In July 2026, Mexican industrial activity grew 0.5% compared to last June , driven mainly by the construction and manufacturing sectors, according to the results of the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI), prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

In its annual measurement, the indicator, which stood at a level of 102.5 in the seventh month of the year, also showed a positive behavior with an increase of 2.4 percent .

According to the agency’s figures, two of the four components of the IMAI had a positive performance in July 2026 on a monthly basis, with the construction sector showing the largest increase at 0.9 percent.

Manufacturing industries followed with an increase of 0.7%; while the generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity, water supply and natural gas by pipeline to the end consumer remained unchanged on a monthly basis.

Conversely, the mining industry was the only component with a negative result in the period, which fell 1.8% on a monthly basis.

In the year-on-year comparison, construction registered an increase of 6.7%, mining increased 1.6%, manufacturing industries rose 1.3%; and generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity, water supply and natural gas by pipeline to the final consumer advanced 0.7 percent.

The July IMAI result shows an advance in Mexican industrial activity, with a good performance, in general terms, of the components that make it up, both on a monthly and annual rate.

Within the indicator, the manufacturing industries maintained a positive performance , reflecting the importance of this sector, which is one of the most relevant in the country, as it represents about 20% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and more than 80% of total merchandise exports.

In that sense, the manufacture of computer, communication, measurement and other electronic equipment, components and accessories was one of the subsectors with the highest annual growth rate, with an increase of 14.2 percent.

According to Inegi, the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity provides timely statistical information that allows us to know and monitor the monthly evolution of the economic activities of the country’s industrial sector.

The construction and mining sectors boosted Mexico’s industrial production, which saw a slight increase of 0.2% in June 2026 compared to May , when it fell 0.7% month-on-month, reported the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

With this result, the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI) was at a level of 102 during the sixth month of the year.

According to the agency’s figures,  three of the four components of the IMAI had a positive performance in June 2026 on a monthly basis, with  construction  showing the largest increase at 3 percent.

This was followed by the generation, transmission, distribution, and marketing of electricity, and the supply of water and natural gas via pipelines to the end consumer , which rose 0.9 percent. Mining  increased 0.6 percent, and  manufacturing industries declined 0.6 percent during June of this year on a monthly basis.

In its annual measurement, Mexican industrial activity also showed encouraging figures, registering an increase of 0.8% in the sixth month of 2026.

Within the indicator, mining performed best with a 7 percent increase. Construction grew 4.2%, and the generation, transmission, distribution, and marketing of electricity, water supply, and natural gas via pipelines to the end consumer increased 0.7% year-on-year.

The only sector that showed a negative figure on an annual rate was manufacturing industries, which fell 1.2% compared to June 2025, reflecting the stagnation that this activity has had in recent months.

The IMAI results for June show an advance in Mexican industrial activity, with some activities performing better than others.

In this sense, construction, driven by various projects such as passenger trains and the Mexico Plan with the construction of industrial parks through the Development Poles of Well-being, has had a positive impact on the IMAI.

Meanwhile, the manufacturing industry has registered a decline, both on a monthly and annual basis, resulting from external policies such as the tariffs imposed by the United States, and a Mexican economy that is only just beginning to show signs of recovery.

Mexican industrial activity registered a 2.1% increase in April 2026 compared to last March, derived from an increase in construction activities, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

According to the agency’s figures, two of the four components of the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI) performed positively in the fourth month of the year, with  construction showing the greatest growth, rising 7.6% compared to March 2016. Manufacturing industries advanced 1.2% during April on a monthly basis.

Conversely, mining fell 0.7%, and the generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity, water supply and natural gas by pipeline to the end consumer fell 0.3%, both components at a monthly rate.

In April 2026,  the IMAI showed an increase in its annual measurement of 1.8 percent .

Within the indicator, manufacturing industries; and generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity, water supply and natural gas by pipeline to the final consumer each decreased by 0.3%, on an annual rate.

Construction grew 10.2%, and mining activities rose 3.4% compared to April 2025.

With the increase recorded in April 2026, both on a monthly and annual basis, Mexican industrial activity is once again showing signs of recovery in an economic scenario marked by constant trade changes in the world and conflicts such as the one in the Middle East.

According to the results, the IMAI was driven by the construction sector, due to public infrastructure projects, works focused on urban development and some segments of building; however, other industries, such as manufacturing, showed mixed behavior.

Mexican industrial activity registered a 0.6% drop during March 2026  compared to last February, according to information released this Tuesday by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

According to figures from the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI), which allows us to know and monitor the evolution of industrial activity in Mexico,  industrial operations also declined in their annual measurement, showing a contraction of 1.5%  in the reference month.

During the period, declines were recorded in two of the four components that make up the IMAI, with construction showing the largest decrease, falling 3.3% month-on-month; while manufacturing industries decreased 0.2% in March 2026 compared to last February.

Mining was the fastest-growing sector, increasing by 1.7% month-on-month. Meanwhile, the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity, as well as the supply of water and natural gas via pipelines to end consumers,  saw a 0.3% increase month-on-month.

On an annual basis , the construction sector declined by 5.3%, and manufacturing industries fell by 1.6%.

Conversely, mining registered an increase of 5.8%; and generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity, water supply and natural gas by pipeline to the final consumer rose 0.3 percent.

The decline recorded in the third month of the year in Mexican industrial activity occurs in a complex economic scenario, marked by constant commercial and geopolitical changes, such as the conflict in the Middle East, whose effects are beginning to be felt in various parts of the world.

It is worth remembering that industrial activity is one of the main drivers of the Mexican economy , as it is one of the indicators that reflects the country’s commercial and economic environment.

After a monthly drop of 1.1% recorded last January, Mexican industrial activity rebounded 0.4% in February 2026 compared to the first month of the year, driven by manufacturing, mining and construction, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

With the increase recorded in the second month of the year, the country’s industrial activity is beginning to show signs of recovery, in the face of a complex economic scenario, marked by constant trade changes in the world.

According to figures from Inegi,  three of the four components of the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI) had a positive performance last February , with  manufacturing industries showing the best progress, with an increase of 0.7% over January 2026.

Mining activity grew 0.6% in February 2026 compared to January. Meanwhile, construction activity increased 0.3% month-over-month.

Electricity generation, transmission and distribution, water supply and natural gas was the only component that decreased in the monthly comparison, falling 1.4% in the period.

The Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity allows us to know and monitor the evolution of industrial activity in Mexico, according to Inegi.

Despite the monthly rebound in February 2026, the IMAI showed a decline in its annual measurement , registering a decrease of 1.3 percent.

Within this indicator, manufacturing industries fell 2.3% year-on-year, while the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, water supply and natural gas decreased 1.4% last February compared to the same month in 2025.

On an annual basis, construction advanced 1.2% and mining registered a growth of 0.9% in February 2026.

The February rebound in the country’s industrial activity represents the third best reading since October 2025, when the IMAI showed a monthly growth of 0.8%.

Industrial activity is one of the main drivers of the Mexican economy, whose dynamism is linked to job creation and investment. It is also one of the indicators that reflects the country’s commercial and economic environment, and it also impacts other sectors through the supply of inputs.

Mexican manufacturing activity is expected to have declined during February 2026 , according to the Monthly Indicator of Manufacturing Activity (IMOAM).

In the second month of the year, the IMOAM, prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , anticipated a decrease of 4.6% compared to February 2025.

According to Inegi, this indicator registered a value of 99.3 points , as an advance calculation of the  Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI)  of the manufacturing sector.

“The IMOAM has established itself as a reliable estimation tool, and is continuously evaluated by comparing it with the IMAI,” the agency stated.

Despite the drop in manufacturing activity last February, this sector remains attractive for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

At the close of 2025, Mexico received $40.871 billion in FDI , which represented a growth of 10.8% compared to what was received in 2024, when it was $36.872 billion, according to the Ministry of Economy .

Of the total FDI in 2025, more than 30% was concentrated in manufacturing, reflecting the importance of this industry for foreign capital.

According to figures from the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI), which allows us to know and monitor the evolution of industrial activity in Mexico, industrial operations also declined in their annual measurement, showing a contraction of 0.1% in the reference month.

During the period, declines were recorded in all four components that make up the IMAI, with the generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity, water supply and natural gas by pipeline to the final consumer showing the greatest decline, with a drop of 1.9% on a monthly basis.

Meanwhile, mining, construction, and manufacturing industries each declined by 1.1% compared to December 2025.

On an annual basis, three of the four components of the IMAI registered increases . The construction sector advanced 5%, and mining 1%. Generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity, water supply and natural gas via pipelines to the end consumer rose 0.6%.

Manufacturing industries was the only activity that declined at an annual rate, with a decrease of 1.7% in the period.

According to an analysis by Grupo Financiero Ve por Más (BX+) , Mexican industrial activity experienced its first monthly decline in four observations and the largest since December 2024.

He explained that, with original figures and annual rate, the indicator returned to negative territory after a respite in December, adding nine contractions in the last 10 readings.

“Although some sluggishness may persist for the remainder of the first quarter of 2026, we anticipate that it will subsequently regain some traction,” the institution emphasized.

In January 2026, the indicator showed a value of  104 points , as an advance calculation of the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI) of the manufacturing sector.

This result reflects that, amidst the tariff policy promoted by the United States, the Mexican manufacturing industry continues to show resilience in the face of global trade changes.

Economic activity advances

Meanwhile, the Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE) anticipated an annual increase of 2.3% in the Mexican economy in January 2026 , driven by the manufacturing industry and the services sector.

In its monthly measurement, the IOAE would also have shown a positive figure, registering an  increase of 0.3%  in the first month of the year.

By economic activity groups , an annual increase of 2.1% is expected in secondary activities – which include manufacturing and construction – and 2.2% in tertiary activities , which include services such as trade, transport and storage, communications, education and health.

On a monthly basis, the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) is projected to grow by 0.3% . Secondary activities are expected to increase by 0.4%, and tertiary activities by 0.3% in January 2026.

According to  KPMG , a consulting firm, Mexico is expected to have a mixed economic outlook this year, with opportunities in diversifying trade relationships, strengthening strategic logistics projects, and developing key industries such as manufacturing.

However, he indicated that a moderate slowdown with inflationary pressures is anticipated, “so it will be necessary to monitor the capacity of regional development to boost investment and productivity.”

This increase stemmed from progress in infrastructure projects, primarily the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

Meanwhile, the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity, as well as the supply of water and natural gas via pipelines to the end consumer, increased by 0.7% month-on-month. Mining saw a monthly increase of 0.5%.

Manufacturing industries was the only component that declined, showing a decrease of 0.1% during December 2025 compared to last November.

In its annual reading , construction advanced 6.8%; and generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity, water supply and natural gas by pipelines to the final consumer, increased 3.9% in the last month of 2025.

Mining showed an increase of 0.5%; and manufacturing industries registered an increase of 0.1% year-on-year.

According to specialists, 2026 will be a year of challenges and opportunities for Mexican industry, which will continue to navigate external risks, such as tariffs, and internal risks, such as a volatile economy.

The Mexican manufacturing industry would have closed 2025 with a decline, according to the  Timely Monthly Indicator of Manufacturing Activity (IMOAM) , prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

In December 2025, the agency anticipated a 1.1% decrease in manufacturing activity  compared to the same month in 2024.

In the last month of last year, this indicator showed a value of  97.2 points , as an advance calculation of the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI) of the manufacturing sector.

Amid the tariff policy driven by the United States, the Mexican manufacturing industry has faced adjustments, although it has remained resilient.

Despite this, and coupled with global trade changes, this sector of the country remains attractive for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

According to data from the  Ministry of Economy (SE) , Mexico attracted  $40.906 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) during the third quarter of 2025 (3Q25). Of this total, manufacturing accounted for 37.1% of the FDI, reflecting the importance of this industry to the Mexican economy.
