Daimler Truck México is moving toward zero-emission freight transport with the launch of the new 100% electric Freightliner eM2, a Class 7 truck that has a payload capacity of 6.4 tons and a range of 400 kilometers (km) . This unit arrives in Mexico accompanied by a comprehensive strategy that includes various stages for the consolidation of successful electric mobility projects.

To this end, the brand has an eConsulting program that advises customers on the technical feasibility of electrifying their fleets , as well as whether the operation, route, type of load and needs are compatible with electric vehicles.

Sebastián Pesado, manager of Electromobility, explained that the purpose of the division is to support transporters in the process of integrating electric units, from the moment the transition idea arises until the project is launched.

“As a brand, we do not talk about electric vehicles per se, these come with infrastructure, chargers and training. The first step is comprehensive knowledge of the customers’ routes, because the reality is that not all routes are electrifiable,” explained the Electromobility manager.

Pesado explained that the second step is to get to know the yard to know the installed electrical capacity to charge the units, the next step is the installation of the infrastructure, to later start with the training of the operators, technicians and all the people involved with the vehicle, especially to guarantee safety, to finally start with the operation of the vehicle.

The eM2 integrates a new electrical safety system that includes an Estop disconnection button, acoustic alert, gas detection sensor, high voltage cut-off point, side impact barrier, and battery management system (BMS).

Furthermore, the new electric unit is backed by the in-house financial institution , providing transporters not only with solutions for the implementation of the electric mobility ecosystem, but also with a flexible insurance scheme that adapts to the needs of the fleet; to date, Daimler has alliances with Quálitas and GNP Seguros.

The Detroit Assurance 5.0 safety suite, standard on all eM2 models, includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot assist and autonomous emergency braking, among others, providing safer driving and reducing the risk of traffic incidents.

At the same time, the automaker presented an update to the Freightliner M2 Plus Series that integrates the Cummins L9 and B6.7engines , which allow the execution of NOM-044 by complying with the EPA/10 GHG regulations. They also offer maintenance intervals of up to 80 thousand km (L9) and 48 thousand km (B6.7) and with ratings ranging from 260 HP to 380 HP in L9 and from 200 to 325 HP in B6.7, offering a solution that reduces downtime and operating costs for customers.

Freightliner M2 Plus Series trucks are equipped with Detroit Assurance 5.0, which together with Freightliner Link 3.0 contributes to reducing accidents in operation.
