The fitness industry in Mexico continues to expand, and with more than 10,000 gyms registered in 2023, according to IHRSA data , the demand for equipment becomes key for the sector with companies such as Matrix Fitness , which is part of the Johnson Health Tech Group , which has recently strengthened its operation with the opening of a new distribution center (cedis) in Querétaro.

This center, with more than 10,000 square meters , is located in the Airport Industrial Park , a strategic location that improves delivery times and guarantees the availability of spare parts throughout the country.

Leopoldo Torres , CEO of Matrix Fitness Mexico, explained in an interview that the choice of Querétaro is due to several factors.

“The square meter is cheaper than in Mexico City, and the overcrowding in the capital made operations difficult. Now we can more efficiently supply the center and north of the country, where the demand for gym equipment is very high ,” Torres said.

This is because the north of the country is a key region for the brand, as the influence of the U.S. market has driven a stronger fitness culture in cities like Monterrey, Tijuana, and Chihuahua.

Matrix Fitness’s logistics have been transformed to respond more quickly to market needs.

Thanks to this new distribution center, which pays into the company’s property in Mexico City, delivery times have been reduced from one week to just two days in urgent cases , representing a key competitive advantage.

Additionally, the location within an industrial park allows for safer and more efficient handling of shipments.

“We have greater capacity to receive trailers, schedule overnight loading, and ensure the security of the merchandise ,” the executive added.

Matrix Fitness has also implemented several improvements to its supply chain to ensure more efficient logistics, including the incorporation of SAP and RFID technology for more precise inventory control.

“We’ve migrated to a SAP system and are using RFID to manage incoming and outgoing merchandise. We’ve also hired staff with experience working in large companies like Colgate-Palmolive, which has allowed us to improve our processes and make them more efficient ,” explained Leopoldo Torres.

By 2025, Matrix Fitness plans to equip more than 1,000 new units in Mexico , a growth that poses challenges in storage, distribution, and technical service.

The company has responded to these challenges with a comprehensive strategy , starting with the expansion of its distribution network , with more than 20 thousand square meters in Mexico.

On the other hand, it seeks to automate logistics processes to improve inventory accuracy and optimize delivery times; and to train technicians specialized in equipment maintenance, a key service in the industry.

Globally, Johnson Health Tech has also strengthened its manufacturing with a new plant in Vietnam , aiming to optimize production and reduce logistics costs.

This expansion seeks to mitigate the impact of trade tariffs and ensure the supply of key components.
