LATAM Airlines Group closed a loan for approximately $505 million to finance the addition of 11 aircraft to its fleet with deliveries in the second half of 2026.

“This transaction combines three elements relevant to LATAM’s financial strategy: it diversifies our sources of financing, supports the renewal and growth of our fleet, and links some of its terms to our sustainability performance. Furthermore, it allows us to finance the acquisition of Embraer aircraft for the first time through this structure, while maintaining our access to long-term competitive terms in international markets,” explained Andrés del Valle, the company’s Director of Corporate Finance.

He specified that of the total transaction, $400 million corresponds to sustainability-related financing . The deal includes one Airbus A320neo, four A321neos, and six Embraer E195-E2s, and involves a long-term loan structure led by BNP Paribas .

The agreement represents the first transaction of its kind for LATAM’s Embraer fleet and allows the group to access competitive long-term financing in a context of market volatility and high fuel costs.

The loan includes interest rate incentives tied to the company’s emissions performance. This means that as the group makes progress in reducing the amount of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emitted per unit transported, its emissions intensity will qualify for more favorable financing terms. Furthermore, these incentives align with the LATAM group’s sustainability goals, which aim to reduce its emissions intensity by 6% by 2030 compared to 2019 levels and move toward its objective of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

He noted that this is the second operation of this type carried out by the company , since in December 2024 it closed its first Sustainability-Linked Loan, a revolving credit line guaranteed by engines for 300 million dollars.

This agreement is in addition to the fleet renewal plan that the LATAM group is developing during 2026 .

In the first half of the year, it added 13 state-of-the-art aircraft and projects receiving another 28 before the end of the year, exceeding 40 annual additions. With this, the group expects to end 2026 with more than 410 aircraft.

In the coming months , the Embraer E195-E2 will be incorporated for the first time into Brazil’s domestic network, while in 2027 the company’s first Airbus A321XLR will debut.

By 2030, LATAM plans to add up to 130 more aircraft, meaning that more than 50% of its fleet will be state-of-the-art. According to their manufacturers, these models reduce CO₂ emissions by 20% to 25% compared to previous generations, contributing to the progress toward the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

LATAM Airlines Group added 13 state-of-the-art aircraft to its fleet and plans to receive another 28 before the end of 2026, which will close the year with more than 40 new aircraft of this type, strengthening its operational efficiency and capacity.

“Fleet renewal is one of the most important investments we are making as a group, because it allows us to grow more efficiently and better respond to the region’s connectivity needs. South America has domestic markets with enormous potential for development, and having a more flexible and diverse fleet gives us the reach we need to be there,” said Sebastián Acuto, Vice President of Fleet and Projects at LATAM Airlines Group.

By the end of 2026, LATAM projects reaching 410 delivered aircraft , consolidating one of the largest commercial fleets in the world. In the second half of the year, it will continue receiving Airbus A320neo, A321neo, and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft , which will be joined, for the first time, by Embraer E190-E2s. These will strengthen the domestic network in Brazil, providing greater operational flexibility to serve different markets.

The fleet renewal plan will continue in 2027 with the addition of new aircraft, including the first Airbus A321XLR that LATAM will operate. This model will allow for expanded range on nonstop medium-haul routes, opening new connectivity opportunities for South America.

By the end of the decade, LATAM plans to add up to 130 additional aircraft from various manufacturers. This will mean that by 2030, more than 50% of its fleet will consist of state-of-the-art models.

These aircraft allow for a reduction of between 20% and 25% in carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions compared to previous generations, according to data from their manufacturers, in addition to optimizing fuel consumption, contributing to an increasingly efficient operation and to the LATAM group’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

El cargo LATAM Airlines “takes off” in the modernization and expansion of its fleet apareció primero en T21.

LATAM Airlines Group completed its first 13 passenger charter flights using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) , a project that is part of its sustainability strategy and its goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

The flights operated between Santiago, Chile, and Ushuaia, Argentina , and were allocated 22,400 gallons of SAF (Safety and Fuel Oil) under the Book and Claim chain of custody methodology . This initiative marks the airline’s first emissions reduction project associated with passenger charter operations, developed in partnership with a client.

“This operation together with Ponant Explorations demonstrates that today there are already concrete mechanisms for our customers to be part of the reduction of emissions associated with their air operations, while we continue to promote the development and adoption of sustainable aviation fuels in the region,” said Thibaud Morand, LATAM Airlines’ general manager for Europe, Asia and Oceania.

He explained that the reduction of 160 tons of emissions was calculated following the methodology established by CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation), of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) , comparing the emission factors of the Jet-A1 fossil fuel with those of the SAF used.

“This collaboration with LATAM represents another step in our commitment to more sustainable tourism,” commented Wassim Daoud, Director of CSR and Sustainable Development at Ponant Explorations.

LATAM Airlines Group is working on fleet modernization, operational efficiency, promoting the use of SAF and offsetting emissions through strategic projects for the region as a complementary measure.

For an aviation company, fuel represents between 30% and 40% of operating costs, so SAF is an alternative to achieve its sustainability goals.

LATAM Airlines Group continues to advance its growth and fleet modernization plan, projecting to exceed 400 aircraft this year, following the addition of 41 new planes , including the first Embraer aircraft , intended to strengthen the domestic network in Brazil and provide greater operational flexibility in that market.

He recalled that at the close of 2025, the group reached 371 aircraft , after incorporating 26 new planes during the year, all of the latest generation, positioning itself among the 12 airlines with the largest fleet in the world.

Looking ahead to 2027, the company expects to add 27 additional aircraft, including the first Airbus XLR , a model that will allow for extended range on medium-haul routes.

By 2030, LATAM Airlines plans to add more than 130 new aircraft from various manufacturers. With this addition, it projects that more than 50% of its fleet—at least 200 aircraft—will consist of state-of-the-art models.

Acuto commented that this will allow for a reduction of between 20% and 25% in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions compared to previous models, in addition to optimizing fuel consumption, according to data from the manufacturers.

With these advances, the firm consolidates one of the largest and most modern fleets in the region, reinforcing its competitive position and its commitment to efficiency and sustainability towards net zero emissions by 2050.
