Infrastructure projects will begin at the end of this year under the mixed investment scheme, where the government plans to develop road works under the Construction, Maintenance, Rehabilitation and Operation (CMRO) model.

Jesús Esteva, head of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) , said that they currently have five highway projects with an investment of 30,665 million pesos for about 300 kilometers.

“We are carrying out these projects in conjunction with Banobras. It’s basically a collaboration where the secretariat grants the concession and Banobras proceeds to put out to tender, so they will likely be carried out towards the end of this year. We are in the identification process, concluding some preliminary studies that are required to submit them for consideration by the different councils, but some of these projects could begin by the end of the year,” he said.

During his meeting with the College of Civil Engineers of Mexico (CICM) to present the National Infrastructure Program, he explained that these projects are the Córdoba-Orizaba highway, Nueva Italia-Lázaro Cárdenas, Tijuana-Ensenada Bypass, Cardel-La Tinaja and Puerto Veracruz Branch (under study) and the Nuevo Laredo International Bridge.

He recalled that during the previous six-year term, the construction of the Tepic-Compostela highway and the airports of Tamuín, Puerto Escondido and Tepic was carried out through the CMRO scheme .

Jesús Esteva explained that there will be no modification to the current laws or the creation of any new laws to carry out these road projects.

He also assured that road maintenance will continue to be carried out in conjunction with private initiatives.

“We currently have 600 tenders. Based on the experience of ‘conservation by management’ we are also about to acquire 20 repaving trains, which will give us a greater and more efficient execution capacity,” said Esteva Medina.
