KIA Mexico celebrates its first 10 years of commercial operations in Mexico in 2025 , and nine years of production operations at its complex located in Pesquería, Nuevo León.

With steady progress in the national market, KIA Mexico achieved a record sale of nine thousand units last September , with a cumulative total of 81,146 vehicles.

The achievements in the market are also reflected in manufacturing activity, where the Pesquería plant has not only diversified its export destinations, reaching regions such as North America, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and recently in 2024 to Australia and in 2025 to Europe.

In these milestones achieved by the manufacturing plant in Mexico, logistics operations are key, and for this reason KIA has emphasized consolidating a supplier ecosystem that allows aligning objectives with synchronized and efficient operations.

That is why, since 2024, the KIA Logistics team , headed by Susana Téllez, has organized an annual event called the “KIA Logistics Summit” , where they bring together the main logistics providers, such as customs agents, shipping companies, port terminals, transport companies, among others.

Therefore, Young Sam Kim, president of KIA Mexico, opened the activities of the Logistics Summit 2025 at the KIA Campus , highlighting the innovation, continuity and constant improvement of the brand.

At the second edition of KIA Mexico’s Logistics Summit, logistics providers were able to confirm the growth of manufacturing operations and the impact it has on the need for supply materials, but also the forecast with constant growth on the horizon towards 2030, both in cross-border movements with the United States, as well as in port operations.

Today, KIA is the fifth largest vehicle brand in Mexico , some of which are manufactured at its plant in Pesquería, Nuevo León. The expansion of export destinations and its growth in the domestic market are projected to drive a 43% increase between 2024 and the 2030 forecast .

This dynamic could translate into a 48% increase in maritime shipments by 2030 compared to last year, while cross-border freight will double over the same period.

The perspectives shared by Ricardo Ortega Márquez, General Purchasing Senior Manager of KIA Mexico, are combined with various projections that fall into four major spheres: geopolitics, where the attacks on the Red Sea, the war in Ukraine and the tension between China and Taiwan converge; the disruption of supply chains, with variables such as weather conditions, shortage of materials, change of routes and security in operations.

The other two major areas are regulatory changes , focused on sustainability laws and the updating of customs in Mexico; the other scenario is technology trends, motivated by the lack of talent and having effective traceability of shipments.

To be aligned with its logistics providers, KIA understands that challenges must be addressed with a carefully designed and personalized response that focuses on the brand’s operational standards, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and compliance in all processes, explained Ricardo Ortega.

To achieve this, there is the management of certifications, such as the AEO or CTPAT, fiscal deposit, as well as others focused on customs issues , in addition to customs authorities, port terminals, shipping lines and motor transport companies.

The KIA Mexico Logistics Summit 2025 was held at the KIA Campus , the facilities the brand has for training all its staff who directly serve customers at dealerships nationwide.

This project is a strategic step forward to ensure security and efficiency in the supply chain of corn, wheat, and other agricultural derivatives for key industries such as the milling, livestock, and tortilla industries in northeastern Mexico.

The terminal received its first train on July 9, carrying 115 cars and more than 11,500 tons , while an inaugural ceremony was held on August 13 for users, partners, and other relevant stakeholders.

GMXT invested $18 million in a loop -type circuit that allows the unloading of 120 cars in just 10 hours.

Daniel Doria, GMXT’s general commercial director, said the terminal is the result of a combined effort to bolster a growing market like northeastern Mexico.

“The collaboration between GMXT and Bartlett fills us with pride and is yet another example of how to generate change for the benefit of Mexico. Nuevo León now has a unique rail infrastructure that will further fuel the growth of various companies linked to the food sector, ensuring a timely supply of corn and wheat for their production processes,” Doria emphasized.

The rail circuit designed by GMXT to serve the Bartlett terminal in Pesquería consists of a six-kilometer (km) connection to the industry, as well as a 2.5-km semicircular rail section surrounding the more than 40-hectare facility.

El cargo GMXT and Bartlett inaugurate agricultural terminal in Pesquería apareció primero en T21.

With an investment of $250 million, Bulkmatic de México laid the first stone of its new intermodal terminal in Pesquería, Nuevo León, a facility that seeks to strengthen the supply chain in the face of the impact of nearshoring .

From these facilities, the company will carry out rail transfers, specialized storage, and land transportation activities , aligned with the personalized needs of its customers throughout the country.

“We began construction of our Pesquería rail freight terminal in Nuevo León. This major logistics infrastructure project will further contribute to North American trade integration,” said Alejandro Doria, company president.

The new terminal will begin operations in the second quarter of 2026. It will be the largest of its kind in Mexico and will create more than 2,300 new direct and indirect jobs.

Samuel García, governor of Nuevo León, highlighted the arrival of Bulkmatic in the state, a state that continues to grow in the industrial sector with transnational companies.

“I’m very motivated and optimistic about Nuevo León’s future. I’m grateful to Bulkmatic because today’s message about the first stone is the kind of announcement we like. I say this with a sense of pride because not just any investment is coming in,” he said.

The new terminal in Pesquería will focus on handling bulk materials and will optimize the supply chains of strategic industries such as food, plastics, chemicals, and energy.

“It’s when they tell you Volvo is coming, they’re going to build the largest bus factory in the world, and Lego, and others. Well, today the largest cargo logistics terminal in Mexico is coming. Welcome to Nuevo León. We’re proud to welcome you. This land is fertile; every dollar you invest is multiplied,” the governor added.

For his part, Emmanuel Loo, head of the state Ministry of Economy, noted that “with the arrival of companies like Bulkmatic, Nuevo León is consolidating its position as a logistics hub in Mexico, which is why we are proud to have supported them since the beginning of their operations in the state.”

With this announcement, Bulkmatic has invested $387 million in the state:$12 million in the García terminal and $125 million in the two Salinas Victoria terminals.

“The goal of increasing the fleet is to meet the demand of our clients, which is why we must have a renewed and modern fleet that can meet the service standards of each of them,” said Mario Marroquín Cavazos, general manager of MM Carga.

With this addition of units, MM Carga reaches more than 200 tractor-trailers and under the platform movement configuration  seeks to serve various industries such as manufacturing, automotive, import/export, both in loose cargo and containerized cargo.

“To serve our markets, we have terminals in the ports of Altamira and Manzanillo, as well as yards in Pesquería, Nuevo León, and in the Bajío region, where the motor fleet and towing infrastructure is designed to strengthen our presence in these regions, always with quality and confidence,” said Marcela Marroquín, administrative director of MM Carga.

El cargo MM Carga increases fleet to continue accelerating in the market apareció primero en T21.

To strengthen the supply chain and to address the impact of the relocation of production lines (nearshoring) , Bulkmatic de México will build a new terminal in Pesquería, Nuevo León , which is part of the more than 600 million dollars that the company has earmarked to invest in the next 10 years.

Camilo Gómez, the company’s commercial manager, said that the aim is for “the country to go in the right direction, on the right path,” hence the investment in infrastructure.

“It is an ambitious project. We want to manage what we already have, what we are strong at, but also expand our capacity to other products such as steel, paper, wood, which are commodities that we are not managing and that we see will grow exponentially with nearshoring,” he said.

The new intermodal terminal will be located on a 100-hectare site on the Cadereyta-Jimenez highway, kilometer 14, in Pesqueria, the area with the greatest industrial growth in the state. It will also be close to the airport and the KIA and Ternium plants .

Camilo Gómez said that this new infrastructure will be able to receive two unit trains of different commodities , although the focus will be on grains, and it will also store 1,300 railroad cars.

“Our largest terminal is in Tula, Hidalgo, with 380 cars, in Salinas Victoria with 230 cars, and one of the largest terminals in the Valley of Mexico has 600 or 700 cars and if I compare it with the main railway access which is in the Laredo part and which is owned by CPKC which has more than four thousand cars, which is the Patio de Sánchez, we are talking about double, the largest terminal in Mexico that has an intermodal terminal and 25% of the most important railway access in the country,” he explained.

Among other things, it will have silos for grains and minerals, tanks for petrochemicals, storage warehouses (hazardous chemicals, plastic resins), and about 23 hectares will be used for cars, steel, or other products.

Likewise, they will be connected by the CPKC de México and Ferromex tracks , “which provides competitiveness for all customers who handle their products.”

He mentioned that 10% of the 130 million tons exported by rail, that is, nearly three million tons, would be the growth that the company would be registering through new facilities.

“We are convinced that this will be a great opportunity and a major development hub for the northeastern part, which is a very important area for investments,” he said.

He said that they currently have 14 terminals nationwide , handling various products and raw materials in bulk, with an annual movement of about 45 thousand railroad cars, which translates into four million tons.
