The Pacific Airport Group (GAP) announced that it will invest 13 billion pesos (mdp) this year to continue various works at its 12 airports, with the goal that, by the end of 2029, they will handle between 80 million and 85 million passengers.

Raúl Revuelta, CEO of GAP, noted that these resources are part of the 2025-2029 Master Development Plan (PMD), which includes resources of 52 billion pesos .

“We want modern infrastructure that develops connectivity, improves the passenger experience, and incorporates new technologies such as facial recognition and license plate reading for ticketless parking. The investment we announced through 2029 is very aggressive,” he emphasized.

The executive indicated that the total resources will come from GAP, other sources including stock certificates, Retirement  Fund  Administrators  (Afores), real estate  investment  trusts ( Fibras), and other options.

He noted that these investments will translate into tangible results, such as a 58% increase in the capacity of the terminals managed by GAP , 37% more inspection points, 26% more aircraft platforms and 11% more capacity on the airfield, strengthening efficiency, safety and passenger experience.

Of the total investment in the five-year period, he detailed that Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara will have 26 billion pesos, while Tijuana and Mexicali will have 11.4 billion pesos, Los Cabos and La Paz will have 8 billion pesos, and the other airports will have historic investments.

In the case of the Guadalajara airport, he mentioned that around the World Cup, they estimate receiving up to half a million additional passengers during the sporting event .

Raúl Revuelta indicated that they have been working for 10 years with the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and federal authorities to guarantee the safety of travelers through the implementation of various protocols.

“We have been working with them for quite some time on all the logistics to make it as user-friendly and as operational as possible,” he stated during a meeting with the media.

Similarly, he explained that there will be four new cargo positions , “it is very important for the development of an economy that the airport can receive import and export goods, and that it is part of competitiveness.”

He also mentioned that the Tijuana airport will have a Category 2 Instrument Landing System (ILS) by next June, allowing aircraft to land safely in low visibility conditions.

Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) announced that it will invest in infrastructure for cargo movement at the Guadalajara International Airport, for which it will allocate 300 million pesos , as well as expand the facilities of the Guadalajara World Trade Center (GWTC) .

Raúl Revuelta Musalem, general director of GAP, said that they will add four platforms for handling merchandise , although he pointed out that all the new works will benefit this segment.

Regarding plans with GWTC, a bonded warehouse and logistics operator, he said that they will carry out various investments, not only for the physical growth of the facilities but also in technology.

“When you talk about cargo, what gives you a different position is that you have different types of services, that is, that you are certified in automotive chains, in pharmaceuticals, in cold chains for food or medicines, so we are going to work hard on the technological base to continue increasing the capabilities of the GWTC,” he said.

It is worth remembering that in June of last year, GAP bought 51% of the shares of GWTC for 875 million 504 thousand 411 pesos; this group, made up of seven companies, specializes in handling, storage and custody services for international trade merchandise in facilities classified as tax precincts at the airports of Guadalajara and Puebla.

Revuelta Musalem recalled that Guadalajara once ranked second in terms of cargo handling, although it is now in third place, behind Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Felipe Ángeles Airport (AIFA) .

However, he explained that in terms of cargo value, they are still number one “because they move micro components, advanced technology, so the value is much higher than in the rest of the country, so it speaks volumes about the economic dynamics in the region.”

According to data from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) , last year ended with a handling of 47,310.2 tons, which meant a growth of 5.7% year-on-year.

Similarly, Raúl Revuelta Musalem commented that it is not yet possible to predict any impact on supply chains due to possible tariffs imposed by the United States government on other countries, “it is not very clear and it is too early to understand what the impact will be. So far, Mexico has been able, at least in the first wave, to come out unscathed, to reach a good agreement at the start at least to open a space for negotiation between governments.”

Laura Díez Barroso, president of the Board of Directors of the concessionaire of 12 airports in the country, explained that these resources will allow the expansion of the surface area of ​​its terminals by more than 50% , improve roads, runways and platforms, as well as guarantee more agile and safe operations, and in technology.

Raúl Revuelta Musalem, general director of GAP, said that the new terminal 2 of the Guadalajara airport will be built on a reserve of more than 280 hectares, which will allow for long-term growth. It will have an investment of more than 22 billion pesos, as well as other works such as roads that allow additional access to it.

“The first major investment we are going to make is the purchase of land, which is worth four million pesos. We are about to finish it. It was a purchase from a thousand ejidatarios. It will take us two years to build Terminal 2,” he said.

Regarding the 2026 World Cup, since the Akron Stadium will be one of the venues, he said that they signed an agreement of understanding and support with FIFA more than five years ago, so “we will have Terminal 1 ready and completely renovated and part of the new roads completed and all the parking lot. We are confident that logistics and joint work will support the destination.”

Among the actions to be carried out, work will also be carried out at the Tijuana airport, where a 47% expansion of the terminal building is planned and a new boarding area with seven additional platform positions will be built.

For the Los Cabos airport, GAP specified that Terminal 2 will be expanded by 32%, and the road system for access to the airport will be organized and expanded.

Regarding the outlook for passenger traffic this year, he said that the capacity of Mexican airlines is recovering , although it will not be until the summer of 2026 when “the entire supply of aircraft will be intact,” although slight growth is expected for 2025.

He recalled that the impact they had at the end of last year was due to the impact of the Pratt & Whitney engines on Volaris and Viva Aerobus , which resulted in a decrease in the number of seats in the country.
