic due to the World Cup, held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

 The air cargo loading and unloading subsector  showed no monthly variation in its cost, although companies in the sector paid 3.07% more at an annual rate.

Rail freight rates remained  unchanged in June 2026 compared to May. Year-on-year, however, rates increased by 1.18 percent. This subsector remained virtually stable due to the sustained growth of industries such as automotive and manufacturing, which maintained demand for rail transport without generating extraordinary pressure on rates.

Maritime freight transport  grew 0.02% month-on-month and increased 1.24% year-on-year, reflecting relatively contained inflation. However, geopolitical risks, such as the conflict in the Middle East, persist and have prevented a reduction or normalization of international logistics costs for this type of transport. Meanwhile, port usage fees  rose 0.21% month-on-month and 4.90% year-on-year.

General freight trucking prices accelerated to 0.22% monthly in June 2026 and 3.71% year-on-year. This mode of transport has been pressured by volatility in diesel, maintenance, and vehicle renewal costs. Added to this is the increase in toll costs for trucks and buses  , which registered a 7.59% annual rise, although it remained unchanged month-on-month.

Customs agencies  and other freight forwarding services increased their service prices by 0.03% monthly; however, they showed a decrease of 0.06% year-on-year.

Parcel and courier services saw a 0.06% increase in June 2026 compared to May, while the annual rate rose by 4.69%. Meanwhile, cargo storage costs increased by 0.04% month-on-month and had an annual increase of 1.78%.

Mexican logistics continues to navigate rising tariffs and the pressure of inflation on the sector, compounded by international factors such as the conflict in the Middle East, which has increased fuel costs.

Driven by growth in secondary activities, the Mexican economy showed a slight monthly rebound in February 2026.

In the second month of the year, Mexican economic activity  increased 0.1% compared to January 2016 , according to the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE), prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

The monthly increase represented a recovery after the decline recorded in the first month of 2026, when the IGAE fell 0.7 percent.

On an annual basis, this indicator  decreased by 0.3 percent . The IGAE, which allows for monitoring and tracking the short-term evolution of the real sector of the economy, stood at 104.7 points.

By component, primary activities – agriculture, livestock and others – decreased by 0.3%; while  secondary activities – which include manufacturing and construction – increased by 0.4% monthly.

Meanwhile,  tertiary activities , which involve services – including the  transport, postal and storage sectors – fell 0.1% in February 2026 compared to last January.

At an annual rate, primary activities grew 2.3%, secondary activities decreased 1.3%, and tertiary activities increased 0.2 percent.

In February 2026, the transportation, postal, and warehousing sector grew by 0.1% compared to the previous January . In its annual measurement,   Mexico’s  logistics industry also showed positive figures, with a 0.3% increase  in its economic activity, according to the IGAE (Global Indicator of Economic Activity).

The increase in economic activity in Mexico is giving positive, albeit still cautious, signs in a trade environment framed by tariff uncertainty and geopolitical conflicts such as the one in the Middle East.

The IGAE allows us to understand and monitor the evolution of the real sector of the economy in the short term, so its measurement is key for economic decision-making.

El cargo Manufacturing industry drives economic activity in Mexico during February apareció primero en T21.

Driven by growth in primary, secondary, and tertiary activities on a monthly basis, the Mexican economy showed a rebound both monthly and annually in October 2025.

In the tenth month of 2025, Mexican economic activity increased by 1% compared to September 2024 , which meant the highest growth rate so far this year, according to the  Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) , prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

In its annual measurement, this indicator registered a rise of 1.6 percent . The IGAE, which allows for monitoring and tracking the evolution of the real sector of the economy in the short term, stood at a level of 105.6 points.

By component, primary activities , which include agriculture and livestock, increased by 1.4%; while  secondary activities , which include manufacturing and construction, also increased by 0.7% monthly.

Meanwhile,  tertiary activities , which involve services – including the  transport, postal and storage sectors – registered an increase of 1.2% in October 2025 compared to last September.

On an annual basis, primary activities grew 11.8%, secondary activities decreased 0.7%, and tertiary activities increased 2.5%.

The transportation, postal, and warehousing sector grew 0.9% compared to last September . In its annual measurement,  Mexico’s logistics industry  also showed positive figures, with a  1.9% increase  in economic activity, according to the IGAE (Global Indicator of Economic Activity).

The increase in economic activity in Mexico gives positive signs in this area, in a trade environment framed by tariff uncertainty.

Manufacturing activity expected to decline in November

Amid the protectionist trade policy of the United States, Mexican manufacturing activity would have experienced an annual decline in November 2025, according to data from the Monthly Indicator of Manufacturing Activity (IMOAM) .

The report, prepared by Inegi, anticipated a drop of 1.8%  compared to the same month last year.

In the penultimate month of the year, the IMOAM registered a value of  104.9 points , as an advance calculation of this indicator.

El cargo Mexican economic activity advances in October; logistics sector grows apareció primero en T21.

The  transport, mail and storage sector , which is part of the tertiary activities of the economy, stood at 114.8 points in August 2025, an increase of 0.2%  compared to last July, according to the  Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) , carried out by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

Mexico’s logistics industry also   showed positive annual performance, registering a  0.3% increase  in activity, according to the IGAE results.

The IGAE (National Institute of Statistics and Census) allows for the identification and monitoring of short-term developments in the real sector of the economy, according to INEGI.

In the eighth month of the year, this indicator grew by 0.6% monthly, while the annual rate remained unchanged at 105.1 points.

Within the IGAE,  primary activities , such as agriculture and livestock, grew 14.5%, while  secondary activities , which include manufacturing and construction, fell 0.3% monthly.

Tertiary activities ,  which involve the services sector, registered a 0.5% increase in August 2025 compared to last July.

On an annual basis, primary activities increased by 15.3%, secondary activities fell by 2.7%, and tertiary activities grew by 0.8%.

Despite the economic restructuring resulting from tariffs around the world, the slight rebound achieved last August signals a moderate improvement in the Mexican economy, driven by activities such as agriculture and services, which showed monthly growth .

With the August result, the IGAE recorded an increase compared to July 2025, when it fell 0.9% monthly and decreased 1.2% annually.

Compared to 2023, when the transportation, mail and storage sector registered an FDI of 2,283.5 million dollars , last year this industry showed an increase of 19.6 percent .

Although the influx of foreign investment received by logistics in 2024 was significant, it was not the highest amount.

In 2022, when some restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic were ending , the sector registered an FDI of 3,684.8 million dollars , which has been the largest disbursement so far since 2006. It was followed by 2017 with 3,305.3 million dollars and 2021 with 2,973.9 million dollars .

According to the Ministry of Economy, the subsector that received the most FDI from 2006 to 2024 was pipeline transportation , which accumulated to US$18,439.7 billion . In 2021 alone, it received US$2,258.9 billion in foreign investment , the highest in the period.

In 2024, which marked the end of Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s (AMLO)six-year term and the beginning of that of Mexico’s current president, Claudia Sheinbaum , Foreign Direct Investment in pipeline transportation was 2,251.1 million dollars , which represented a 6.1% share of total FDI last year.

Compared to 2023, when foreign companies invested 1,924.8 million dollars, FDI in 2024 in the aforementioned subsector increased by 16.9 percent .

This subsector showed declines in FDI capture from 2018 to 2020, when AMLO governed, who limited the participation of foreign investment in hydrocarbon exploration, as well as in storage and transportation, however, starting in 2021 it began to improve due to the start of some projects or the continuation of others, such as the Dos Bocas refinery in Tabasco .

Transportation-related services are another subsector with the highest share of FDI. In 2024, it received investments totaling US$277.1 million , a 15.5%drop compared to 2023, when it reached US$328.2 million .

Last year’s figure represented 0.8% of Mexico’s total foreign direct investment. 2014 was the best year for this subsector, attracting $368.9 million .

Courier and parcel services recorded FDI of $111.6 million last year, representing a 148% increase compared to 2023, when it totaled $45 million.

The 2024 figure represented a 0.3% share of last year’s total FDI; while in 2019, this subsector recorded its best year of Foreign Direct Investment, totaling $318.1 million .

According to information from the DataMéxico portal of the SE, from January 1999 to December 2024, the countries that have contributed the most to FDI in this subsector were the Netherlands and Germany with 295 million dollarseach, as well as the United States with 292 million dollars .

FDI in air transport accounted for 0.2% of its total in 2024 , reaching US$64.3 million . However, in 2023, there was no foreign capital investment.

The best year for this subsector in terms of FDI was in 2022, reaching US$2,131.3 million , driven mainly by air cargo transport.

According to the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) , the volume of cargo transported increased 4.8% during the first half of 2022 compared to the previous year, reaching 374,470 tons in international operations.

The states with the greatest opportunity for development in air transportation are Coahuila, Querétaro, and Colima, according to the DataMéxico portal.

Rail transport reported FDI of $7.2 million in 2024; its best years in terms of foreign direct investment were 2015 with $826.5 million and 2022 with $614.3 million . This subsector did not register FDI in 2023.

According to DataMéxico, Canada was the leading country investing in this subsector in Mexico last year. Meanwhile, Nuevo León, Aguascalientes, and Mexico City were the states that received the most FDI during the period.

In 2024 , water transport saw FDI of $1.5 million (distributed across reinvestment of profits, new investments, and intercompany accounts), marking a rebound after negative figures in this subsector of -$174 million in 2022 and – $25.9 million in 2023, according to the SE.

According to the federal agency, 2007 was the year in which this subsector captured the most FDI, totaling US$619.7 million .

Other subsectors, such as  freight transport, registered zero FDI inflow in 2024, while storage services had a 0% share , with its best year being 2018 with 20.5 million dollars .

The surge in FDI last year indicates that the logistics industry is one of the driving forces of the Mexican economy, boosting growth, creating jobs, and improving competitiveness and local and foreign trade.

This sector facilitates the movement of goods, both within and outside the country, and helps companies optimize processes, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.

The logistics market in Mexico is estimated to have reached a value of $1,270.27 billion in 2024, and is expected to grow at an annual rate of 10.2% between 2025 and 2034, reaching $3,044.59 billion by the end of this period, according to the consulting firm Expert Market Research .
