In July 2026, prices in the transportation, postal and storage sector in Mexico registered an increase of 0.70% compared to last June and also had an annual increase of 4.19% , due to the increase in the cost of inputs and fuels, mainly, during the period, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) announced .

The upturn in the cycle reflected the advance in inflation shown by the tertiary activities of the Mexican economy – which include services such as education, tourism and logistics – in the seventh month of the year, with a monthly growth of 0.34% and an annual growth of 4.14% , according to the National Producer Price Index (INPP).

According to the INPP, air cargo companies  lowered their prices, showing decreases of 1.50% month-on-month and 2.51% year-on-year. This decline stemmed from a market slowdown following the conclusion of the World Cup, due to reduced freight traffic and uncertainty surrounding international trade disputes.

In July 2026, the  airport usage fee increased by 1.62% compared to the previous June, while the year-on-year increase was 3.46%. The main reasons for this increase include operating and infrastructure costs , higher passenger traffic due to the World Cup, and the start of the holiday season.

The air cargo loading and unloading subsector   saw a 0.01% monthly increase in costs. On an annual basis, companies in the sector paid 3.08% more.

Rail freight rates remained unchanged in July 2026 compared to June. Year-on-year, however, they increased by 1.18 percent. This subsector remained virtually stable due to the sustained growth of industries such as automotive and manufacturing, which maintained demand for rail transport.

Maritime freight transport grew 0.07% month-on-month and increased 1.86% year-on-year, reflecting relatively contained inflation, although geopolitical risks, such as the conflict in the Middle East, remain. Meanwhile, port usage fees rose 0.64% month-on-month and 5.58% year-on-year.

Prices for  general freight trucking accelerated to 0.42% monthly in July 2026 and 3.84% year-on-year. This mode of transport has been pressured by the rise in the cost of petroleum-derived inputs, such as diesel, and tires. Added to this is the increase in toll costs for trucks and buses , with a 7.59% annual rise, although the monthly measurement showed no change.

Customs agencies  and other freight forwarding services increased the price of their service by 0.08% monthly and 0.33% annually.

Parcel and courier services  saw a 0.42% increase in July 2026 compared to June, while the annual rate rose by 4.50%. Meanwhile,  cargo storage costs increased by 1.25% month-on-month and had an annual increase of 2.57%.

The conflict in the Middle East, fleet maintenance, the review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) , the increase in fuel prices, and other factors have influenced the increase in the costs of the country’s logistics services.

According to the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (Comce) Northeast chapter , between 2015 and 2025, the costs of transporting and storing goods in Mexico increased by 72%, showing an upward adjustment in the price of these services.

Inflation in the transportation, postal and storage sector in Mexico registered an increase in June 2026, which resulted in a rise in the country’s logistics prices , which increased 0.45% on a monthly basis, while in its annual measurement the curve was more upward, advancing 5.03% in the period.

This rebound is in line with the increase shown by the tertiary activities of the economy in the sixth month of the year with an advance of 0.21% monthly and 4.37% compared to June 2025, according to the National Producer Price Index (INPP), prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

According to the INPP, the subsectors that make up the transport, mail and storage sector had a differentiated behavior; however, most showed increases that impacted their operations.

Air cargo companies lowered their costs, showing decreases of 0.27% month-over-month and 2.21% year-over-year. This could be explained by the high demand for air freight to supply products such as snacks and goods related to the World Cup.

In June 2026, the  airport usage fee  decreased by 0.28% compared to the previous May, while the year-on-year rate showed an increase of 0.98%. Among the main reasons for this change was the increased passenger traffic due to the World Cup, held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

 The air cargo loading and unloading subsector  showed no monthly variation in its cost, although companies in the sector paid 3.07% more at an annual rate.

Rail freight rates remained  unchanged in June 2026 compared to May. Year-on-year, however, rates increased by 1.18 percent. This subsector remained virtually stable due to the sustained growth of industries such as automotive and manufacturing, which maintained demand for rail transport without generating extraordinary pressure on rates.

Maritime freight transport  grew 0.02% month-on-month and increased 1.24% year-on-year, reflecting relatively contained inflation. However, geopolitical risks, such as the conflict in the Middle East, persist and have prevented a reduction or normalization of international logistics costs for this type of transport. Meanwhile, port usage fees  rose 0.21% month-on-month and 4.90% year-on-year.

General freight trucking prices accelerated to 0.22% monthly in June 2026 and 3.71% year-on-year. This mode of transport has been pressured by volatility in diesel, maintenance, and vehicle renewal costs. Added to this is the increase in toll costs for trucks and buses  , which registered a 7.59% annual rise, although it remained unchanged month-on-month.

Customs agencies  and other freight forwarding services increased their service prices by 0.03% monthly; however, they showed a decrease of 0.06% year-on-year.

Parcel and courier services saw a 0.06% increase in June 2026 compared to May, while the annual rate rose by 4.69%. Meanwhile, cargo storage costs increased by 0.04% month-on-month and had an annual increase of 1.78%.

Mexican logistics continues to navigate rising tariffs and the pressure of inflation on the sector, compounded by international factors such as the conflict in the Middle East, which has increased fuel costs.

El cargo Prices for logistics activities in Mexico accelerate in June apareció primero en T21.

According to the National Producer Price Index (INPP), published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , the tertiary activities subsector —which includes transport, mail and storage— had a monthly increase of 0.14% and an annual increase of 3.98% in its prices during April 2026, which impacted an increase in the costs of the Mexican logistics sector of 3.56% at an annual rate , and a slight monthly decrease of 0.05 percent.

According to the INPP results, the various subsectors that make up the transport, mail and storage sector showed mixed results in the fourth month of the year, mostly reflecting increases driven mainly by a volatile international situation and internal pressures on fuels.

In that regard, the cost of  air cargo transport  in April 2026 showed a downward trend, decreasing by 0.55% compared to last March. It also decreased by 2.06% compared to April 2025.

Meanwhile, the  airport usage fee  showed a 2.04% increase month-over-month and a 1.83% decrease year-over-year. It’s worth noting that  Mexico City International Airport (AICM)  announced an increase in its Airport Usage Fee (TUA), which  took effect on April 1 and will remain in place until December 31, 2026 .

The air cargo loading and unloading subsector  saw a monthly decrease in costs, with companies in the sector paying 0.02% less for this service. On an annual basis, costs rose 3.08%.

Meanwhile, rail freight rates increased by 0.81% in April 2026 compared to the previous month. Year-on-year, they also saw an increase of 1.64%.

Maritime freight transport  rose 0.14% month-on-month but fell 0.76% year-on-year. This increase can be partly explained by the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz, which has driven up insurance premiums for exposed vessels by 5% to 10%, impacting the price of transported goods, according to Marsh , a risk consultancy firm.

Meanwhile, port usage fees  increased their cost by 0.34% monthly and 9.83% annually.

Regarding  general freight trucking , this service saw a 0.01% price decrease in April compared to March 2016, while the annual increase was 3.64%. This mode of transport has been pressured by the volatility in diesel prices and by the operating costs associated with vehicle maintenance and renewal. Tolls for trucks and buses  rose by 7.55% both monthly and annually.

Customs agencies and other freight forwarding services  increased their service prices by 0.37% monthly and decreased by 0.22% annually.

Parcel and courier services saw a 0.04% increase in April 2026 compared to March, while the year-on-year increase was 3.73%. Meanwhile, cargo storage costs decreased by 0.57% month-on-month and increased by 1.23% annually. These service increases are linked to higher demand for inventory and increased space utilization resulting from e-commerce and nearshoring .

Overall, the April INPP reflects that the cost structure in transportation and logistics in Mexico is still in the process of adjustment, with differentiated impacts by mode, but with the common denominator of pressure on operational efficiency in an environment of uncertainty.

El cargo INPP in Mexico’s logistics sector, with mixed results in April apareció primero en T21.

In December 2024, the  National Producer Price Index (INPP)  in the transportation and logistics sector in Mexico reported a slight increase, according to information issued this Thursday by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

The agency detailed that, in the last month of the year, prices in the transport, mail and storage industries showed the most significant increase in tertiary activities with 2.78%  at a monthly rate and  8.29%  annually.

The INPP aims to measure the variations in the prices of goods and services produced at a national level, said Inegi, who specified that in that month the indicator, including oil, had an increase at a monthly rate of 0.76%  and  7.49% annually.

By group of economic activities, the  primary sector was the one that showed the greatest increase in prices for producers. On a monthly basis, the prices of primary sectors, which involve agriculture, mining and fishing, increased by  2.99% in the referred month.

In turn, secondary activities , which include those related to manufacturing, industries and construction, increased 0.45% in the twelfth month of 2024.

The above was the result of price increases in the mining, construction and manufacturing sectors, as well as a drop in the generation, transmission and distribution of electric energy, water supply and gas supply through pipelines to the final consumer, the organization highlighted.

According to Inegi, tertiary activities , which involve transportation, commerce, education, tourism and health, increased by 0.97% in the period. Meanwhile, the Index of Goods and Services for Intermediate Use rose by 1.28% at a monthly rate and by 8.58% at an annual rate.

Inflation stood at 4.21% in December

Inegi also announced that the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) , which measures the variation in the prices of a basket of goods and services, stood at 4.21% in December 2024, from the 4.55% annual rate reported in November, thus achieving the lowest rate for a year-end since 2020.

The agency detailed that in that month, the INPC reported a monthly variation of 0.38% , while the underlying price index , which excludes goods and services with more volatile prices or that do not respond to market conditions, increased 0.51% at a monthly rate, with a notable increase in the price of services with 0.61% , and food, beverages and tobacco 0.43 percent .

On a monthly basis, the non-core price index registered a fall of 0.04 percent . Within this, the prices of agricultural products decreased by 0.64% and those of energy and government-authorized tariffs increased by 0.45 percent .

Among the products with the greatest upward impact, air transport stood out with 26.27% , followed by grapes with an increase of 20.27% , driven by the end-of-year festivities; as well as chicken, with an increase of 2.29 percent .

On the other hand, products such as papaya, serrano chili and green tomato showed a significant decrease in their cost, with a drop of 25.80%, 13.99% and 13.93 percent , respectively.

By region, the entities with the greatest increases in the INPC were Baja California Sur with 0.67% and Nayarit with 0.64% , while Tlaxcala and Tabasco showed variations below the national average.

The figures for both indicators become relevant in the context of the upcoming review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (T-MEC) , which will take place in 2026, since several of the industries reported in the INPP will be part of the trilateral dialogue, and could impact the National Consumer Price Index.

In November 2024, the National Producer Price Index (INPP) in the transportation and logistics sector in Mexico reported a slight increase, according to information issued this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

In this regard, the agency detailed that, in the eleventh month of the year, prices in the transport, mail and storage industry showed the most significant increase in tertiary activities with 1.37% at a monthly rate and 7.74% annually.

On the other hand, Inegi announced that the INPP aims to measure the variations in the prices of goods and services produced at a national level, and noted that in that month, the INPP, including oil, had a monthly growth rate of 0.93% and 6.38% annually.

By group of economic activities, the primary sector was the one that showed the greatest increase in prices for producers. On a monthly basis, the prices of primary activities, which involve agriculture, mining and fishing, increased by 2.45% in the aforementioned month.

In turn, secondary activities , which include those related to manufacturing, industries and construction, increased 0.99% in the eleventh month of 2024.

The above was the result of price increases in the mining, generation, transmission and distribution of electric energy, supply of water and gas through pipelines to the final consumer, construction, and manufacturing industries sectors, the organization highlighted.

According to Inegi, tertiary activities , which involve transportation, commerce, education, tourism and health, had an increase of 0.56% in the aforementioned period.

Meanwhile, the Index of Intermediate Goods and Services , including oil, rose 0.95% on a monthly basis and 6.24% on an annual basis. In the reference month, the Index of Final Goods and Services , including oil, increased 0.93% on a monthly basis and 6.44% on an annual basis.

These figures take on relevance in the context of the upcoming review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) , which will take place in 2026, since several of the industries reported in this report will be part of the trilateral dialogue.

Since his campaign for the presidency of the United States, Donald Trump , who will take office in January 2025, has threatened to impose 25% tariffs on certain products of Mexican origin, which would affect one of the most important productive sectors for our country, such as the automotive sector, which is beginning to recover pre-pandemic levels both in manufacturing and in sales and exports.
