After nearly two decades of service at Toyota Motor de México (TDM ) , Luis Lozano announced his retirement as company president. However, he will remain with the company in a new role as executive consultant , where he will advise on regulatory, legislative, and strategic issues that impact the brand’s operations in the country.

His successor will be Takaaki Kuga , who was vice president of Corporate Strategy and Business Development at Toyota Mexico, according to a statement issued by the company.

With a 20-year career at Toyota , Kuga has held a variety of key roles within the company. He joined Toyota Motor Corporation in 2004, holding strategic positions in the United States, Japan, and Mexico . His notable roles include helping plan the Toyota-Mazda alliance in Mexico, as well as leading the launch of Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Guanajuato in 2016.

Sandra Phillips, Senior Vice President, Business Integrity, Chief Sustainability Officer, and General Counsel, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA), highlighted Kuga’s global and regional experience, noting that her leadership will strengthen Toyota’s presence in the country.

Toyota de México, which began operations in 2002, has two manufacturing plants in Tijuana, Baja California, and Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato . In 2024, the company produced more than 245,000 vehicles for the North American region and sold 121,968 units in the country.
