Technology is no longer just a competitive advantage, but the indispensable basis for the survival of companies in today’s market, specialists agreed during the panel Supply Chain 4.0: When AI and omnichannel redefine distribution , organized within the framework of Breakfast Logistics of #SoyLogístico Association .

At the event, the panelists emphasized that technology and talent development are cornerstones for companies to remain competitive.

Miguel Jiménez, Operations and Supply Chain Manager at Pinsa Comercial , explained that omnichannel is not just a sales strategy, but a true logistical commitment. He emphasized that the modern consumer doesn’t distinguish between channels, but expects their needs to be met efficiently.

“It’s important to understand that omnichannel is a concept that applies here. All those blurred lines that began to disappear in the omnichannel world remain for us; our role as logistics providers is to ensure a positive customer experience,” he emphasized.

Regarding artificial intelligence (AI), the speakers presented the concept of intelligent agents , described as “ software , an assistant that will take actions on my behalf.” These agents are capable of interacting with warehouse management systems (WMS) and transportation management systems (TMS) to make autonomous decisions.

The implementation of these agents will also benefit security and traceability, as they will allow real-time monitoring of units and transform risk prevention data into value for customers.

Regarding whether AI will displace the workforce, Juan Arévalo Carranza, CEO and head of digital supply at Baz Entregas / Elektra , believes that this technology will indeed replace jobs and that we will have to prepare for a widespread implementation of AI.

“The reality is that AI is going to replace many of us. We shouldn’t be telling people that it will only enhance their skills; the truth is that it will change our lives and improve them. So, if we want to demand something, we have to prepare ourselves; we have to promote the growing presence of AI in companies,” he stated.

For his part, José Ambe, CEO of Logística de México (LDM) , said that AI is a tool that will optimize tasks and make operations more effective .

“AI will not be this demon that will replace people, it will not be what will make people lose their jobs, but on the contrary, it will be this great tool that professional groups in the supply chain can use to make the results of operations more effective,” he reflected.

The panel concluded that digital transformation is not optional and requires a shift in mindset from senior management to be effective . Future success will depend on companies’ ability to integrate collaborative logistics and advanced technology.
