Querétaro continues to attract manufacturing investments . Koblenz announced an investment of over 1.5 billion pesos (MXN) to strengthen its production capabilities in the state through new facilities in the Bernardo Quintana Industrial Park , a project that includes more than 100,000 additional square meters of industrial infrastructure, the company reported in a statement.

The company —responsible for designing, manufacturing and marketing household and industrial products— indicated that the resources will be allocated over the next three years as part of a strategy to expand and modernize its operations in Mexico , to increase its manufacturing capacity and broaden its presence in white goods categories.

According to the firm, the new facilities will practically double its current production footprint and will be focused on strengthening infrastructure, technological integration and operational efficiency of its processes.

In addition to the growth in installed capacity, the project seeks to consolidate Koblenz’s presence in segments such as refrigeration and automatic washing machines through the incorporation of new technological platforms, engineering and advanced manufacturing.

“For decades, Koblenz has built a relationship of trust with millions of Mexican consumers. Today we begin a new stage with a modern, ambitious vision focused on the future,” said Luis Dorador, CEO of Koblenz.

The company explained that the expansion is part of a transformation and modernization process aimed at strengthening its technological and manufacturing capabilities , as well as generating new opportunities for regional and international growth.

Regarding the decision to establish this project in Querétaro , Luis Dorador highlighted that the state was selected for its infrastructure, availability of technical talent, and strategic connectivity.

“Querétaro was selected for its relevance as one of the most important industrial ecosystems in the country, as well as its infrastructure, technical talent, and strategic connectivity. We deeply believe in Mexico’s industrial potential and in Koblenz’s ability to compete and grow in this new phase,” he stated.

With this investment, the company seeks to strengthen its manufacturing platform in Mexico to respond to current and future market needs.

What began in 2005 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, as a company focused on land transportation between Mexico and the United States, is today a global organization with more than 270 employees and a presence in strategic markets such as Europe, Asia and Latin America.

At The Logistics World Summit & Expo , in the conference How to build a company that crosses borders: a global expansion , Eduardo Haros, founder and CEO of Racing Cargo , shared the lessons, challenges and decisions behind the international growth of the company, which today operates on several continents.

Haros recalled that the first few years were marked by survival, a stage that most startups face.

“For the first five years, all you want is to survive. More than 90% of companies fail to do so,” he stated.

During its first decade, Racing Cargo focused on specializing in ground transportation within the framework of the then North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which allowed it to build a solid reputation in that segment. Subsequently, the company diversified its offerings to include maritime and air freight services, as well as comprehensive logistics solutions .

International expansion came after a decade of operation, driven not only by the pursuit of growth but also by a differentiating strategy. Instead of replicating the traditional path to the United States, the company opted to open its first office in Europe, specifically in Germany in 2016.

“I always looked for ways to make my company stand out. Why do the same thing as everyone else?” Haros explained.

The CEO stressed that global expansion is more complex today due to the geopolitical context.

In that regard, he emphasized the importance of assessing risks beyond business potential, considering regulatory, financial and operational factors, as well as preventing a new operation from affecting the rest of the organization.

The company has maintained a cautious approach, supported by more robust internal structures, such as legal, financial and data analysis areas, which today support decision-making.

The cultural factor, key to international success

One of the most important elements in Racing Cargo’s expansion has been cultural adaptation. Haros emphasized that many companies fail in their internationalization efforts because they ignore this aspect.

“Beyond opening an office or having bank accounts, the real challenge is understanding people,” he said.

From respecting local traditions to adapting work practices, the company has committed to genuine cultural integration in every country where it operates. This approach, it said, has allowed it to accelerate the establishment of new offices and strengthen relationships with local teams .

On a personal level, Haros shared that the company’s growth has been the result of discipline and constant reinvestment. During the early years, he chose to limit personal expenses to strengthen the business.

He also stressed the importance of separating personal finances from business finances and making decisions based on what is best for the company.

“What’s good for the company isn’t necessarily best for the individual. But if the company grows, you grow with it,” he pointed out.

After more than two decades, Haros considered that Racing Cargo has only just finished building the foundations of a global company.

“It’s not a sudden success. It’s 20 years of consistency, discipline, and small actions,” he said.

He stressed that internationalization requires not only strategy and resources, but also patience, resilience, and respect for the process.

Leopoldo Torres , CEO of Matrix Fitness Mexico, explained in an interview that the choice of Querétaro is due to several factors.

“The square meter is cheaper than in Mexico City, and the overcrowding in the capital made operations difficult.
This is because the north of the country is a key region for the brand, as the influence of the U.S. market has driven a stronger fitness culture in cities like Monterrey, Tijuana, and Chihuahua.

Matrix Fitness’s logistics have been transformed to respond more quickly to market needs.

Thanks to this new distribution center, which pays into the company’s property in Mexico City, delivery times have been reduced from one week to just two days in urgent cases , representing a key competitive advantage.

Additionally, the location within an industrial park allows for safer and more efficient handling of shipments.

Challenges? Many! Do you want to overcome them? More. Transportes Kugar del Papaloapan has projected a 30 to 40% growth in its vehicle fleet for the next five years and diversification into markets such as beer, containerized and specialized cargo.

In an interview with T21, Alfonso Tuccella, CEO, and José Roberto García Zavala, Commercial Director of the company, talked about some of the challenges they have faced and their future goals . Kugar (number 42 in the Top 100 of Autotransporte® ) also has a total fleet of 1,444 units.

“Obviously we want to explore all the new technologies that the market has. We have recently tested gas cars and also electric cars,” said García Zavala.

Both highlighted the company’s efforts in training operators , through its internal school and the use of advanced simulators, given the shortage of professional drivers in the sector.

However, they acknowledged that high turnover, which reaches 40%, makes it difficult to meet demand.

In terms of sustainability, Tuccella highlighted the installation of solar panels , waste recycling and certification as a clean industry, as well as the expansion of its infrastructure.

“We have invested a lot more in the northern part of the country. We are expanding towards the north and of course there are also talks of entering the United States market,” said Tuccella.

Challenges that remain in the sector

Insecurity in transportation and the critical conditions of road infrastructure in the center and southeast of the country marked the main challenges for Kugar in 2024. According to Alfonso Tuccella, the central and southeastern areas of the country continue to have very high rates of robberies .

“We have lost units and had to implement an internal convoy program, sending five or six trucks together and restricting operating hours. This impacts productivity,” he explained.

In addition, José Roberto García highlighted the lack of maintenance on key routes . “We are seeing that investment in repairing the road network has been minimal or non-existent in 2024. It has hit us very hard,” García commented.

Another challenge they faced in 2024 and that still persists is the lack of spare parts and inflation in truck and maintenance costs.

“The price of a new tractor-trailer has doubled in three years, and the time to obtain spare parts has been extended to three weeks, which halts operations,” said Tuccella.

Despite the difficulties, however, Tuccella stressed that its personalized service is one of the company’s strengths.

“We make tailor-made suits, it is not really a general service, it is a very precise service tailored to what they are looking for. We have world-class clients, where the demands are very high,” said Tuccella.

Finally, Kugar representatives agreed that the company will always be committed to innovation, sustainability and expansion to consolidate its position as a benchmark in the logistics sector.

“The new terminal will expand the airport’s reach with state-of-the-art facilities that align with our world-class customer experience and operation, while supporting the historic increase in air travel to and from the North Texas region,” said Sean Donohue, DFW CEO.

He explained that this new facility will have a 400,000-square-foot boarding corridor and also includes an expansion of Terminal E, which will add more than 9,290 square meters of new security, documentation and baggage claim facilities.

Passengers using Terminal F will check in at Terminal E and connect between the two facilities via a quick terminal-to-terminal transfer via the airport’s Skylink rail system.

“Terminal F plays a key role in preparing for the historic growth ahead for both DFW Airport and the North Texas community. This new terminal will enable us to continue to discover new ways to care for our customers, inspire the future of travel, feed our community with more jobs and create opportunities for business in our region,” said DeMetris Sampson, Chairman of the DFW Airport Board of Directors.

The company also seeks to consolidate its presence in cities and states such as Mexico City, Toluca, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Tepatitlán, Puebla, Querétaro, Chihuahua, Aguascalientes and Cabo San Lucas .

“Our ability to assess markets and position ourselves quickly has allowed us to work with large clients. We want to continue strengthening these alliances and expand our operations in new strategic regions,” Guerrero said.

Proprietary technology is also an essential pillar for Karri, allowing it to integrate with client systems and offer advanced routing and tracking solutions.

In terms of sustainability, the company plans to incorporate electric fleets in Mexico, replicating the model implemented in Chile, where it already operates with renewable energy.

“Although we know that Mexico’s geography poses challenges for electric fleets, we are evaluating the best way to implement these technologies here.
Karri is looking to consolidate its position in Mexican logistics, supporting its clients in the last mile and exploring new business models.

“Our goal is to grow together with our clients, adapting to their needs and the market. We are projecting a 20% increase in our operations for the first half of 2025, which will allow us to continue strengthening our presence in Mexico,” Guerrero said.

Promologistics celebrated its 20th anniversary by highlighting that over the past two decades the company has grown from a small family business to a technology and logistics organisation with international reach, with a presence in several key markets.

The 4PL began operations with a warehouse of just 400 square meters, responding to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that required logistics solutions to compete in an increasingly demanding market.

“We turned every challenge into an opportunity, trusting that adversity was not a limit, but rather a possibility to grow,” said Marcos Sulkin, president of Promologistics.

Over time, Promologistics has overcome challenges such as long payment terms and the pandemic crisis, always maintaining a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.

Since its inception, the company has integrated technology as a key element to offer agile and efficient solutions.

“We are a technology company that does logistics, because without technology we could not get to where we are today,” said Felipe Ordóñez, CEO, in an interview with T21.

He added that thanks to advanced connectivity platforms, the company has managed to offer a personalized experience to each customer , managing complex inventories and increasingly tight delivery times.

He also explained that technology allows Promologistics to manage a vast number of SKUs and maintain an efficient flow of information between customers and partners.

This technological integration has been fundamental for the optimization of inventories and the reduction of costs for its clients, especially in the growing e-commerce sector , where delivery times have become critical.

Along these lines, as part of its growth strategy, Promologistics will double its operational capacity in 2025 with the opening of a third distribution center (cedis).

“We are building the third cedis to be able to grow with our clients and the market,” said Ordóñez.

This new facility will enable the company to meet growing demand and maintain its standard of operational excellence.

In addition, the company opened its first office in Spain, with the aim of serving as a bridge for European companies seeking to establish themselves in Mexico, said Felipe Ordóñez.

“The pandemic and trade tensions between the United States and China have boosted interest in Mexico, and we want to be the strategic partner for those companies looking to enter the Mexican market,” he added.

On the other hand, Promologistics has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability , focusing on reducing CO2 emissions and minimizing the environmental impact of its packaging.

In this regard, the general director pointed out that they are working with their transport partners to improve emissions throughout the logistics chain.

Part of this strategy also includes optimizing reverse logistics processes and reusing materials , reducing waste generated by logistics operations.

Growth projection

Felipe Ordóñez explained in an interview that the main challenge for Promologistics in the coming years will be to continue its rapid growth without losing its closeness to its customers.

“Our challenge is to grow fivefold in the next three years, but the most important thing is to ensure that we do not lose the quality and closeness to our customers, which has been key to our trajectory,” he said.

The manager also did not rule out opening a fourth winery, in response to demand, towards the end of next year.

The dynamism of the industry in Mexico, especially in the north of the country, has allowed for greater demand in different sectors to meet supply and logistics services , which in turn has forced companies to expand to meet the needs of their customers.

In the case of the raw materials trading company Koprimo , as a result of the pandemic, the demand for inputs grew considerably, which brought with it significant logistical challenges.

In this regard, Cyntia Mendoza, Supply Chain Manager at Koprimo, highlighted in an interview that the chemical industry represents a fundamental link for many industries, since it plays an important role in the production of, for example, different products in the glass, ceramic, textile, and automotive industries, among others.

For this reason, Koprimo has followed an expansion plan that seeks to satisfy the needs of its clients, both in terms of product and logistics service for these raw materials, which is why it expanded its operation in Monterrey, Nuevo León.

“This versatility that we have adopted and adapted to the needs of our clients has opened up the market for us to other clients and industries. With nearshoring, the industry in Nuevo León has seen a significant upturn and they are prepared for this opportunity in Mexico. We believe that we can be an option to provide this investment,” Mendoza explained.

Likewise, in November 2023, Koprimo moved its operations from Tacuba, in Mexico City, to Toluca, State of Mexico , an infrastructure that has 40 thousand square meters (m2) and 1.6 kilometers of railway track.

The new facility in Monterrey now has 12,000 m2, of which 7,500 m2 are for storage, and also has railroad tracks.

The goal, according to Mendoza, is to grow the Koprimo territory, especially because they represent companies from other countries in Mexico, making use of their sales force, infrastructure and clients.

On the other hand, Koprimo seeks to streamline its operations , seeking specialized labor to provide follow-up and immediate response to its services, as well as providing alternatives.

With this, the company has a presence in Monterrey, Toluca, Guadalajara and Mexicali.
