The trucking industry is beginning to face changes that go beyond daily operations . The way people consume is changing, driven by demographic factors and new generations, which could alter demand in the short term, warned Fernando Chacón, CEO of Setramex .

“I am seeing a lot of global reconfiguration of consumption patterns,” said Chacón, who warned that the sector will have to anticipate adjustments in response to these changes.

Adding to this environment is the pressure of operating costs, as well as insecurity , which continue to drive up operating expenses. The use of monitoring, security, and other protective measures has become increasingly necessary to guarantee continuity of service, he asserted.

According to statistics from the National Association of Vehicle Tracking and Protection Companies (ANERPV) , crime is concentrated in specific corridors (mainly in states like Mexico State, Puebla, and Guanajuato) and on key routes such as Highway 57 and Highway 150D, where the probability of incidents remains high. Furthermore, approximately  80% of thefts  involve heavy vehicles .

Taken together, these factors create a scenario where the sector not only faces immediate challenges, but also the need to adapt to changes in demand and operations .

Faced with this scenario, some companies have chosen to evolve towards more integrated models.

That is the case of Setramex, a logistics solutions provider with its own fleet and a network of strategic partners, which in 25 years went from being a transport firm to consolidating a group with a presence in different links of the operation , Chacón commented in an interview with T21.

Currently, its structure encompasses transportation, logistics, machinery rental, industrial projects, training, and equipment marketing.

The company’s origins remain in transportation, the executive said, where it began building its operational base before diversifying into other services.

From that base, the company integrated new business units until it formed an ecosystem that includes logistics, machinery and equipment rental, industrial projects, online training and the sale of trucks and trailers , under a model that integrates different capabilities in the same operation.

As part of its operations, the company has also strengthened its processes through certifications . It holds standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 39001, as well as certifications like CTPAT, and plans to incorporate new accreditations focused on managing specific industries.

The operation is complemented by a network of support points in different regions of the country, such as Torreón, Zacatecas, Tecomán, Manzanillo, Monterrey and Jilotepec, in addition to coverage towards the United States through alliances.

Chacón explained that the growth has been accompanied by the integration of internal capabilities, taking advantage of shared infrastructure and processes among its different business units.

With a fleet exceeding 600 units , the company has expanded gradually.

“What characterizes us is the fact that we do not commit beyond what we cannot fulfill,” Chacón stated.

Safety , integrity, innovation and trust building have guided its development, in a sector where reliability remains a key factor, he commented.

With a national presence and operations towards the United States through alliances, the company has consolidated its coverage in different parts of the country.
