In recognition of its contribution to the development of the national industry and the promotion of products made in the country, the Ministry of Economy (SE) awarded the “Made in Mexico” seal to the Infocode application by GS1 Mexico , a tool that will help consumers boost the national economy by allowing them to determine, through the barcode, whether the products they are about to purchase were made by Mexican hands.

During the awards ceremony, representatives from GS1 Mexico emphasized that this distinction is the result of collaborative work among its members and the organization’s mission to strengthen the national industry.

“This seal fills us with satisfaction, pride, and motivation to continue working. We accept it with humility, but also with the great responsibility to continue doing things well and to continue contributing to the development of Mexican companies through collaboration and innovation,” said Jorge Garcés , president of GS1 Mexico.

The “Made in Mexico” label seeks to promote preference for national products and strengthen the identity and trust of Mexican consumers.

According to data shared during the event, 38 % of Mexicans consider it important to buy products made in the country  and recognize their quality .

A key element of this initiative is the link to barcodes. GS1 Mexico explained that the prefix “750” at the beginning of the barcode identifies products registered in Mexico , and from now on, this number will be closely linked to the “Made in Mexico” label.

“We’re going to start talking a lot about the 750, because it’s about products well-made in Mexico,” the organization emphasized.

For her part, Lizzeth Pacheco , head of the Promotion and Support for New Ideas Sector at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, emphasized that the process for obtaining the distinction is digital and transparent, with quick response times ranging from 10 to 15 days.

He also said that one of the essential requirements is that companies meet at least one Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) , which strengthens the seal’s social and environmental commitment.

The federal agency also emphasized that the strategy seeks to strengthen local economies and support Mexican micro, small, and medium-sized businesses in the face of imported products, especially those of Asian origin, which have gained a foothold in the Mexican market.

“This is not a trade war between Mexico, but it is our duty to strengthen local production chains and prioritize what is well done in Mexico,” he stated.

The “Made in Mexico” label is consolidating as a key tool for boosting local consumption, improving the competitiveness of national companies, and generating a greater sense of pride and belonging among consumers.
