Although the projected volume of mobilized cargo is expected to reach 550,000 tons by 2025 , progressive growth is estimated for subsequent years.
Furthermore, it is necessary to create an attractive commercial environment that reduces both dispatch times and logistics costs.
As T21 reported, and according to Héctor Rubio Antonio, deputy director of operations at FIT, this test would involve transporting 600 Hyundai vehicles , the largest South Korean automobile manufacturer.

Meanwhile, the Oaxaca government, through its social media channels, announced that after 90 years, “we are making history by hosting the first interoceanic vehicle crossing. With infrastructure and leadership, the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Interoceanic Corridor is now a logistics hub connecting Mexico to the world and consolidating Oaxaca as the engine of development in the south-southeast of the country.”

It should be noted that the vehicles were subsequently transported by rail to Coatzacoalcos and from there boarded a ship to reach the east coast of the United States.

“This morning (Sunday), the unloading of Hyundai vehicles began as part of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Interoceanic Corridor strategy. The first Korean vehicles began to be located at the Port of Coatzacoalcos’s front dock No. 5. They arrived yesterday afternoon in approximately 50 Bi-Max vans directly from the Port of Salina Cruz,” Asipona Coatzacoalcos detailed through its social media.

The Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) has requested 65,595.6 million pesos to carry out the comprehensive rehabilitation, improvement, supplies, replacement, and modernization of the FA and K rail lines of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Railroad (FIT).

According to the documents sent to its counterpart at the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), it requires 20,918.5 million pesos for the works on the FA Line from Coatzacoalcos to Palenque, and the Roberto Ayala to Dos Bocas branch.”

Source: Navy

In this stretch, actions will be taken on bridges, tracks, supply centers, earthworks, drainage works, yards, workshops, sidings, stations, and equipment.

It was pointed out that this aims to provide greater security, improve operational efficiency and travel times, increase the volume of net tons transported and operating income, as well as provide accessibility and mobility to the populations connected by this line.

“The FIT will be a viable option for passengers, trade, and industry in the region along the line, by offering the transfer of goods from the Gulf of Mexico to the Yucatan Peninsula from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean, safely and efficiently, in addition to contributing to connectivity and economic development in the south,” he said.

However, he noted that there are risks such as delays in the executive project, delays in the awarding of contracts, challenges, and abandonment of the work by the contractor, design of the route, among others.

Although he emphasized that currently there are construction engineers “capable of carrying out the project, and in the area, there is qualified labor according to the necessary activities, so it is not necessary to import labor of any kind, so there are no additional costs in this area.”

For Line K, the Navy requested 44,677 million pesos for works from Km 0+000 to Km 447+286, and 13 kilometers from Los Toros to Tapachula, which include bridges, tracks, supply centers, earthworks, drainage works, yards, workshops, sidings, stations, and equipment.
