According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) , the transport sector contributes around 14% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with land transport being the main emitter , followed by maritime and aviation, which contribute 2.2 percent.

Faced with this reality, Greenspace E-Mobility , an integrator of charging infrastructure and electromobility solutions , reached an agreement with Windrose Technology , a manufacturer of electric trucks, to offer its vehicles in both Mexico and the United States.

According to information shared by Greenspace, the vehicle they are distributing is the R700 model, with a range of 708 kilometers (440 miles) on a full charge .

The development proposed by Greenspace is focused on integrating corridors between Mexico and Texas , connecting Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, as well as the Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo-Puente Colombia route, covering the main transportation routes.

Within Texas, the focus of infrastructure development considers the Laredo-Dallas-Houston-Laredo corridor , this axis is critical for cross-border trade, where more than 40% of land exchange between Mexico and the United States passes through.

“The transition to cleaner transportation requires not only electric trucks, but also infrastructure, software, and a comprehensive vision. Today, we are committed to binational corridors that benefit Mexico and the United States,” emphasized Horacio De la Torre, General Manager of Greenspace E-Mobility USA.

As part of the Laredo Motor Carriers Association (LMCA) golf tournament , which will take place on September 11 and 12, Greenspace will take the opportunity to unveil the Windrose R700 .

Meanwhile, from September 12-19, Greenspace E-Mobility will conduct an exclusive tour of warehouses, yards, and carrier and customs broker facilities in Laredo, Texas, to showcase the truck’s capabilities and available infrastructure solutions .

In De la Torre’s view, Greenspace E-Mobility’s proposal is a comprehensive ecosystem offering, including ultra-fast charging stations (350 kW to 1 MW) with a pull-through design for tractor-trailers; a NET digital platform for control, energy management, and fleet optimization; and a 2025–2030 Roadmap: consolidating electric routes in Mexico and Texas as the first step toward a regional electric freight mobility system.

De la Torre highlighted the technical qualities of the Windrose R700 , a Class 8 electric tractor that has a consumption of only 0.97 kWh/km, ultra-fast charging with open standard MCS (1 MW), and a traditional cab designed for rapid acceptance by Mexican and American operators.

Additionally, it has various advanced safety features such as ADAS , including automatic braking, 360° cameras, lane assist, and others.

Among the benefits of operating this electric tractor-trailer are the reduction in emissions and costs, “in addition to a decrease in maintenance costs of up to 60% compared to diesel vehicles, as well as an improvement of between 25% and 35% in the TCO (total cost of operation) , as well as a drastic reduction in carbon dioxide (CO₂) and nitrogen oxide (NOx), aligned with ESG goals of large fleets,” De la Torre said.

Amazon Mexico and Grupo MARVA have reached an important milestone on their journey toward sustainability: the first half million kilometers traveled with a dedicated fleet of 100% electric heavy-duty trucks . This represents significant progress in the decarbonization of freight transportation in the country and consolidates Mexico as a leader in the electrification of heavy-duty transportation within Amazon’s global network.

This fleet, comprised of 30 electric units , is currently the largest operating fleet in the country . Its implementation is the result of a strategic collaboration between Amazon and Grupo MARVA , based on a shared vision of sustainability and social responsibility. Both companies have aligned their ESG (environmental, social, and governance) strategies to generate a long-term positive impact on both the environment and the communities where they operate.

A global commitment to sustainability

This effort is part of Amazon’s ambitious global strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across all its operations by 2040, a decade ahead of the goal set in the Paris Agreement . Through its Climate Pledge initiative , Amazon has invested in clean technologies, renewable energy, and sustainable logistics solutions around the world. The electrification of its transportation fleet is a key pillar of this strategy . Under the guise of a “national energy emergency ,” U.S. President Donald Trump is promoting the use of fossil fuels and, in contrast, aims to stop promoting clean energy.

Despite this shift in perspective, Bali Express’s sustainable vision for trucking remains unchanged, and it will continue to incorporate electric and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles as part of its decarbonization efforts starting in 2024.

“In 2024, we will begin incorporating the first electric tractor-trailer, followed by the CNG ones. The goal of this measure was to promote innovation, stay ahead of the market, and take action to combat environmental damage,” Juan Báez, CEO of Bali Express, told T21.

Báez notes that incentives granted for the purchase of sustainable units, such as electric or CNG (compressed natural gas), can have an impact of up to 60% on the price of the units, which motivates the incorporation of less polluting equipment.

At the same time, there are clients who are encouraging the integration of these types of units. “We have six electric trucks operating in the Port of Long Beach and Tijuana , while we operate between the two cities with 32 CNG tractor-trailers,” Juan Báez described the recently incorporated clean corridor that connects Tijuana, Baja California, to Long Beach, California.

With the support of the North American Development Bank (NADbank) , Bali Express continues to expand its fleet of electric and CNG trucks. “Our plan will see us have 31 electric trucks and 65 CNG trucks , strengthening our green corridor,” added Juan Báez.

Bali Express currently has a fleet of 407 tractor-trailers, and while there are no plans to expand it, the goal is to have all the new trucks powered by electric or CNG, particularly those operating in the United States. “By 2035, our goal is to have a 100% sustainable fleet,” Báez added.

The executive is aware that the change in strategy from the United States presidency could impact Bali Express’ goals, but he is aware that while it would not be in 2035, it could be moved to 2040 , but they do not rule out integrating the 100% sustainable fleet.

Part of this project is planned to soon launch a corridor from Tijuana to Texas , using only CNG tractor-trailers, in order to reduce emissions on this route.

In 2024, the Valley of Mexico experienced its highest-occurrence year due to ozone concentrations, with 14 during the entire cycle. In 2025, the first such event was recorded last February.

The United Nations Environment Programme reports that the transportation sector has contributed approximately 14% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with land transport being the largest emitter.

Understanding this reality, the project to incorporate electric tractor-trailers into the fleet serving Unilever began months ago , to supply one of its main clients.

The project saw the light of day when it became involved with Grupo Marva ( number 5 in the Top 100 of Autotransporte® ) which, together with its strategic partner, Deléctrica, incorporated the first fleet of electric tractor trucks that will serve Unilever to operate in the Valley of Mexico.

“Nationwide, we already have six charging facilities for electric tractor-trailers; the one closest to Unilever is the one we recently inaugurated,” said Lorena Martínez, general manager of Deléctrica, referring to the charging hub that features Huawei’s FusionCharge chargers with a capacity of up to 600 kW, allowing for the charging of 12 electric vehicles.

It is precisely at this facility, located within a range of just over five kilometers, that will be the charging point for the first five electric units that will serve Unilever at its distribution center.

Based on Unilever’s sustainability objectives, in Scope 1, which is direct emissions from fuel consumption, and Scope 2, which is emissions from purchased energy, the company aims to reduce greenhouse gases (GHG) by 100% by 2030, based on 2015 indicators.

Meanwhile, in Scope 3, which refers to indirect emissions from the value chain, the GHG reduction target is set at 30.3% by 2030 based on 2020 levels.

The launch ceremony for this first fleet of electric tractor-trailer trucks with 53-foot dry vans was led by Leonardo Rubinato, Unilever’s Global Vice President of Logistics, Juan Arriegue, Director of Logistics for Unilever Mexico, Juana López, Project Leader for Unilever Mexico, and Wilmer Yepez, Head of Purchasing for Logistics Mexico.

Miguel Ángel Martínez, CEO of Grupo Marva, explained to Unilever executives that Marva continues to expand its charging infrastructure to meet customer demands, thereby expanding its route options for electric trucks. In addition to the facilities in the State of Mexico, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Puebla, and Salamanca, the Morelos region will soon be added.
