The physical volume of production in the Mexican manufacturing industry registered a slight rebound of 0.1% on a monthly basis in June 2026, after having fallen 0.6% last May, according to the results of the Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry (EMIM), prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

Conversely, on an annual basis, the country’s manufacturing activity showed a decline of 2.4% , according to the agency’s figures.

The mixed results of the sector during the sixth month of the year extended to the  employed personnel , which increased 0.1% on a monthly basis, while in its annual measurement it fell 1.5 percent.

Meanwhile,  hours worked increased by  0.1% in June 2026 compared to May, while falling by 1.5% year-on-year.  Average real wages paid , including salaries, wages, and social benefits, rose by 0.6% month-on-month and increased by 2.2% year-on-year.

By subsector, the manufacture of computer, communication, measurement and other electronic equipment, components and accessories  was the industry that had the largest increase in physical production volume with 6.8% at an annual rate.

They were followed by the chemical industry  with a growth of 5.1%, and  the manufacture of machinery and equipment  with an annual advance of 3.8 percent.

Meanwhile, the industries that registered the largest year-on-year decline were  the manufacture of petroleum and coal products with a decrease of 5%, and  the manufacture of textile inputs and textile finishing with a decrease of 3.9%.

The Mexican manufacturing industry is going through a period of ups and downs, where there has been a realignment in the sectors that traditionally sustained the value of production and exports.

The June 2026 results of the EMIM, which reports on the situation of the main variables of production and employment in the manufacturing sector, recorded an increase in the production of computer equipment.

According to Grupo Financiero BASE , computer equipment exports grew 144.80% in 2025 compared to 2024, and it is one of the products that currently sustains the country’s shipments abroad.

The sector’s bad streak during the fifth month of the year extended to employed personnel , which decreased 0.1% on a monthly basis, while in its annual measurement it fell 2.1 percent.

By type of  contract , non-dependent staff (who are hired and provided by another company and for fees or commissions without a fixed salary or wage) increased by 0.3% and dependent staff of the company decreased by 0.1% monthly.

Meanwhile,  hours worked fell 0.5% in May 2026 compared to April, while the year-on-year rate showed a decrease of 1.6%. Average real wages  (salaries, wages, and social benefits) declined 0.9% month-on-month but increased 1.5% year-on-year.

By subsector, the manufacture of computer, communication, measurement and other electronic equipment, components and accessories was the industry that had the largest increase in physical production volume with 9.3% at an annual rate.

Basic metal industries followed with a growth of 2.3%, and the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products with an annual advance of 2.1 percent.

Conversely, the industries that registered the largest year-on-year decline were the manufacture of accessories, electrical appliances and electric power generation equipment with a decrease of 8.9%, and the manufacture of clothing with a decrease of 6.2%.

The Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry reflects a weakness in the Mexican manufacturing sector during May 2026, derived, among other factors, from external conflicts such as the one in the Middle East, which have increased the cost of some raw materials and essential components for this industry; in addition to internal reasons, such as a Mexican economy still showing signs of slowing down.

According to Inegi, “the EMIM reports on the current situation of the main variables of production and employment in the manufacturing sector.”

In the second month of this year, the physical volume of manufacturing production increased 3.4% compared to last January, according to the results of the Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry (EMIM).

On an annual basis, the country’s manufacturing activity also registered a positive result, with an  increase of 0.9% , according to the agency’s figures.

Despite the growth in the sector, the  number of people employed  in this activity decreased by 0.3% monthly in February 2026, while in its annual measurement it fell by 2.6 percent.

By type of  contract , non-dependent staff (who are hired and provided by another company and for fees or commissions without a fixed salary or wage) fell 0.3%, and dependent staff of the company decreased 0.2 percent.

Hours  worked  rose 0.2% compared to last January, although they decreased 3.2% year-on-year. Meanwhile,  average real wages  (salaries, wages, and social benefits) increased 0.1% monthly and advanced 2.8% annually.

By subsector, the manufacture of petroleum and coal products registered a 26.5% year-on-year increase in its physical production volume.

This was followed by  the production of computer, communication, measurement and other electronic equipment, components and accessories , with a growth of 6.6%, as well as  the manufacture of machinery and equipment , with an annual increase of 3.2%.

The Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry reports on the situation of the main variables of production and employment in the manufacturing sector, so its measurement is important, as it is one of the economic engines of the country.

However, 16 of the 21 subsectors that make it up fell in production volume in its annual measurement in February 2026, although it is a sector that has remained resilient to the new trade order .

The Mexican manufacturing industry had a mixed performance during the first month of 2026 in terms of production, according to the results of the Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry (EMIM), prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

In January 2026, the physical volume of manufacturing production registered a decline of 1.8% compared to December 2025 , while at an annual rate it reported an increase of 0.1 percent.

According to Inegi, the  number of people employed in the manufacturing industry increased 0.2% month-on-month in the first month of this year.

By type of  contract , non-dependent personnel – who are hired and provided by another company and for fees or commissions without a fixed salary or wage – increased by 2.4%, while dependent personnel of the company rose by 0.1% monthly.

On a monthly basis, in January, the hours worked by employed personnel fell by 0.4%, while average real wages paid , that is, salaries, wages and social benefits, fell by 0.3% compared to December 2025.

In its annual measurement, employment fell by 2.5 percent. Hours worked in the manufacturing industry decreased by 2.6 percent, and wages registered an annual increase of 3.3 percent.

By subsector, the  manufacture of petroleum and coal products saw the largest increase in production, with a 15% year-on-year growth rate. This was followed by the manufacture of computer, communication, measurement, and other electronic equipment, components, and accessories , with a 5.1% annual increase.

Conversely, one of the subsectors that registered one of the largest drops in the period was the manufacture of transport equipment , with a decline of 6.2% annually.

The Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry shows the current economic behavior of the main variables of the country’s manufacturing sector, which has remained resilient in the face of the current global context, framed by constant trade changes.

According to an analysis by  Grupo Financiero Ve por Más (BX+) , although Mexican industrial activity has shown imbalance, “it will possibly remain somewhat sluggish during the rest of the first quarter of 2026, although it will subsequently regain some traction.”

On an annual basis, the country’s manufacturing activity also registered a positive result, with an increase of 1.4% , according to the agency’s figures.

Despite the growth in the sector, the number of people employed in this activity decreased by 0.4% monthly in the penultimate month of 2025, while in its annual measurement it fell by 2.7 percent.

By type of  contract , non-dependent staff (who are hired and provided by another company and for fees or commissions without a fixed salary or wage) fell 0.5%, and dependent staff of the company decreased 0.4 percent.

Meanwhile,  hours worked fell by 0.6% compared  to last October , while  average real wages paid (salaries, wages and social benefits) fell by 0.6% month-on-month.

By subsector, the  manufacture of petroleum and coal products  was the industry that had the largest increase in physical production volume, with 46.2% year-on-year

This was followed by the production of computer, communication, measurement and other electronic equipment, components and accessories , with a growth of 7.2%, and  the manufacture of accessories, electrical appliances and electrical power generation equipment , with an annual increase of 1.4%.

According to Inegi, “the Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry reports on the situation of the main variables of production and employment in the manufacturing sector.”

This industry, one of the most important in the country, has remained resilient in the face of the new trade order, which has undergone constant changes due to the imposition of tariffs and the geopolitical reconfiguration in the world.

According to analysts, the manufacturing industry will continue to face challenges this year, while Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is expected to continue investing in this sector to strengthen it.

Although the Mexican economy faces a complex situation, marked by a slowdown, the country’s manufacturing industry remains resilient to global trade changes due to tariffs.

After three consecutive months of positive figures, the manufacturing industry showed a decline in July 2025 , marked by a monthly decline in three of the four indicators that comprise it.

In the seventh month of the year, the physical volume of  manufacturing production registered a 2.7% drop compared to last June and also decreased at an annual rate of 1.1%, according to the results of the  Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry (EMIM) , prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) .

According to the agency,  manufacturing employment  registered a 0.2% monthly decline in July 2025.

By type of  contract , non-dependent personnel (those hired and provided by another company and on fees or commissions without a fixed salary or wage) decreased by 2.1%, while personnel dependent on the company decreased by 0.2%.

Hours  worked  decreased by 0.2% compared to last June, while  average real wages paid —wages, salaries, and social benefits—recorded an increase of 0.7% compared to the previous month.

The report indicated that by subsector, the  manufacturing of petroleum and coal products  was the industry that saw the largest annual increase, at 8.2%. This was followed by  basic metal industries,  with an annual increase of 4.5%.

The global economic reconfiguration resulting from the imposition of tariffs has affected the Mexican manufacturing industry.

In the second quarter of 2025, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) captured by Mexico reached a new historical high, with 34.265 billion dollars (mdd) , which represented an increase of 10.2% compared to the same period in 2024, when it was 31.096 billion dollars.

Of the total FDI, 36% corresponded to the manufacturing sector , which reflects the importance of this industry for the country.

The Mexican manufacturing industry continues to advance, even in the face of external factors that have challenged its resilience, such as the ongoing global tariff war.

In June 2025, the physical volume of manufacturing production  registered an increase of 1.6% compared to last May and also showed an annual rate increase of 2.3%, according to the results of the  Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry (EMIM) , prepared by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) .

The increase in the EMIM index in the sixth month of the year represented the third consecutive month with positive figures for this indicator.

According to INEGI, the  number of employees in manufacturing decreased by 0.2% monthly in June 2025.

By type of contract , non-dependent personnel—those hired and provided by another company and on fees or commissions without a fixed salary or wage—decreased 1.6%, while personnel dependent on the company fell 0.2%.

The report indicated that  hours worked  remained stable compared to last May, while average real wages paid —that is, salaries, wages, and social benefits—recorded a 0.7% increase compared to the previous month.

By subsector, the  manufacturing of petroleum and coal products  saw the largest annual increase, up 23.7%. This was followed by  the manufacturing of machinery and equipment, with a 7.1% increase, and basic metal industries, with an annual increase of 5.7%.

Although the Mexican economy is experiencing a period of destabilization, it is beginning to show a slight recovery in certain sectors, such as the manufacturing industry, whose ups and downs will continue, according to analysts, for the remainder of the year, due to the uncertainty generated by the global economic reconfiguration caused by the imposition of tariffs.

In this regard, CIAL Dun & Bradstreet , a firm specializing in providing technological solutions and data, estimated that the Mexican economy is facing a complex situation, characterized by a stagnation in productive activity and a slowdown in employment.

According to the agency, the decline in this indicator permeated manufacturing jobs, which in the fourth month of the year decreased 0.4% in terms of personnel employed in its monthly measurement, thus linking three months of decline .

By type of contract, the  number of employees employed by the company decreased by 0.2%, while  the number of employees employed by a company  —those hired and provided by another company and on fees or commissions without a fixed salary or wage—decreased by 1.5% monthly.

Hours  worked grew by 0.5% monthly, while  average real wages paid —that is, salaries, wages, and social benefits—recorded a 1.5% increase compared to the previous month.

The largest decline was recorded in the textile input and textile finishing sector , with a 9.6% decrease, followed by tanning and finishing of leather and skin, and the manufacture of leather, skin and substitute materials products , with a 9.4% decrease, as well as the manufacture of clothing , with a 9.3% annual decrease.

The textile and footwear industries have been among the hardest hit by unfair marketing practices. Just last June 11, the Ministry of Economy (SE) announced that it had canceled and suspended Ensenada Textiles and Lancer Orthodontics from the Manufacturing, Maquiladora, and Export Services Industry (IMMEX) programs  after detecting irregularities in their export-import processes.

The federal agency indicated in a statement that these actions were carried out in response to the fight against illegal activity in the textile and footwear sectors.

It should be noted that on December 19, 2024, a decree was published imposing a  35% tariff  on 138 tariff items corresponding to manufactured textiles, including footwear products, as part of the measures to protect this industry.

The EMIM, which tracks the performance of the main variables associated with employment in the manufacturing sector, registered a decline last April, following the trend seen in March when it fell 2% monthly, and after having shown a rebound in February of 2.6% compared to January 2025.

According to the agency, the  number of employees  in the manufacturing industry decreased by 0.1% monthly in the third month of the year. By type of employment,  employees employed by the company also decreased by 0.1%, while non-employees  —those hired and provided by another company and employed on a fee or commission basis, meaning they do not have a fixed salary—decreased by 1.3%.

Hours  worked  showed a monthly decrease of 0.7%, while  average real wages paid , i.e., salaries, wages, and social benefits, also registered a decrease of 0.2% compared to the previous month.

By subsector, petroleum and coal products manufacturing saw the largest decline, down 10.7% year-on-year. This was followed by leather and fur tanning and finishing, and leather, fur, and substitute product manufacturing, with a 4.4% annual decline.

These figures come in the context of a  tariff war by the United States against several countries , which was put on hold for 90 days.

According to  CIAL Dun & Bradstreet , the Mexican economy is facing a complex situation, characterized by stagnant productive activity and a slowdown in employment.

The firm specializing in offering technological solutions and data considered that this stems from local factors such as the  elimination of autonomous bodies  and  reforms to the Judiciary , as well as external reasons such as the  uncertainty generated by the United States tariff policy .
