Since 2021, Grupo Marva ( Top 100 del Autotransporte® ) made the decision to venture into electromobility as a long-term strategy and contribute to the decarbonization of transport . Since then, various achievements have been recorded along the path set.

In 2022, Marva announced at Expo Transporte ANPACT the acquisition of the largest fleet of electric tractor trucks, through the alliance with BY Deléctrica , distributor of Chinese-origin BYD equipment.

In the strategic alliance with BY Deléctrica in 2023, the first charging hub for heavy equipment was installed , located in Tultitlán, State of Mexico, and which would serve to trace the route of the charging points in conjunction with Marva. Today there are charging facilities in Puebla, Salamanca (Gto.), Aguascalientes and Monterrey (NL).

Now in mid-November 2024, Marva has achieved the milestone of exceeding one million kilometers traveled with its fleet of 50 electric tractor-trailers, which translates into reducing 1,550 tons of CO2 into the environment.

Achieving this historic moment is the result of operating 130 thousand tons of different loads where it has achieved active collaboration with companies that have aligned interests with Grupo Marva, such as Ford , Hapag-Lloyd , Amazon , P&G , Nissan and Mercado Libre , where they have assumed an active role in the drive towards greener logistics.

“These types of collaborations not only benefit our clients, but also create a positive impact that extends to the whole of society. We are committed to continuing to promote this structural change,” said Manuel Lastiri, commercial executive of Grupo Marva.

With these results, Manuel Lastiri shared, “Transportes Marva also demonstrates that sustainable solutions are both viable and scalable, encouraging other companies to follow suit.”

For Marva, this achievement is only confirmation that it will continue on this path. For this reason, the company plans to expand its electric fleet and continue innovating in technologies that enhance the efficiency and sustainability of its operations.

“This is just the beginning of an ongoing effort to integrate responsible practices at every stage of the logistics chain. Our goal is not just to reduce emissions, we take on a role in inspiring the industry to adopt a more sustainable and progressive approach,” Manuel Lastiri emphasized.

In addition to the charging points that have been established, by the end of the year Marva expects to have two additional locations in Cuernavaca (Mor.) and Guadalajara (Jal.), with which it will be able to electrify more routes, by adding circuits and routes with the capacity of autonomy.

The United States Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) reported Friday that it has requested additional information on Gemini Cooperation , an operational collaboration between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk that was scheduled to come into effect next week.

“The Federal Maritime Commission needs more information to determine the possible competitive impacts of the agreement,” said this independent federal agency in a statement.

Both companies, two of the largest shipping lines in the world, announced this alliance at the beginning of this year, but it was not until May 31 that they presented the agreement to the FMC, opening a period of 45 days before its entry into valid unless additional information (RFAI) is requested.

The agreement would allow these companies to share ships on routes between the United States and Asia, the Middle East and Europe .

“The Commission has determined that the Gemini Cooperation Agreement as presented lacks sufficient details to allow a complete analysis of its possible competitive impacts,” it said in the statement, although it avoided specifying what information it is requesting.

The Commission has 45 days from the time it determines that the responses to the information request are considered complete to review the agreement for legal and competition issues before it takes effect.

Additionally, he indicated that a 15-day public comment period will open once the RFAI public notice is published in the Federal Register next week.

The Gemini Cooperation Agreement would have come into force on Monday, July 15, 2024, without this commission action.

The cooperation between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk will comprise a fleet of around 290 vessels with a combined capacity of 3.4 million 20-foot containers (TEU); Maersk will deploy 60% and Hapag-Lloyd 40 percent.

As a consequence of joining this cooperation, Hapag-Lloyd will leave THE Alliance at the end of January 2025 . In January 2023, Maersk and MSC announced that the 2M alliance will end in January 2025.

In their initial statement, Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk planned for the Gemini Cooperation to begin in February 2025 .

The cooperation will cover 7 markets: Asia / West Coast of the United States, Asia / East Coast of the United States, Asia / Middle East, Asia / Mediterranean, Asia / Northern Europe, Middle East – India / Europe and Transatlantic.

According to the maritime consulting firm Alphaliner, Maersk is the second largest shipping line in the world with four million 333 thousand 686 20-foot containers (TEU) under its management and 713 vessels; while Hapag-Lloyd, in fifth position, has two million 161 thousand 435 TEU and 286 ships.

The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAME) has declared Phase 1 of the environmental contingency on eight occasions, aiming to reduce emissions by restricting the circulation of passenger vehicles, as well as the movement of goods.

It is in this context that the synergy between Grupo Marva and Hapag-Lloyd is aimed at promoting sustainable logistics, based on innovation and access to new technologies.

Through Linkedin, one can identify a post where one of its executives highlights that through the incorporation of electric tractor-trailers, they are setting the standard in last-mile delivery, “where innovation and sustainability merge for a cleaner and more efficient future.”

Since 2022, Marva announced the incorporation of a fleet of electric tractor-trailers from the Chinese brand BYD, which are part of a heavy-duty electromobility strategy.

As part of this strategy, in 2023 Marva became the first customer of the BYD Electric charging hub in the Tultitlán area of the State of Mexico, where they have initially set up seven positions with a capacity of two MegaWhats (MW).

With this installation, it is possible to serve the Mexico Valley with deliveries and container collections using electric tractor-trailers, thus adding to Hapag-Lloyd’s strategy of implementing a multimodal approach, complemented by the railway route between Pacific ports and the central region of the country.

In addition to operations in the Mexico Valley, Marva has announced that through its fleet of electric tractor-trailers, it provides services in the areas of Cuernavaca, Morelos, and Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, primarily for the supply chain and finished products for Nissan.
