<p><span dir="auto">In this regard, the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">Business Confidence Indicator (BCI) </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">for </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">manufacturing industries</span></strong><span dir="auto">  stood at  </span><strong><span dir="auto">47.5 points </span></strong><span dir="auto"> in May, a decrease of 0.4 points compared to April. Within this indicator, the component that saw the largest decline was the perception of a favorable time to invest, with a monthly drop of 1.8 points.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The </span><strong><span dir="auto"> Construction Energy Efficiency Index (ICE)</span></strong><span dir="auto">  was  </span><strong><span dir="auto">47.8 units</span></strong><span dir="auto">  in May 2026. This represents a decrease </span><strong><span dir="auto"> of 0.3 points</span></strong><span dir="auto">  compared to the previous month. With this figure, the indicator has remained below the 50-point threshold for 21 consecutive months.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In the cycle, the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">Commerce ICE</span></strong><span dir="auto">  fell  </span><strong><span dir="auto">0.7 points</span></strong><span dir="auto">  compared to the previous month, settling at  </span><strong><span dir="auto">48.3 units</span></strong><span dir="auto"> . All its components experienced declines compared to last April, with the   most significant drop, at 1.8 points, being the most </span><strong><span dir="auto">opportune time to invest .</span></strong></p>

<p><span dir="auto">According to the Global Business Confidence Opinion Indicator, three of the four sectors it covers showed declines during May 2026.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">This uncertainty has been generated, among other reasons, by international factors such as tariffs around the world and the conflict in the Middle East, as well as by internal factors, such as a weakening of the Mexican economy and private consumption.</span></p>
<h4><strong><span dir="auto">Manufacturing orders also performed negatively</span></strong></h4>
<p><span dir="auto">Meanwhile, the Manufacturing Orders Indicator (IPM), which tracks the performance of the manufacturing economy in Mexico, also showed declines on a monthly and annual basis during May 2026, mainly due to a contraction in orders and production, reported Inegi and the  </span><a href="https://www.banxico.org.mx/"><span dir="auto">Bank of Mexico (Banxico)</span></a><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In the fifth month of the year,  </span><strong><span dir="auto">the MPI stood at </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">49.2 points</span></strong><span dir="auto">  , a decrease of 1.1 points compared to April. <p><span dir="auto">According to Banxico, knowing the Manufacturing Orders Indicator is crucial because it provides a preview of economic activity in Mexico.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">In this regard, the </span><strong><span dir="auto">Business Confidence Indicator (BCI) </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">for </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">manufacturing industries </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">stood at </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">47.9 points </span></strong><span dir="auto"> in April 2026, which was 0.1 points higher than in March. Within this indicator, the only component that decreased month-on-month was </span><strong><span dir="auto">the current economic situation of the country</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , with a drop of 0.2 points.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The </span><strong><span dir="auto"> Construction Economic Index (ICE) </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">was </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">48.1 units</span></strong><span dir="auto"> in the fourth month of the year. It increased by 0.3 points compared to the previous month. With this figure, the indicator has remained below the 50-point threshold for 20 consecutive months.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In the cycle, the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">Commerce ICE </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">fell 0.1 points</span></strong><span dir="auto">  compared to the previous month, settling at 48.9 units. Two of its five components declined compared to last March, with </span><strong><span dir="auto">the company&#8217;s future economic situation</span></strong><span dir="auto"> showing the largest drop, at 1.5 points.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In the reference month, the </span><strong><span dir="auto"> ICE for private non-financial services </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">fell </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">0.4 points</span></strong><span dir="auto">  compared to March 2016, reaching 48.1 units. Three of its components showed negative performance.  </span><strong><span dir="auto">The country&#8217;s current economic situation</span></strong><span dir="auto"> experienced the largest decline, falling 1.3 points.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">In its annual measurement, the ICE for manufacturing industries fell 0.4 units; the one for construction advanced 1.4 points; the one for commerce registered an increase of 1.6 units; and the one for private non-financial services fell 1.7 points.</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">The decline in expectations among Mexican business leaders regarding the performance of the economy stems from various factors, including the uncertainty generated by tariffs worldwide, the conflict in the Middle East, and a weakening of domestic consumption, which has put pressure on the country&#8217;s commercial environment.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">In the reference month, </span><strong><span dir="auto">two of the four </span></strong><strong><span dir="auto">industries in the Business Confidence Indicator (BCI) registered increases</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , with </span><strong><span dir="auto">construction</span></strong><span dir="auto"> showing the largest increase, rising 1.3 points compared to last February, reaching a level of 47.8. Within this sector, the </span><strong><span dir="auto">appropriate time to invest</span></strong><span dir="auto"> was the component that showed the greatest increase, rising 2.7 points on a monthly basis.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">During March, the </span><strong><span dir="auto">Trade Confidence</span></strong><span dir="auto"> Index (ICE) rose 0.1 points compared to the previous month, reaching 48.8 points. </span><strong><span dir="auto">The country&#8217;s future economic outlook</span></strong><span dir="auto"> was the best-performing component during the period, increasing by 1.8 points month-over-month.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The ICE for </span><strong><span dir="auto">manufacturing industries</span></strong><span dir="auto"> was 47.8 points, 0.5 units less than in February 2026. The monthly behavior of the indicator showed declines in its five components, with the </span><strong><span dir="auto">most favorable time to invest</span></strong><span dir="auto"> being the largest decline (0.7 points).</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Meanwhile, the ICE for </span><strong><span dir="auto">private non-financial services</span></strong><span dir="auto"> fell 0.9 points in March 2026 compared to February, settling at 48.5 points. The only component with positive performance was the &#8221; </span><strong><span dir="auto">opportune time to invest</span></strong><span dir="auto"> ,&#8221; registering a 0.5-point increase month-over-month.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">All four IGOEC indicators fell below the 50-point threshold, reflecting </span><strong><span dir="auto">pessimism in business confidence</span></strong><span dir="auto"> during the cycle, in a global economic environment where uncertainty still prevails, stemming from unilateral trade decisions and geopolitical tensions such as those in the Middle East.</span></p>

Within this sector, the </span><strong><span dir="auto">appropriate time to invest</span></strong><span dir="auto"> was the component with the largest increase, rising 4.4 points on a monthly basis.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The </span><strong><span dir="auto">Construction</span></strong><span dir="auto"> Economic Index (ICE ) was 46.5 points in the reference month, representing a 1-point increase compared to the previous month. With this figure, the indicator has remained below the 50-point threshold for 18 consecutive months.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In the second month of the year, </span><strong><span dir="auto">private non-financial services</span></strong><span dir="auto"> rose 0.6 units compared to January 2026, reaching 49.5 points, with the right time to invest with a growth of 1.5 units.</span></p>
<p><strong><span dir="auto">Manufacturing industries</span></strong><span dir="auto"> recorded an ICE of 48.1 points in February of this year, a decrease of 0.2 units compared to the first month of 2026. The component with the greatest decline was the appropriate time to invest, with a decrease of 0.8 points compared to January 2026.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Although the IGOEC registered growth in three of its components, in the trade, construction and non-financial private services sectors, these indicators remained below 50 units, reflecting pessimism in the confidence of businesspeople in the period in the face of a challenging global economic environment.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Understanding the level of trust among business leaders influences the perception of a company&#8217;s integrity and ability to meet its objectives, as well as investment decisions. <p><span dir="auto">According to figures obtained from the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">Monthly Business Opinion Survey (EMOE)</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , this weighting represented a drop of  </span><strong><span dir="auto">0.8 points</span></strong><span dir="auto">  in relation to September 2025 and  </span><strong><span dir="auto">3.4 units</span></strong><span dir="auto">  in its annual comparison.</span></p>

Four of the five components of the indicator registered negative figures, while </span><strong style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;"><span dir="auto">the company&#8217;s future economic outlook</span></strong><span dir="auto" style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;"> remained unchanged.</span></figcaption></figure>
<p><span dir="auto">Meanwhile,  </span><strong><span dir="auto">construction</span></strong><span dir="auto">  fell </span><strong><span dir="auto">0.6 points</span></strong><span dir="auto">  in its monthly comparison; the component that showed the greatest progress was that related to the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">current economic situation of the company</span></strong><span dir="auto">  with an increase of  </span><strong><span dir="auto">0.6 units</span></strong><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Meanwhile, the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">retail sector </span></strong><span dir="auto"> confidence indicator fell  </span><strong><span dir="auto">0.3 points</span></strong><span dir="auto">  in October compared to September 2025, reaching  </span><strong><span dir="auto">47.9 units</span></strong><span dir="auto"> . The largest decline was related to  </span><strong><span dir="auto">the company&#8217;s future economic outlook,</span></strong><span dir="auto">  with a decrease of  </span><strong><span dir="auto">1.2 units</span></strong><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p><strong><span dir="auto">The private non-financial services</span></strong><span dir="auto"> confidence indicator   fell  </span><strong><span dir="auto">1.3 points in October 2025</span></strong><span dir="auto"> compared to the previous month and settled at </span><strong><span dir="auto">49.2 points</span></strong><span dir="auto"> ; the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">right time to invest</span></strong><span dir="auto">  was the component with the largest decline, falling  </span><strong><span dir="auto">4.1 units</span></strong><span dir="auto">  during the period.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Last October, the IGOEC registered a decline in all four of its components: manufacturing, construction, trade, and private non-financial services.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Therefore, this indicator did not reach 50 units, reflecting pessimism in business confidence during the period in the face of a challenging global economic environment.</span></p>
