NUEVO VALLARTA, NAY.- Logistics experience and innovation, as well as the drive for intermodal transportation, were once again recognized with the awarding of the Silver Container during the XXVI Intermodal Congress 2025 , organized by the Mexican Intermodal Transportation Association (AMTI) .

In this edition, the Lifetime Achievement Award , a tribute to those who have left a lasting mark with their leadership and which celebrates not only a professional career but a lifetime of contributions to the growth of the sector, was presented to Javier Sánchez Terminel , currently Vice President of Mexico at STG Logistics .

Luis Hernandez, vice president of Intermodal for Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) , a subsidiary of Grupo Mexico Transportes (GMXT) , which was in charge of revealing the winner, said that since his beginnings at Maersk in Mexico, Javier has been a driving force behind intermodalism.

After his time at the shipping company, and together with a not-so-young group of entrepreneurs, he began a seemingly impossible task: getting the Ferromex intermodal terminals up and running on the Mexican railroad that had recently been concessioned to private enterprise.

He indicated that he has designed many processes that are still in use today in the operation of the country’s inland terminals, “although from his current position he criticizes them and often even forgets them. Today, he operates from the customer’s perspective, always seeking continuous improvement in service marketing and chasing us all to get things right.”

“It’s been a very important and beautiful part of my career. I’ve also had many setbacks. I’ve had many friends in the industry who have helped me get back on my feet. It’s been a long road, but I’ve been very happy in this career,” said Javier Sánchez.

Innovation

Likewise, the Silver Container for Innovation , a recognition that highlights the ideas, projects and solutions that are transforming the way cargo is moved in Mexico, went to Canadian National (CN) for its Falcon Premium service , which also includes Union Pacific and Grupo México Transportes, where it offers integrated transportation in the three North American countries .

With 100% rail operations and 53-foot containers, it offers a seamless service up to 24 hours faster than other routes. From Silao to Chicago in 96 hours, to Canada in 144. Lower costs, more capacity, and an emissions reduction of more than 75 percent.

“This award demonstrates what teamwork can do. This is an achievement of three railroads with three different cultures, acting as one. Spanning three countries—Mexico, the United States, and Canada—it definitely demonstrates what we can do as a team, with one goal in mind: to provide customers with a more efficient alternative at a fair cost. stated that its Falcon and Eagle Premium intermodal services have become an efficient transportation solution between Mexico, the United States and Canada, and in the face of nearshoring , a solution that offers capacity and competitiveness for the movement of goods.

“An efficient transportation solution that offers them capacity, that has consistency in service and that of course helps them have a robust supply chain to meet their needs, approach to the North American market, that is what we are going to continue pushing in Union Pacific, that is what our customers will continue to see and can continue to expect from us,” said Humberto Vargas, vice president of the railway company in Mexico.

He stated that these services were well received in the market and are meeting their objectives of being a competitive alternative for exporting and importing companies that are already in Mexico and those that are beginning to relocate to the country.

These routes have daily operations between Mexico, the United States and Canada. “We maintain our commitment to the strength we have in Mexico, the operational experience, we managed to reduce it by 24 hours last year and this keeps us as the most competitive option in the market, they are doing quite well,” he said.

He explained that various loads are moved through the Falcon and the Eagle Premium , including auto parts, white goods, consumer products of all kinds “which is where we have seen the expansion of the market”, components for different industries, among others.

“There are different products that have been added, we have grown a lot. Of course, in the shoal area we have seen a lot of interest in different industries. It is a very broad service because practically in our intermodal product any product that moves by road can upload,” he said.

Eagle Premium offers seamless exchange between Mexico, Chicago, the West Coast and points east of the United States, including Detroit, Michigan and Louisville, Kentucky.

Falcon Premium was developed in conjunction with Canadian National (CN) and Grupo México Transportes (GMXT) , serving all points within Canada and Detroit, Michigan.

Both the Eagle and Falcon Premium take advantage of UP’s route between Texas and Chicago, these services also provide customers with an environmentally responsible alternative.

“For Union Pacific, Mexico is very important, having the presence and experience, of course we are going to continue pushing to grow and develop our products, both the current ones that can serve Mexican companies that export to the United States market, to companies Mexican companies that have imports from the United States and global companies that are relocating to Mexico to have an efficient transportation solution,” he reiterated.
