Grupo México Transportes (GMXT), the federal government, and the government of Jalisco signed an agreement to carry out the complementary works of Line 4 of the Light Rail, which will run from Guadalajara to Tlajomulco.

“The purpose of the specific agreement is to coordinate and establish the terms and general conditions for the construction of the works, which are necessary for the proper coexistence of various modes of transportation and the public passenger rail transportation service, in the mode of regular urban,” reported the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) through the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).

It recalled that on April 30, 2020, the parties signed the Framework Coordination and Action Concertation Agreement, with the purpose of establishing the mechanisms to be followed for said project when technical, legal, environmental, and financial feasibility information would be available.

The project consists of building a railway corridor for a 21.1-kilometer passenger train, which will be constructed if possible, within the existing right-of-way of the North Pacific railway line, parallel to the current track for the Line I’ cargo system of Fray Angélico, located in the Miravalle neighborhood, San Pedro Tlaquepaque, Jalisco (km I-226+400), to the Tlajomulco de Zúñiga station, Jalisco, located in said municipality (km I-287+200).

The document identified the need to build 17 complementary works related to it that will be carried out by Ferromex, which consist of five vehicular underpasses, five pedestrian accesses to the different stations, six pedestrian overpasses, and signaling for a level crossing at the intersection with Prolongación Escobedo roadway.

“This is to guarantee the mobility of pedestrians and residents of the surrounding areas, as well as the proper coexistence of different modes of transportation along the project route,” it said.

According to the government of Jalisco, Line 4 will run parallel to the existing strip of land leased to Ferromex. Therefore, it will be the first passenger transport route in Mexico to be incorporated into the right-of-way of the freight train.

It will have eight stations from the limits of Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque, in Miravalle, connecting with the Fray Angélico station of Mi Macro Calzada, to the Center of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga. It will be a fully electric train, with zero carbon emissions aligning with the objectives of the Metropolitan Climate Action Plan (PACMetro) and the State Program of Action against Climate Change (PEACC).

It is estimated to initially serve 106,000 daily users. Along the route, there are currently 275,000 people living and various businesses, warehouses, and industrial buildings.
