The Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE), prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , anticipated a  1.1% year-on-year increase in the country’s economic activity during the fifth month of the year. On a  monthly basis , the indicator would have remained unchanged.

The year-on-year increase signals  moderate economic expansion in Mexico , despite ongoing global trade fluctuations and geopolitical conflicts such as those in the Middle East. However, caution remains.

According to the Inegi report,  by economic activity groups , an annual increase of 0.7% is expected in  secondary activities , which include the manufacturing and construction industries.

In the  tertiary sector , which includes services such as commerce, transportation and storage, communications, education, and healthcare, an annual increase of 1.7% is projected. Furthermore, a 1.1% increase in the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) is anticipated, also on an annual basis.

In its monthly measurement, the IGAE and tertiary activities are expected to show no variation; while a decrease in secondary activities of 0.2% is estimated for May 2026.

According to Inegi, the IOAE is a statistical tool that allows anticipating the behavior of the IGAE, as well as secondary and tertiary activities, up to five weeks in advance.

Its measurement is important, as it allows for a preliminary view of economic behavior in order to make informed decisions for better planning in this area.

Mexican economic activity is expected to have shown positive performance in both its monthly and annual measurements in April 2026, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

According to the Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE), the country’s economic activity grew by 0.3% in the fourth month of the year compared to March. The IOAE estimated an annual increase of 0.3%.

By economic activity groups, an annual decrease of 1% is expected by April 2026 in secondary activities (manufacturing and construction), and an increase of 0.7% in tertiary activities (trade, transport and storage, communications, education and health).

According to Inegi, the Timely Indicator of Economic Activity allows for timely econometric estimates on the evolution of the IGAE, as well as secondary and tertiary activities.

On a monthly basis, a 0.3% increase is anticipated in the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE). A 0.3% increase is projected for secondary activities and a 0.3% increase for tertiary activities in April of this year.

According to estimates from Grupo Financiero BASE , Mexico could have an economic growth of just 1% in 2026 , reflecting a sluggish economic environment.

According to CIAL Dun & Bradstreet , the Mexican economy needs to strengthen investment and productivity to counteract industrial fragility and take advantage of international trade opportunities.

Due to an advance in tertiary activities such as trade, and transport and storage, Mexico’s economic activity would have rebounded at an annual rate in March 2026, although it would have stagnated in its monthly measurement.

The  Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE) , compiled by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , anticipated a slight increase of 0.5% in Mexican economic activity in the third month of this year compared to March 2025. On a monthly basis, the IOAE remained unchanged.

By economic activity groups, an annual increase of 1.1% is expected in the tertiary sector (which includes services such as commerce, transport and storage, communications, education and health), and a decrease of 0.5% in the secondary sector (manufacturing and construction industry).

The estimates include 95% confidence intervals and correspond to seasonally adjusted figures, Inegi indicated.

On a monthly basis, the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) is expected to show no change. A 0.1% increase is projected for secondary activities and a 0.1% decrease for tertiary activities by March 2026.

Although the Mexican economy is beginning to show signs of recovery, industry analysts estimate a still cautious outlook for 2026.

In that regard, BBVA Research projected a slight advance for the Mexican economy this year, derived from various factors such as an improvement in consumption and investment.

“We have revised our GDP growth forecast for 2026 upwards to 1.8% (from 1.2% previously), given the resilience of consumption and the recovery of investment. After a weak 2025, formal employment is beginning to improve,” he stated.

After closing 2025 with a decline, the Mexican manufacturing industry would have rebounded in January 2026 , according to the Monthly Indicator of Manufacturing Activity (IMOAM), prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

In the first month of the year, the agency anticipated a slight  increase in manufacturing activity of 0.1%  compared to the same month in 2025.

In January 2026, the indicator showed a value of  104 points , as an advance calculation of the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI) of the manufacturing sector.

This result reflects that, amidst the tariff policy promoted by the United States, the Mexican manufacturing industry continues to show resilience in the face of global trade changes.

Economic activity advances

Meanwhile, the Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE) anticipated an annual increase of 2.3% in the Mexican economy in January 2026 , driven by the manufacturing industry and the services sector.

In its monthly measurement, the IOAE would also have shown a positive figure, registering an  increase of 0.3%  in the first month of the year.

By economic activity groups , an annual increase of 2.1% is expected in secondary activities – which include manufacturing and construction – and 2.2% in tertiary activities , which include services such as trade, transport and storage, communications, education and health.

On a monthly basis, the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) is projected to grow by 0.3% . Secondary activities are expected to increase by 0.4%, and tertiary activities by 0.3% in January 2026.

According to  KPMG , a consulting firm, Mexico is expected to have a mixed economic outlook this year, with opportunities in diversifying trade relationships, strengthening strategic logistics projects, and developing key industries such as manufacturing.

However, he indicated that a moderate slowdown with inflationary pressures is anticipated, “so it will be necessary to monitor the capacity of regional development to boost investment and productivity.”

By economic activity groups, an annual decrease of 1.5% is expected in secondary activities (manufacturing and construction), and an increase of 0.8% in tertiary activities, which include services such as trade, transport and storage, communications, education and health.

On a monthly basis, a 0.2% decrease is anticipated in the  Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) . A 0.3% decline is projected for secondary activities and a 0.1% decline for tertiary activities by November of this year.

According to estimates from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) , the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would barely grow 0.4% in 2025 , due to tariff uncertainty, weak domestic consumption and a drop in investment.

In presenting the  Preliminary Overview of the Economies of Latin America and the Caribbean 2025 , the organization also projected that  the Mexican economy could grow 1.3% in 2026 , due to factors such as greater trade certainty, as well as the possible ratification of the  United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA)  and the positive effects of the World Cup on tourism.

The  Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE) , prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , anticipated that there were no changes in Mexican economic activity in the tenth month of the year, both on a monthly and annual basis.

By economic activity groups , an annual decrease of 2.1% is expected in secondary activities – made up of manufacturing and construction – and an increase of 0.9% in tertiary activities, which include services such as trade, transport and storage, communications, education and health.

In its monthly measurement, the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) also remains unchanged. A 0.1% increase is projected for secondary activities, while a 0.2% decrease is expected for tertiary activities in October of this year.

The stagnation of the Mexican economy in October occurred in a context of constant tariff changes worldwide; however, projections from international organizations, such as the World Bank , have improved the growth estimate for Mexico.

According to the organization’s forecasts, the Mexican economy would grow by 0.5% in 2025, driven by domestic consumption.

By economic activity group, an annual decline of 0.8% is expected in secondary industries, which include manufacturing and construction,   in the aforementioned month.

In tertiary activities , which include services such as commerce, transportation and communications, education and health, an annual increase of 1.5% is expected.

On a monthly basis, no changes are expected in the  Global Economic Activity Indicator (GEI)  for secondary activities; tertiary activities are expected to decline by  0.1%  for April of this year.

The upward trend in economic activity in April follows declines in February and March 2025, after a positive start to the year with a slight increase of 1.8% at an annual rate last January.

The April IOAE figures come at a time when the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) stood at 3.93% annually in the fourth month of 2025, marking a third consecutive month of inflation in Mexico.

They also occur during a period of uncertainty caused by a US-led tariff policy that has spread throughout the world, pending what will happen after a 90-day truce.

According to INEGI, the IOAE provides timely econometric estimates of the evolution of the Global Economic Activity Indicator, as well as secondary and tertiary activities.
