PACHUCA, HGO.- Attentive to regulatory changes in Mexico regarding polluting emissions and with the vision of contributing to the decarbonization of cargo transportation, ELAM-FAW is preparing its move towards more environmentally friendly engines.

As part of the celebration of FAW’s 71 years worldwide and after almost five years in Mexico, ELAM-FAW launched two compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles equipped with Weichai engines that offer a maximum range of 1,200 kilometers.

“This is a great step in a country where the demands of the sector are increasingly complex,” explained Ernesto del Blanco, general director of ELAM FAW.

At the same time, it presented the new 550D ATM tractor truck with a diesel engine and automated box, which provides greater versatility in handling and also includes advanced driver assistance systems.

The manager expressed that in the country the cargo truck sector is crucial for the economy. “Currently it is estimated that this has a value of more than 15 billion dollars and continues to expand; in 2023 alone, more than 35 thousand units of heavy trucks will be sold. This reflects the importance of road infrastructure and logistics in Mexico where more than 70% of goods are transported by road,” detailed Ernesto del Blanco.

In this context and to contribute to the cargo transport sector, ELAM-FAW is working on the incorporation of vehicles with diesel engines that comply with the EURO VI emissions regulations , in compliance with NOM-044-SEMARNAT-2017, which establishes the maximum permissible emission limits of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, non-methane hydrocarbons, non-methane hydrocarbons plus nitrogen oxides, particles and ammonia from vehicles with diesel engines, which will come into force as of January 1, 2025.

Accompanying this new range of vehicles, FAW-ELAM is preparing for the transition towards electromobility, which will begin with the launch of a range of vehicles dedicated to the last mile, which will be assembled in the new plant that the group will install in Colima.

“We are developing mobility solutions that not only comply with the strictest environmental regulations, but also set standards for efficiency and performance. At FAW we believe that the future of transportation is electric and autonomous and we are investing in technologies that will take us to this point,” said the manager.
