MÉRIDA, YUC.- This Tuesday the ninth edition of the Expo Latam Congress Smart City began in this city in southeastern Mexico, with the aim of generating innovative solutions to current urban challenges.

The event seeks digital transformation and smart cities to face urban challenges and has established itself as the most important in Latin America focused on urban and territorial transformation.

Among the topics covered, the connected society, digital transformation, smart destinations, climate change and sustainable territories, urban spaces and more stand out.

Expo Latam Congress Smart City

In that sense, Eduardo Córdova, director of Mobility ADO , presented the mobility innovations that the company is implementing.

“We are at the Expo Latam Congress Smart City forum, a unique event in Latin America. We are at the main stand presenting our 100% electric bus, one of the five electric routes that we have operated since the end of last year,” mentioned Córdova.

Expo Latam Congress Smart City

Córdova highlighted that the electric bus is environmentally friendly and incorporates the latest technology for passenger comfort. Additionally, he presented the BusLab , an innovative solution developed in Europe and now implemented in Mexico.

“BusLab includes applications that improve the user experience. One of them allows passengers to evaluate the quality of the service on board using a tablet, and another facilitates the recovery of lost objects through a QR system and a digital platform,” explained the director of Mobility ADO .

For his part, Rafael Hernández, director of the Yucatán Transportation Agency , commented that BusLab’s technological capabilities include an advanced passenger counting system that distinguishes between men, women and children through cameras installed on buses.

Expo Latam Congress Smart City

This technology optimizes the operation of public transport and also contributes to safety by monitoring driver behavior and travel conditions in real time.

“We have a system that allows us to know exactly how many people are on board, their distribution and behavior, which improves the planning and safety of our services,” commented Rafael Hernández.

The event was attended by Manuel Redondo Peralta, president of Pronus , Ricard Zapatero, CEO of Fira Barcelona and organizations promoting the smart city , as well as the mayor of Mérida, Alejandro Ruz Castro.

Redondo highlighted the importance of the Expo Latam Congress Smart City for the region. “This event brings together experts, citizens and representatives of the public sector, the participation of more than 300 speakers, 300 cities and 100 mayors make the event a crucial meeting point for the discussion of sustainable urban strategies,” he highlighted.

Redondo also emphasized the need to commit to green energy , climate change, intelligent territorial planning and digital transformation.

“Latam Congress has become the fundamental space for the urban development of our region. This event is a platform to promote dialogue and publicize strategies that allow us to have a vision committed to green energy, intelligent territorial planning and the use of artificial intelligence for the benefit of our cities,” added Redondo.

Likewise, Alejandro Ruz Castro, municipal president of Mérida, highlighted that the city has hosted the Expo Latam Congress Smart City for five consecutive editions , allowing significant advances in urban management.

“Mérida has progressed in various areas thanks to technology and innovation. This event is crucial to share experiences and strategies that promote the sustainable development of our cities,” said Ruz Castro.

The mayor commented that Mérida is not the same as it was 10 years ago, since it has changed and progressed in various areas due to the adoption of information and communication technologies.

During the event, topics such as climate change, sustainable territories, digital transformation and inclusive cities were also addressed.
