Motive announced the launch of the AI ​​Dashcam Plus, a camera that combines multiple functions into a single device and incorporates edge AI processing to detect hazards in real time and prevent collisions. It is equipped with the Qualcomm Dragonwing QCS6490 processor, capable of simultaneously running more than 30 AI models.

“Organizations need AI-powered driver safety solutions that can perceive and respond in real time. We’ve taken what used to be two devices and added three times the computing power, created the first stereo vision camera, and added hands-free communication—all in one system so companies can detect more risks and act faster. This isn’t just a new product; it reflects a shift toward proactive, AI-driven road safety,” said Shoaib Makani, co-founder and CEO of Motive.

In Mexico, more than 374,000 traffic accidents were recorded in 2024 , according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) . Driver fatigue and speeding were identified as recurring factors . Given the limitations of traditional safety systems in detecting and responding to risks, Motive proposed a device that integrates dual stereo vision and two-way communication into a single unit.

Erick Hong, head of Smart Home & Life at  Qualcomm Technologies , highlighted that thanks to the AI ​​integrated into the device, road safety can be improved.

“By running at the edge with lower latency, it offers the responsiveness and reliability that fleets need. We are proud to collaborate with Motive to help organizations detect risks earlier and keep communities safe,” he emphasized.

The device has various functionalities such as stereo vision for depth perception , which consists of two lenses synchronized towards the road to create a human-like depth perception; automatic license plate recognition , which allows capturing clear license plates even in motion, at long distances or in bad weather; and fusion of video, audio, telematics and GPS sensors , which allows identifying complex events such as robberies.

The AI ​​Dashcam Plus also includes live two-way calling , allowing operators to instantly connect with their managers via voice control; a voice assistant , which allows operators to check their remaining driving time and find the nearest gas station; and AI automations , which support them in addressing urgent issues.

The device also features a unified design that reduces installation time and enables more reliable video uploads ; its Android-based architecture allows for remote AI model updates, and its dual-SIM connectivity ensures continuous tracking.

Since 2023, Motive’s AI Dashcam has helped prevent more than 170,000 accidents and save approximately 1,500 lives . A study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute showed that the camera alerted drivers to unsafe behaviors two to four times more often than competing models. Customers reported an 80% reduction in collisions and a 63% reduction in accident-related costs.

CANCÚN, Q. ROO.- Highway insecurity has ceased to be an isolated issue and has become a constant, putting pressure on freight transportation in Mexico. Videos of assaults, intimidated operators, and multimillion-dollar robberies are part of a reality that demands different responses.

Marcelo Salinas, commercial director of Logitrack , raised the issue during the 4th DCT Conference –  Quálitas  Infinite Possibilities, that crime advances at the same pace as technology, and can only be contained through innovation.

The diagnosis doesn’t allow for pause. Criminals use jammers to inhibit signals, manipulate GPS, and block vehicles at fake checkpoints.

It’s no longer about improvisation, but about organized cells with armored trucks and sophisticated tools.

“The weak point remains the human factor,” Salinas warned, insisting that automated protocols and electronic shielding are key to responding in seconds.

The solutions described aren’t limited to hardware. With the company’s platform, data and alerts are transformed into immediate action: automatic throttle locks, virtual fences, and detailed reports that turn traditional monitoring into preventive analysis.

Artificial intelligence is even integrated to handle minor incidents, validating security keys with operators and reducing up to 90% of the false calls that previously overwhelmed control centers.

The impact of this strategy was confirmed by Augusto Ramos , vice president of Grupo RAME . The company operates in the north, Bajío, and western parts of the country, regions where more than half of the robberies occur. Since adopting the technology, they have been loss-free for eight years .

“We removed more than 40 units daily from that area without a single theft,” Ramos said. This risk reduction allowed us to renegotiate insurance premiums, invest in more technology, and, above all, build trust between customers and operators.

The key, Augusto Ramos added, is to recognize that technology alone is not enough: it must be accompanied by disciplined reaction and commitment from management to the operator.

“Technology doesn’t work alone; there are people behind it who have to make it work,” he said, acknowledging that even drivers, who were initially skeptical, now tell other colleagues that they feel safe in their company.

For his part, Carlos Jaramillo , director of   Digital Communications Technologies (DCT) in the United States, highlighted how these alliances show a different path for the sector. By combining processes, people, and technology, companies are able to customize solutions that reduce accidents and strengthen operations.

For experts, transportation theft cannot be eliminated with rhetoric or improvisation. It is confronted with electronic shielding, automation, and organizational culture . A formula in which technological innovation does not replace the human factor, but rather supports it so that each trip reaches its destination.

“The figures are alarming” when it comes to transportation insecurity : every half hour a cargo unit is stolen and every 47 minutes a traffic accident occurs, explained Alberto Lecona , general director of ARC Soluciones .

“Every 33 minutes, an operator suffers a highway robbery. This disrupts the logistics chain and increases insurance rates,” Lecona warned in an interview with T21 .

And he’s not exaggerating, because every theft hits businesses, but also the entire logistics system . According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) ,  trucking  remains the primary mode of transportation in Mexico, contributing 76.1% and moving  58.3% of national freight , consolidating its position as a pillar of the Mexican economy.

Furthermore, its impact is reflected in 5.9% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the creation of more than  2.3 million direct jobs .

The executive believed there was a generational shift underway: children of truckers are now trained in business administration and understand that prevention means saving. From his position, Lecona proposed a combination of technology, training, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) .

“We can’t continue to have people sitting in front of a screen without any methodology. We’re promoting monitoring as an exception, with heat maps and integrated alerts from multiple GPS systems,” he explained.

Technology also plays a key role in the security strategy. Among the tools Lecona highlighted are AI-powered cameras , capable of identifying weapons or the presence of strangers inside units, enabling automatic alerts.

For him, security must be approached with strategy and discipline, with no room for improvisation.

But beyond policy savings and operational efficiency, the specialist highlighted the human value of prevention.

“Fewer road accidents mean fewer deaths. That makes us a socially responsible company. Not because of the logo, but because of the lives saved,” he said.

The history of ARC Solutions is also one of resilience and innovation. What began as an insurance firm has transformed into a comprehensive ecosystem with 24/7 support , training, and claims consulting.

“I don’t just sell price, I sell service at a good price,” said Lecona, who explained that this philosophy has allowed him to forge a path in a sector where trust is earned through results. Some accounts took him up to 10 years, but today they have been working together for six or more.

Now, ARC Soluciones also aims to train operators . The company seeks to become a formal training center that helps close the gap of more than 99,000 vacancies in the sector , as reported by the International Road Transport Union (IRU) .

“We want the carrier to be able to say, ‘Train 10 operators,’ and we’ll prepare them. That’s the vision: to professionalize from the ground up,” he said.

With 19,000 insured units and 6,000 trained personnel , ARC Soluciones is an active player in road safety, a strategic ally for Mexican transporters, and a project that, according to Lecona, is just beginning to gain momentum.

Tick, tock… the clock ticks, and as each minute ticks by, a unit is ambushed , a driver is robbed, a load disappears. On Mexican roads, time isn’t just precious; it can mean the difference between recovering or losing everything.

“Today, Puebla has surpassed the State of Mexico in robberies against transporters. A few years ago, it didn’t even appear on heat maps. Now, it accounts for 27% of the incidents,” said Ricardo Bustamante , former president and current board member of the Mexican Association of Private Security Companies and the Satellite Industry (Amesis) .

During the association’s assembly, which marked the change of presidency at Amesis, Bustamante revealed that in April 2025 alone, 124 thefts were recorded from cargo vehicles affiliated with the organization. The figure represented a 20% increase compared to the same period the previous year . However, he also shared a reassuring statistic: 96% of those cases were successfully resolved .

How? With technology, but also with speed. Amesis boasted a national average of 45 minutes for vehicle recovery , and in the center of the country, that figure dropped to 37 minutes . But none of that is worth it, Bustamante warned, if the authorities don’t arrive in time.

“We depend heavily on the authorities arriving at the scene of the incident,” he insisted.

The map of violence has been redrawn. In addition to Puebla (27%), the State of Mexico (20%) and San Luis Potosí (10%) remain hotspots.

Guanajuato, Querétaro, Michoacán, and Veracruz follow. The Mexico-Querétaro , Querétaro-San Luis , and Mexico-Puebla highways top the list of the country’s most dangerous highways. In Celaya and some municipalities in Puebla, the risk is constant.

Criminals don’t distinguish between day and night. But they do know the clock. 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.  are the peak times for crime, according to the specialist.

They attack with “jammers,” signal-inhibiting devices, which deactivate systems and disappear in seconds. Forty-three percent of stolen vehicles are tractor-trailers , followed by trucks, trailers, and pickups, Bustamante said. The most coveted merchandise is groceries, pharmaceuticals, food, and liquor.

“Organized crime is increasingly turning to transportation as a source of income. This isn’t paranoia: it’s a reality confirmed by figures and testimonies. Hydrocarbon trafficking, the financing of illicit activities, the use of routes for other crimes—everything is intertwined,” Bustamante warned.

For his part, Raymundo Mancera , who assumed the presidency of Amesis, during his first message in office emphasized that companies must take an active role in the face of insecurity:

“Everything revolves around the level of risk and the probability of occurrence. Investment is needed to minimize the impact of crime,” he noted. He also acknowledged that authorities are making significant efforts, but insisted that the work must be joint and ongoing. “We need to strengthen this collaboration to close the loop on prevention and effective response,” he commented.

Mancera assumed the presidency of Amesis with the commitment to strengthen collaboration with authorities and promote investments that strengthen the sector. His administration, he said, will seek to translate experience into tangible solutions.

The clock is ticking, and on the roads, every minute that passes can decide the fate of an operator, a load, or an entire company.
