Suburban Railways and authorities from the State of Mexico are conducting a study to launch new feeder routes that would increase capacity for this transport, which runs from Buenavista, in Mexico City, to Cuautitlán, State of Mexico, which would begin at the end of this year or early 2026 .

Max Noria, the company’s director of Marketing and Risk Management, explained that they currently have a capacity of around 160,000 users per day .

“If we don’t have feeder routes, that’s the factor that will most influence whether demand moves or not. We’ve been working since last year with the Secretary of Mobility of the State of Mexico, Daniel Sibaja, and the Undersecretary, Ricardo Delgado, to expand new routes. We just finished a meeting, in which an inventory was taken of all the routes that operate and serve the Suburbano stations, and they believe that an improvement could be achieved by the end of this year or early next year,” he explained in an interview.

He explained that they currently have 145 feeder routes, but before the COVID-19 pandemic there were 179 routes , so they are looking to recover them, since with that number they registered between 200,000 and 205,000 daily users.

“We never had a sufficient feeder network; we were always below the limit. Now what we need to do is recover, ensuring that the routes are not only implemented, but also planned and integrated, ensuring that they meet schedules, frequencies, and service quality, because sometimes that discourages service,” he explained.

He reiterated that through a joint study with the aforementioned authorities, they are seeking to establish the necessary and efficient feeder routes.

Noria indicated that the authorities have been in contact with transporters and that progress has been made. “We are already looking at how to improve the routes, and we hope to have some concrete results by the end of this year.”

On another topic, Max Noria commented on the service impacts caused by the construction and testing being carried out on the branch line to Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) .

“They’re already finishing, but we depend on what the federal government tells us, because they’re leading the construction and they’re the ones ordering the working windows from us. We’re evaluating them, but they’re almost finished,” he emphasized.
